This one is really pushing the idea of slight variations in handling. I can see the uses for a Recon, Raider, or Deploy in terms of different handling. The recon is a light pistol, and the smallest gun to use the clip system, the raider has rapid fire, and a huge capacity, and the deploy has that nice collapsing feature putting it somewhere between the portability of the recon, and the rapid fire of the raider. (and the longstrike just plain looks good).

But this thing is kind of just the raider with a smaller drum and a different grip. In terms of pure function it's identical. I can only see it being useful if you just plain find the raider to be uncomfortable. Shotgun grip instead of vertical grip, and vertical clip instead of horizontal.

I do kind of like the 18 shot mini drum though. It's a nice middle ground between raw capacity, and lighter easier handling. I do wish Hasbro would stop pushing the drums as the gun's selling point and just sell the drums on their own though.

Anyway, the Alpha Trooper looks nice and might have improved handling over the raider, but it doesn't really bring anything new to the table, just tweaks what already exists. That might not be a bad thing though.

You know, I personally think that hasbro has spies(or whatever you want to call it) sneaking around NH, I mean seriously, why would they give us thier latest info on stuff before Facebook?, there has to be a catch of some sort.

There IS a catch. We can't post with info/pics that haven't been sent out by Hasbro, such as the one of the spartan which was on here earlier. We're lucky because hasbro could have demanded that speculation posts be taken down and just left it at that. They don't have to give us the information first, but they're going to anyway. We're getting a good deal.

I really fail to see the point in this. Sure, if you need a reverse plunger blaster for indoor wars this would be a fine choice. But most of us have multiple recons, raiders, deploys, and/or longstrikes. Buying this just because it looks different is a waste of money.

Looks interesting. I'd buy it only because it would be fun to mod. And I like the drum. Looks so much easier for me to use than the raider drum.

I like the Raider, but I don't like that the drum sticks out the side.........Alpha Trooper is the answer to that.

So true, we don't like Reverse Plungers at all, but some 9 year olds on my street love how fast you can shoot. Of course my Modded AT2K fires farther, but it doesn't look at cool as a Recon.

Well...it's a pump-action recon. The Rapid Fire means nothing to me because I never found it useful in the Raider. Meh.

In any case, it's nice of the guys at hasbro to give us the first info. In this case it's not necessarily useful because I really only had to look at the Alpha Trooper to see what it was. I look forward to more releases regardless.

Well captain, I found these on the web, the second one looks like a maverick made into a rifle and I'm not sure if the first on is real, but i think we all know what it looks like.

i just got mine a few days ago and the drum can actually hold up to 20 darts... not just 18 and it has a range of about 35-40... not kidding... it is a nice gun

I just got one tonight, and this is the most pleased I've been with a blaster straight out of the package. I can confirm am1259's claim about 40 ft range - apparently it has a new AR design that gives it better range? It's a very comfortable gun to me too. Not so sure about modding potential, but I definitely consider it a worthwhile buy.

I'm also fairly happy with the Alpha Trooper out of the box. I really like the mini-drum design, and the ranges for a stock blaster are pretty decent. Probably will still do an AR removal, though.

Has anyone else noticed that the trigger pull is kind of odd? Like you have to pull it really hard/far to get it to shoot, and even then it sometimes doesn't fire right away? I think it has to do with the "slam-fire" mechanism, because if you hold the shotgun grip farther forward, it's easier to shoot. If you let it "float", it can be more difficult.

EDIT: Just did an AR removal, results are pretty impressive. This is actually a really decent little blaster for the price. Good ammo capacity and ROF, coupled with decent range. I could see using this as a primary in an indoor war or perhaps a (albeit larger) secondary in an outdoor one.
