The octoshot is a great new modification, but one of the downsides to it is that its necessary to purchase not one but two guns.

To save on the price and to make use of parts in my ever growing parts bin I've developed a way to make an octoshot turret using the original turret and a firefly rotation mech.

To start you will need to strip down the turret and detach the rotation mech. You can junk this or set it aside for another project in the future.

Next you want to take your firefly turret and recover this pice off it.



After that you are going to need to cut down the back rotation mech attachment nub so it is flush with the back of the turret.

The rotation mech should now fit pretty well over whats left of the nub on the turret. But to keep it on you want to take a good sized bolt and slide it through the screw port from the old rotation mech screw port and through the Firefly turret. Then also make sure to line up the rotation mech with the holes and secure it all with a nut. The finished product should look like this.



The next step is to drill the four new barrels.

To do this you need to cut off the screw posts on the front of the turret. Then you use the screw divots on the back of the turret as pilot holes for the new barrel holes.



I used a hand drill so I cleaned up the edges with sandpaper.

The last step to do is to expand the area above the new four holes on the front of the turret and you just need to attach your barrel of choice and attach it to your gun.

the finished product should look like this.I added E-tape to help it stay stable within the shell.



Last note: be careful when drilling holes because if drilled a certain way the turret can crack and break.

This is a great way to make use of an old turret you have lying around. However for those of us without a firefly turret in our parts bin, it'd still be easier to sacrifice that crappy 8 dart blaster and make it useful, as parts for another better blaster. Also, how does it work? Is it priming and firing just like the 8 shot turret would? A finished pick would help too.

*edit Sorry Shane the original reply was suppose to go under Blue's comment. But seeing as I'm here anyway, I agree with andtheherois about the second Firefly turret. You lead your post by saying the down side of doing it my way was you had to purchase 2 blasters but if you didn't have a Firefly turret already, you'd have to purchase that one anyway. That's still 2 blasters. The Dart Blaster 8 I used is only $9.99. The cheapest I've been able to find the Firefly, where I live, is $27.99. For that price, you could buy both the TS and the Dart Blaster 8. You' d save an extra $20.

@Blue I'd just like to say, first of all, I think Hipponerf and I pretty much came up with the same concept at the same time completely independent of each other. He did however post his video first. But that being said, I found this yesterday browsing another forum in their mod section. It was done by alextwin007 way back in December, 2009! Looks like someone else beat us both to the punch. However, it looks like it's only a manual turret.

Just finished this a few minutes ago. It's a hand cannon with a firefly turret.

I only have FNG status for now so I have limited posts per day. If I don't reply right away it's because I have to wait 24 hours. I've been watching NH for months but haven't been able to post until now. It was driving me crazy!!!

Yes I did have multiple issues with the priming bar and I discovered that the Priming bar will skip extremely easily over the rotation mech with the amount of torque added because of the new spacing of the grooves. This can be fixed by ether adding Epoxy below the rotation bar like makeitgo did or to fabricate a metal one like Hipponerf did. I actually had problems with plastic breaking in the shell and I have a turret but no shell.

Yes I do relize that the Firefly is pricy and that not everyone has a firefly turret in there parts bin. This write-up is mainly for people who have an extra firefly turret in there parts bin or, like me, for people who could not find the second gun in any stores around them. I even could not find it at my Toys R Us (which has a HUGE gun selection).

And yes I originally based my mod off of Hipponerfs.

Pretty cool SlightlySane, nicely done. I like the use of the bolt. How was your priming bar before the trouble? When my brother did it, he had to make one entirely out of aluminum (and some JB weld) because he was tired of the old one breaking. My brother also added a bolt to hold the blaster together toward the front, that may help your priming bar issue.

My brother and I looked at Alextwin007's pictures for the inspiration to do it, however we couldn't get much information from him. My brother built his and used it in a couple wars in summer 2010. It's been holding strong since, especially with the aluminum plunger rod.

Regarding the cost of the firefly piece, you may be able to get one from another nerfer who used the turret off the firefly but kept the rotation piece.

Cool stuff, glad to see a write up for the firefly rotation mech method, and I didn't need to make one!

Thanks, the bolt method seemed like the best way to secure it and the skipping ring on the bottom fit in well. The problem I was having with the rotation mech was that the end of the bar with the tooth on it was bending down because of cheap plastic and it was skipping over the grooves in the rotation mech.

The reinforcement that Makeitgo did solved this problem by supporting it and the bar that you made didn't bend so it wouldn't skip.

I am unable to use my turret because the shell went under some cosmetic changes with my shoe. Ya I need to clean my room/workspace.
