Alright, so after being validated a few days ago I guess, I just looked up near my controls to find the "re-send validation" thing was gone, I decided to post something to "contribute" to the NIC here. Anyway, I picked up this neat little blaster at Goodwill last week, and planned to modify it. It was in just about perfect condition, the original stickers and paint still had that glossy look, but the ammo holders were gone and no ammo. Nevertheless, I bought it for two dollars. Keep in mind while reading, this really isn't much of a mod, rather than a showcase of the NB-1 Missle Launcher, since I've found very little on it when searching.
Without further rambling, I'll get on with this "mod".

Materials:

-Your Blaster.
-6 inches of OMC PETG (Thickwall)
-Electrical Tape

Just from that list you can tell it's going to be the hardest mod ever.

Honestly, I love this thing. It may suck ass, it may be wierd looking, but that's exactly it, it's a misfit--- like me. Notice the tiny air output, if you can even see that. Sorry for the blurry pics occasionally, my phone has a good camera in it, but it's hard to steady due to its round shape.

So let's get started. First you're going to want to cut off that long black "barrel" right at the nub. When you're done, it'll look something like this:

Posted Image

Next you're gonna want to de-burr that and widen the air output hole just a bit.

Posted Image

After widening that as much as you want to, next we're going to take the black piece that has the hose connected to it off of the main shell, (don't worry, it comes right off, just wiggle it around and pull it off) and wrap it with some e-tape.

Posted Image

As you can see so far, this is pretty self-explanatory. Just wrap enough e-tape around it until your desired barrel material (PETG or Brass would be best, it wouldn't build up enough pressure to launch a dart out of CPVC) fits on there snugly.

Posted Image

Then you're done! In this mod I wanted to keep as much of the stock look as possible, which is why I used PETG. Make sure to use a loose (but not too loose) fitting barrel material, since this gun really doesn't build up any pressure at all, to be honest and could'nt launch a dart out of CPVC.

Q and A:

Q: How do you even use this blaster, I've never even seen it before.
A: You pull the black handled pump out, and just push it back as fast as you can for the most part, to fire the dart / arrow.

Q: What else could you do besides this barrel replacement?
A: Not much, sadly. You could possibly overhaul this thing (lol) by taking off the black hose and the port it connect to and put a barrel straight on that, so the air isn't directed through a hose. You'd have to fire it backwards though, which would be kind of awkward, even more so than this blaster is already. An idea I also had was to take maybe two rather powerful extension springs, hook them on maybe where the ammo holders would be, and to the pump as well, so you can add a bit of accuracy.

Q: Where are the screws?
A: There acually are none on this blaster, the shell is just glued together, I guess.

Q: Why the hell did you even bother to mod this?
A: I was bored, and for shits and giggles.

To anyone who sees this at a Thrift Store or Garage sale, I'd say buy it. It's really a fun and nostalgic blaster if anything, especially if you can get it for under $10 or so. And as far as ranges go, I'm not going to bother measuring. I'd say maybe 8 feet. Yeah, really.

Managing to rack up a kill with a stock one is pretty sweet though. Been there, done it! =)

Mine is in near-new condition with 3 arrows (2 black/yellow, one yellow/black. Original?) Anyone else found one anywhere? Are these things just tanks and never die?

I bought one from a farmers market a while ago. I think they are supposed to come in a set of two to connect together, but I only found one. These things probably stay around because of simplicity (fewer parts).

I like simple mods to a gun that that desperatley needs the improvement, but isn't capable of it. Nice job.

The NB-1 doesn't connect together with anything. If you are referring to the slots on the side, those are for the "missile holder" that slots into it. It is a wide, v-shaped black piece of plastic that slides in to the two slots on the side of the NB-1 and has a round slot on each end to hold 1 missile per slot.

My younger brother and I had a pair of these many years ago when we were kids. We used to have fast-paced running duels with them in our back yard. I remember them with great fondness, though that pair is long gone. I've got one that I picked up cheap on EBay a while ago, but I haven't managed to bring myself to modding it. I'd love to put a coupler on it and be able to switch between a micro barrel and the original missile tube, but I'm not sure if it has enough power to handle that and still manage to shoot.

Sadly no, I just put a wider diameter stefan in there that fits sort of tight in PETG and couldn't get it to leave the barrel, this gun can't handle any sort of backpressure. Even when you have an optimal barrel fit, it still only gets about 10 feet which makes me sad. I've read reviews on it though, and the original arrows (angled of course, but still) are supposed to range at 40 feet, which really surprised me. I'm not sure if I just have a REALLY shitty seal on this, or maybe a leak somewhere, but I'm pretty puzzled as to how it would attain the pressure to launch an arrow off the orginal barrel stub, let alone 40 feet.

For the ranges you are getting, that barrel is way too long. Also, it would help to attach the barrel directly to the plunger tube. You might have to move some things around, but those should increase your ranges.

I know that the hose is greatly decreasing ranges, since the air has to travel through that, but if I had taken a picture of the front of the stock barrel, there is acually a really tiny air hole. Maybe 1, 1 and 1/2 16ths of an inch high, and about 1/4 of an inch wide. Pretty small. I didn't have any arrows though with it, so I couldn't attest to stock ranges to see if I have a leak possibly. The barrel I don't think is too long, since this gun acually releases a lot of air, but over a very long period of time for a Nerf gun, and I thought a longer barrel would help the dart get the maximum force of the air. But if I can find a shorter piece of PETG I'll try it and report back.

That your darts do not leave the barrel is due to the fact, that the pressure of the air widens the dart a bit when it travels through the tube, the arrows sit around the tube , so they cause alot less friction.......

Yeah, I know. That's why I used PETG rather than tight-fitting brass or CPVC since the PETG I have is really loose on my darts. The stock barrel has a very small hole the air has to travel through as well, so that's why the arrows will go so far.
As for your question Warhawk, I honestly don't know, but you should be able to. I think it'd just be a matter of finding a barrel that will fit onto this.

I guess that would depend on your definition of "fire." ;)

Moving on, I like your NB-1 Broderick. Try a shorter barrel and slap a bungee on there. :)

since it sucks as-is, maybe try to find something that fits the INSIDE of a dart and use the thing to fire darts like it did the arrows? sleeve the inside of the dart with a soda straw might help, you might even leave some extra straw hanging out to have a longer "barrel" push.

either that, or cut the little flappy end off a whoopie cushion and make farting noises with it.

I say, "POLLISH THAT TURD!" and pwn at the next walk-in-closet nerf war.
