So I just attempted to make the new 18-dart clip Stefan acceptable, but it didn't turn out so well. The new spring design that is used takes up a substantial amount of space inside the clip so it is impossible to use the traditional method of putting in two metal rods of 1/8" diameter and then cutting slits into the follower so it slides. The clip itself is also very difficult to open and has many places were the plastic appears to have been melted together instead of glued together and the only way I was able to open it was with a dremel. I also found out that the new spring is centered in the clip so the force is directed in the middle of the follower.

I'm not entirely sure what to do with this information but I pretty much ruined one of my stampede clips finding this out so I don't want someone else doing the same to try the old method making stefan compatible clips. If someone comes up with a working method to make these work with Stefans that'd be fantastic.

If you could take photos of the aftermath, that would still help. The clip may be ruined, but don't let it die in vain.

Yeah if I'm not mistaken the spring design is more similar to an actual magazine spring: a boxed coil in the shape of the inner dimensions. Versus the original 6-rounders that use a spring in a Z-shape.

Bob came up with a way to stefanize a clip by drilling a hole through the follower, inserting a wire running vertically the height of the clip up to but just below the barrel. This wire is secured to the base of the clip, and is set back from the end the required distance for the stefan to sit w/o giving it room to slide back and forth. he also added a guide tube to the underside of the follower, but I suspect a cocktail straw and some e-putty might do as well.

The above method is ingenious, and it's kind of frustrating that I wasn't able to think of it in the first place. I am almost 100% certain that this would work perfectly in the 18-dart stampede clips because of the box spring design. I'll attempt it as soon as I get a chance. A write up for the above would be wonderful, but I'm sure I'd be able to manage without one.
