Ok so my longshot is taking me 3 to 2 shots to get it to leave the barrel. Heres a video of it. :P

http://s571.photobuc...rking3shots.flv

so what I did to the blaster is:
-rapid fire rifle spring added
-pen spring for catch and the normal LS catch spring
- singled...no duh
- i lost the o-ring that goes in the orange barrel so it now has the rapid fire rifle o-ring

thanks for the help. :D

The same thing will happen to my gun if my darts are to big for the barrel, did you consider that?

If it isn't dart friction then it's the seal. More power from stronger springs would help, but first fix the plunger seal.

Okay, if it takes 2-3 strokes to get the dart out, I'd also check the barrel length. There's no magic forumla - it depends on the barrel material, the difference in diameter between the barrel and the dart (as you said, Home Depot foam is a little wider than Ace foam.) Different barrels have different amounts of friction, which could affect your performance.

(Apologies the barrel material and length is in the .FLV, but PhotoBucket is being a pain. Clicking on the link gives only a "The action that you were trying to perform has failed.")

Something I noticed is that some FBR seems to be almost smoothed on the surface. This could be from the heating (tumbling in the dryer or using the hair dryer). I'm not sure - I'm very new to making my own stefans, so I've not had a chance to see what happens to the foam under prolonged heat exposure. (I'm sure it's not going to be pretty, but it's worth trying.) The reason for mentioning this is because, for the sample stefans where the surface is 'sealed', it felt smoother, which could affect the whole coefficient of friction thing.

If you have the blaster open, work the piston once or twice - do you need to lube it? Plug the breech temporarily (with a finger, say) and work the piston. Can you? How much resistance? Ideally, with a plugged breech, you shouldn't be able to advance the piston. If you do the piston seal needs work.

This being a Longshot, the bolt head could be another source of leakage. If you can advance the piston while the breech is plugged, which way is the air escaping? Maybe hold it underwater, if you can't feel it blow against bare skin. If it's advancing around the breech, then the bolt head isn't sealing against the front of the piston.

What kind of barrel did you single it with? It might be from where you put the barrel on, which could be causing the leakage.

I used a cpvc barrel and I still have the Longshot o-ring, and added a BBB spring, and glued up the little hole on the side of the tube where the barrel goes. As far as I know, I'm not having any air leakage.

Can you post some pictures? How did you get your barrel onto yours? With mine, I had to cut off the rest of the old orange barrel so I could attach the cpvc, and I also had to dremel part of the inside of the barrel so I could get it onto the black part of the plunger tube, and then I hot glue every part of it, then sanded the glue down later so it could get into the plunger tube without stopping/getting stuck.

Are you still using the original black piece that touches the head of the plunger? If so, did you keep the o-ring?

You might not be receiving full plunger movement, and therefore not letting that o-ring seal.

I noticed that your barrel wasn't connected to the plunger tube. How do you get it to connect to get it to seal for the darts for when you fire it?

My guess, seeing in the video that you are using electrical tape in place of the o-ring, is that you should find a lubricant listed here, put that on the electrical tape, and go from there.

P.S. You might want to work on your grammar and spelling as to not irritate the Admins.

oh i just took that part off i have it just like the normal LS. I also found out that then i move it back and forward air gets out from the orange tube (that holds the plunger) how would i fix that i think that might be the issue?

You could add some electrical tape under the o-ring to improve your seal.

I see. That might be why you aren't getting a good seal for your darts. My barrel sticks a few inches out of the front of the gun, and when I cock it, the cpvc goes to the orange piece that sticks out of the gun, it's all one piece and attached to the plunger tube. If you had a longer piece of cpvc, you could try doing the same thing I did. With just the barrel replacement, taking out the AR's, and adding a BBB spring, it shoots an average of 100'.

Video doesn't work again xD And it doesn't HAVE to be a bbb spring, it can be really anything else that fits and works for you.
