Hell Before Halloween 4 Promo video.

Date: October 23rd 2010
Time: Arrive at 9:30am. Games start 10:00am - 6pm

Location: Wild wood park, Mississauga, Ontario Canada.
(Only a 1.5 hour drive from the border!)

Cost $10 (Goes towards park rental permit, supplies, etc)

DIRECTIONS:

The address is:
3430 Derry Road East

Canada

Get to the 401 ( Go whichever way you need to get to 427 North)
Take the 401 to 427 North.
Take the Derry road exit.
Turn left on Derry Rd/Rexdale blvd
First immediate left after Goreway. You will see a Grey building and a parking lot.
Drive straight through the parking lot all the way to the end.
You will see two roads. at the back corner of the parking lot.
Take the left one.
Take the one way road all the way there.
The one way road is very scenic enjoy these last moments before sacrificing your soul as you enter the parking lot.


BLASTER RESTRICTIONS:

All blasters are subject to range and power testing by the hosts. If any blaster is deemed unsafe to those on its receiving end, it will not be allowed.

Singled Titans will be not be allowed at this war. It is officially banned.
Plugged BBBB's will also be banned.
Homemade air guns.
Swords and other types of Melee.
All shields except for the Manta.

ROUND SCHEDULE:
To be announced.


PARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITIES.

-Arrive at 9:30am.

-Pack a lunch, You will need your energy.

- Bring enough water to drink. You will be running, jogging, sprinting, dodging, ducking and shooting all day.

-Each player must bring a Primary and it is recommended each player also brings a sidearm.

-Each player must also bring a sufficient amount of darts. Minimum 150 per person.

-Eye protection is mandatory if under 18.

-Any player above 18 years of age, who decides not to wear eye protection does so at their own risk.

-Clean up ALL garbage and items you bring on the field - Flagging tape, lunch items, water bottles, etc., all of these must be thrown out properly. If you leave trash behind, do not expect to be invited next year. There are plenty of garbage cans all over.

-Follow Instructions from the Field Supervisors - Select individuals will be Field Supervisors at HBH 4. Each player is responsible for listening to and following the instructions of these adviser's; we cannot guarantee that the day will progress
smoothly otherwise.

STAGING AREA:


I personally think this is the best staging area I have ever been at.
There is a roof over your head and plenty of places to sit down.


COSTUMES:
We are going to experiment with it this year.


COSTUME RULES:
Costumes are Optional.
Must be a Horror/Scary costume. Absolutely no other kinds of costumes.
Do not wear something you are worried might get damaged or ruined at a Nerf war.


SCARY THEMED CLOTHING.
Also optional.
If you do not wish to wear a costume but still want to support the Halloween feel of the event. Wear a T shirt, long sleeve shirt or hoodie that has a real scary print on it.

Bonus points for vintage horror.


PRIZES:
Best scary costume.
Best scary print on a shirt.
and more.

Just make sure to have something along the lines of "Hell before Halloween 4" In the topic title. Everyone who plans to attend, has over a month of reading this to prepare.

Also if their are any American travelers coming or interested in coming. Pm me and we will see how we can aid in you getting here, lodging etc

If any new players wish to come out and make this war your first war. I promise you will not be disappointed. K-10 and I go over the rules very clearly before every round.
This allows for a smoother game play and more fun for everybody.

Count me in. I also have a question, I am coming from the Detroit, MI area, so I might be there an hour or so late (I live 4 hours away), would that be okay? I've been waiting for this war for a year, its going to be sweet!

The U3 is interested in the possibility of coming, since it's closer than New Jersey is. I'm not seeing restrictions, so, just for clarification, can we use our prototype 15/32" steel ball domed darts?

Also, how racy are our costumes allowed to be?

Well apparently up there they seem to have no ammo restrictions.

Ammo is pretty much whatever, from the time I've spent there. Slingshot, 2 bb's, whatever floats the boat. Obviously, don't use tacks or anything dumb, but otherwise it's free range.

Also, Ice, I think the rules about sexual harassment and man boobs still apply here. lol.

...Cutting people open? Wounding? Drawing blood? As long as the darts don't break skin we Canadians really don't give a flying fuck.

Well I'm kinda confused, because slingshot darts definitely "open" people up. So either your rules or flawed, or you're just dumb.

This is Ryan's special way of telling you that with modern nerf blasters (which you may or may not use in the land of Canadia), unpadded darts with slingshot (or similar) weights will break skin. Your nerf blasters may be less powerful than the ones that we typically use (which are, on average, slightly less powerful than a +bow, or about the same as an unplugged BBBB), or maybe you just never got hit in just the wrong way. But, they are capable of breaking skin, and it's absolutely mindblowing that people will go to a public park and use unpadded darts. The ad-hoc regulation of blasters was never sufficient to prevent safety problems, but it was close enough to give that illusion until powerful homemade / modded springers became common.

Personally, I don't like shooting people with unpadded ammo, because I will feel bad about ruining people, and feel worse about getting sued for an unlikely (but possible) serious injury. For that reason, I did a lot of work with stock ammo prior to adopting slugs for their compatibility with hopper clips.

At personal risk, I'm adding my two cents here.

From my experience up there last time, darts were never an issue. Sure, some guns used the slingshots perfectly (a few singled Big Blasts, and Doomsayer come to mind), but generally there wasn't anything too powerful. And even then you have to consider the foam being used. I know FA's darts were in wide use, and it's fairly wide compared to the CPVC-fitting darts I use and am used to. Heck, my (currently in repair) RFSG with very crappy single bb's and CPVC, with less springs, was shooting only a bit short of FA's gun, and I'm guessing the foam itself was the difference.

Plus it's not the most n00bish of groups we're talking about; generally everyone there knows what they're doing (Although shooting Dr. Science at close range with the Doomsayer just for the camera was hilarious), and even in situations like that, the worst I ever saw was the giant welt FA got when someone accidentally discharged into his knee. Even then, I don't remember that drawing blood.

Tl:dr - not all slingshot darts are the same, and sometimes people do actually know what they're doing.

I'm not worried about whether or not I will bring dangerous darts. I pick up darts from the ground in-game, and use them. I don't have time to examine the dart to determine if it is or is not a death dart while i'm under fire, nor do I want to tell a police officer that my blasters are just toys, despite the fact that they will wound people at close range with the ammo that's lying all over the field.

I saw some big blasts and +bows in that mix, which are definitely capable of breaking skin at close range. I think the rarity of close-range hits on bare skin give the illusion that these darts are safe. I'd be OK with a war with heavy, unpadded darts if everyone was wearing hardcore eye protection, and it took place on private property. But the current practice is just asking for trouble.

Fair enough; you certainly have more experience in this area than I do, so I think it's best I defer. False sense of security can certainly be a bad thing; seen too many chem classmates take acids/bases lightly and pour them onto something other than the intended target b/c they're too busy talking. Even in full gear, that's a bad thing.

I have a healthy mix of everything (slingshot, bb, slug)in my bag, so I'll just sort through stuff before rounds and try to use common sense.

Oh, chem goggles are a wonderful thing for Nerf wars.
