Actually, I think gumdrops are better than foam for lessening perceived impact. Pompom heads may be as well, but I've no experience with them.

The issue with pompoms and gumdrops is that they are not available to as many people. If you have a properly ventilated area and the parts, make 'yo gumdrop heads. Felt is a more common material, especially in the US on account of Mcmaster.Actually, I think gumdrops are better than foam for lessening perceived impact.
