After seeing the Clear vulcan spotted in the Product Awareness thread, I went to my nearest Target and picked one up.


Hasbro changed the mold a bit for this clear version.

1. There is no removable bright orange flash hider like on the original Vulcan.
2. There is no notch to accomodate the orange flash hider.
3. New non-removable (without tools) orange tip.
4. 2 inch shorter barrel (the long orange tube)
5. Dart belt tips have been cut in half. I assume to make it easier to remove darts.

If you look at the top of the standard vulcan; the orange flash hider has a "T" shaped raised section. There is a matching notch at the 12 o'clock position of the barrel tip. The Clear vulcan does not have that notch. So it cannot accommodate the flash hider without a little modification.




Here you can see the new clear vulcan vs the normal vulcan. See how there is a new orange tip? And I removed the orange flash hider from the standard vulcan





Here is the clear dart belt. notice how the tips have been cut in half.



Here is my vulcan collection. I just picked up the standard one off craigslist for $5!!!

This is pretty awsome. Now all Nerf has to doi mis make a clear longshot and longstrike.

I doubt Nerf will ever remake the Longshot, I believe that it was expensive for them to make, compared to the reverse plunger guns.

Nice. I'm really glad they made the belts clear, I think having an orange belt would look odd. Normally the clips that come with the clear series blasters are solid orange, so this is good.
Have you noticed any range or accuracy decrease with the half-barrel belt compared to a standard one?

They did the same thing with the fury fire. There is only about an inch of barrel in stock blasters, the rest is not tight on the foam. The cut is to make loading darts easier.

I think it isnt for loading. Pushing a dart into the belt is easy. But removing it is a PIA. I tried blowing from the rear end of the belt. No go. I have to fire them or use a skinny stick. Now I can just grab the tips and pull them out.

I havent tested them as Im out of D cells. But manual firing seems the same.

Well here is the problem. The molds for the longshot may be close to expiring. Steel tooling (the type of molds Hasbro would use) have a life span of about 10K+ It might be higher but not a whole lot. at most it might be in the 50k range.

Now with the onset of recolors: Blue, yellow, and Walmart Red that is pushing the molds a bit.

If there is any life left out of the longshot, I too would like to see the clear treatment. But I doubt it.

I think from a price point issue, its easier to sell a newer model in clear to a big corporation like Target.

I just hope target gets good sales out of the clear treatments and continues their exclusives.

Due to the way Hasbro works, new molds/models, dont get recolored right away. At least a year has to go by. Look at transformer toys. They get recolored all the time.

Vulcan, raider and deploy are some of the newest toys and those are about a year old.

The new barricade and stampede are too new. You dont want competition against your own product right from the beginning.
