Ctf is great if you make it so the team has to get it to the opponents side. The problem as always is what's stopping someone from grabbing the flag and just barreling off with it. When we played at the paintball field that was the whole point of making people hang the flag on the nearest bunker. That way if the flag carrier got tagged it would basically be an immediate turnover. So lets say if the flag carrier gets hit he has to give the flag to the nearest opponent. What this does is makes teams protect their carrier and actually play the damn game rather then the flag carrier just look for an opportunity to break away.

That makes sense, but I think we could take it one step further. First of all, I think the single flag style is just begging for a collision in the middle of the field. What if we went with a flag in either base, and you had to have both flags in your base to score. If a flag is stolen and the person carrying it is shot, that person must return the flag to it's base of origin before returning to his own base to respawn. Once both flags are in a base, that team scores a point. and the game is paused just long enough to reset the flags. We play on a timer and the team with the most scores wins. Teams could also swap bases after every score if that made things more equitable.

I suggest this style because that 's how it works in most video games, and that's the only medium where CTF works with any regularity.

Totally worth the drive from Cincinnati; I expect to make it out that way again at least once or twice more this season.

With any CTF game, there needs to be respawn points not in the immediate base area because you could kill everyone in the base just to have them respawn before you can make it out. The field is kinda crowded and making it back seems almost impossible unless you've already annihilated the opposing team. I could see two flag push working fairly well. Each team starts with a flag in their base and just has to get it to the other team's base (or have both in at the same time with the rule that the person shot with the flag has to return it to their base). It would prevent just colliding in the middle and also allow more scoring by not requiring the team to have to return back to their base.

And floor sliding was pretty Effeminate. I also enjoyed my 360 spin between two boxes during a pistols round. Those later pistol rounds really were good times.

Yeah, push probably makes more sense. Still, the spawn area is tricky. The bases are the only areas that are routinely out of play. Anywhere else and you might have an opposing player bunkered in your team's spawn point. The oly other option I really see is to have people spawn in the corner of the room by the opposing team's base.

What about spawning in areas near mid-field? In reference to The Grid's set up:

Blue's base would be back by the garage bay area.
Red's base would be at the opposite end, by the locker box.

Blue's spawn point would be at the wall, halfway from either base, across from the doors.
Red's spawn point would be at the wall, also halfway from either base, on the same side as the doors.

That would eliminate the bunkers in those areas from play for the other team, since dead players would be spawning right on top of you. Though, those littls plywood houses might be very useful as spawn points. , or even as flag points with the original bases used as spawn points.

I was just using the Grid as a reference point, because I knew that was something we all had in common. This is definately not limited to that venue. It was just a way of offering some form of visualization to my words. However, The plywood houses as flag points, with original bases as spawn points offers more sheltering to the respawning players.

BPSO POST TIEM LULZ!!!

So I had a good time, arena wasn't bad (too much bunker-ing, like paintball/airsoft). I would agree that the last few pistol rounds were the best of the day. Also, as I soon realized, anything more powerful than a bbb was just overkill, which is why I was using my bbb with megas for most of the day.

Tons of pics (finally!):

Not with the hopper on it. I'll try to remember to take a few when I get home tomorrow night.

It looks like everyone had a awesome time. If I wasn't in the middle of job hunting, taking care of my 1 yr old son and packing to move I would've attended. Maybe next time I can make it.
