So I have no idea how I can make both that and this, unless someone's willing to spend lunch driving me to a train station or something...

(If something comes up and I can't make it, I'll let you know ASAP. It is fairly unlikely at this point, but with a pregnant wife who has 7 weeks to go, you never know...)

Round schedule is now finalized (I think)
Quote
Round Schedule:
Arrive at no later than 9:45 AM. We will go over basic rules and safety. We will begin playing at 10:00. If you're not there and ready to go at 10:00, you'll miss the first round.
10:00 AM - Capture the Flag and/or variants
11:00 AM - Territories
12:00 PM - Dart Sweep/Lunch
1:00 PM - VIP
2:00 PM - Team Powerball - Best of 3 rounds, 15 minutes each
3:00 PM - Dart Sweep
3:15 PM - Defend the Core (2 cores) - Best of 3 rounds, 15 minutes each
4:30 PM - Carpe testiculum (Seize the balls)
5:30 PM - Dart Sweep, End of war
Click on the links for the rules. The other games are easy enough to explain at the war.
We have also updated the rules on shields.
Quote
Shield Rules:
We'll be testing out our new shield rules for this war. You'll be limited on the size of your shield depending on what blaster you're wielding. Here is the breakdown..
Melee = 3 sq/ft
Single shot pistol, ranges < 50' - 2 sq/ft
Anything else, ranges <50' - 1 sq/ft
Blasters shooting over 50' will not be allowed to use a shield.
Shields can be made from whatever, cardboard should be reinforced with duct tape.
At this time, you guys should know if you're coming or not, so please update your attendance. There is also a possibility the war will be moved to a different location. I'm going to see how busy the current location is on a Saturday to see if it will be suitable for us. The secondary location won't be more than 10 miles from the current one.
Barrel tapping has also been eliminated from the rules. We've had more injuries relating to barrel taps than actually shooting people from point blank.

In regards to the shield rules - that sounds like fun and I might throw a few shields together. One question though. You list "Melee = 3 sq/ft". I understand that this means that if you choose to be armed solely with a melee weapon for a round, you can have a shield up to 3 sq/ft in total size.
This immediately brings to mind something which I might try out, but only if you approve ahead of time. Would it be acceptable to have two short boffers (say 2'-2.5' each) and a pair of small (~1-1.5 sq/ft each) bucklers strapped to my arms? If I am understanding things correctly, that would allow me to block with each buckler, as well as the "blade" of each boffer, but limit my attacks to melee only.
I ask because it sounds like a lot of fun to run around while people are shooting at me, blocking shots with the bucklers and tapping them out with my foam-swords - though I would probably only try it in one or two rounds. If this seems a little extreme, I won't do it, but if you approve, I might give it a go.

Despite the fact I am a newer member, with almost zip moding experience, I'ld like some war experience. I'm a maybe. Its good to know of a war close to me though.
If you're worried your guns won't be competitive, ask to borrow a gun. Most people bring more guns than they use, and I for one am happy to lend them out.

Surely. Bring it along and we'll see. If it turns out to be too ridiculous then I'll ask you to put it down, but it's worth a shot.
If it turns out to be too ridiculous, you won't need to ask.

Basically, I just like to try different ways to have fun. If I'm not having fun, or someone else's fun is adversely affected in a substantial manner, I'm not going to press the issue. Now, let's see how my duct tape supply is holding up...

I was just thinking about that myself. My guess would be that melee would not block darts if you have a shield.Since we allow shields (and rather large ones), melee weapons themselves do not block darts right?
That takes a lot of the fun out of swords. Perhaps the largest profile of the melee weapon could be included in the total shield area?

That will shrink my bucklers a bit, but it still might be worth a try, just for the fun factor.

Tomorrow I will drive by the war location to see if it's mobbed or not. If it's overwhelmingly busy, we're going to be changing the location which will be within 10 miles of Lake Ellyn.
