It sounds like there is enough interest to pull this off, so let's get moving on this.

Northern Virginia Thanksgiving War

When: November 27th/28th
Time: 10:00AM-Everybody pansies out and goes home
Where: http://maps.google.c...006968&t=h&z=18
Rules: Pretty relaxed. Bring ammo, bring friends, have fun. Bans will be determined on a case by case basis.

Attendees:
Imaseoulman + 1-2
Eboreg
Galaxy613 + 1
LOMHawkeye + 2
CaptainSlug (Probably)
T dog
Phree Agent

WOW! We've got ten people! That's a good war right there.

Let's get more to commit! See you all there this Saturday!

What to expect? A small war that will be a ton of fun. I don't know about you guys, but I like to have fun while NERFing. Expect a variety of games, but mostly standard team 3-15 and CTF (my personal favorite). If you have an idea for a game, we'll try it out.

When I NERF I play hard and I'm very competitive. To keep things fun I will not tolerate whining/complaining/cheating. Remember, NERF is on your honor, so man up and play for fun. Arguing about hits is not fun so it will not happen. Also, despite what some of you think, pain is not fun. If a blaster is so powerful people would rather quit than get hit by it, it probably needs to be banned. Use all of your blasters responsibly. I will be bringing some of my more unusual creations to show off and experiment with, feel free to do the same, but make sure you have a sturdy primary.

Make sure to sound off about which day works better and where you would prefer it takes place (right now I'm leaning toward somewhere in Loudon county).

Now get your gear ready, convince some friends to join you and let's make this happen! NERF on!

==========Original Post=======
I'll be visiting family in Northern Virginia this Thanksgiving weekend and I was wondering if anybody would be interested in getting together for a war on that Friday or Saturday (27th or 28th). Even if only a few people could show up I think it would be worth it.

I don't have a place picked out, but I know a lot of good areas around there to get things going if there's enough interest.

So, nothing too solid, but:

When: Nov. 27th or 28th
Where: TBD (Norther VA/DC/Maryland area)
Rules: Pretty lax.

Let's see if we can get a few people out on the weekend.

NERF ON!

Also, if there isn't enough interest for a NERF war I'd also be down to just meet up with some NERFers for a jam session talking about ideas for NERF, working on a joint project, etc., maybe over BBQ or something (I feel like I have to call "No Homo" or it becomes a date if only one person showed up). Anyway, a little unconventional to post something like this, but I thought I'd try.

I would love to attend. I'll be staying in Fredericksburg with two brothers and one cousin. We're experienced Nerfers from Michigan (we just hosted a 11-man war; thread on NHQ). I'm not familiar with the area, but anything within an hour of Fredericksburg on the 27th or 28th should be reasonably attainable.

1. Too short notice
2. There really isn't a sizeable population of Nerfers near there. You're a little more than an hour away from both Richmond and DC.

Dude, I wanted to check out/try out your felt tippd darts!

Are you 65 years old? How far in advance do you book your schedule solid? An individual attending a nerf war requires: location, functioning blaster, darts. All of those can be knocked off in a single afternoon.

DC or Richmond are each only an hour away, and I'm willing to make that drive. I'm bringing 4 people (including myself) who will be equipped with blasters and darts. If necessary I can bring extra darts/blasters for additional people. My 4 and another 4 is 8, which is great for a small war. imaseoulman + CaptainSlug + 2 friends = 4.

Any other issues you foresee?

I'll want to be going but until I get more information, I'm a maybe. I prefer an area that's only a short drive from my home and also, my family might do something on the 27th.

Actually I'm 365 years old. And should you really be surprised by people having specific plans ON THANKSGIVING WEEKEND? Especially when it's less than two weeks away.
And garnering attendance from more than a handful of individuals in this area typically requires a minimum of one months notice. And if you want them to show up it's best for the site to be chosen and hosted by someone that has actually frequented the area.

There are only a few DC-area Nerfers that attend Wars regularly. I'm not sure how many of the few have schedules as open as yours.
If you want recommendations for war sites let me know. I'm not likely to attend though.

If imaseoulman even wants to do this we'll need to get a place. The only possible way I could think about coming is if it's on a Saturday. I have darts and blasters ready. It's possibly me plus a newbie.

I know it's Thanksgiving weekend, but I think we have enough people interested to at least take a stab at it. I can commit to either day, depending on which day works best for everybody else.

I prefer something closer to D.C. and I prefer Friday over Saturday. I'll start looking for a place. Sound off if you can make it.

Edit: I'll update the first post to actually look like a war thread instead of a random notice. Looks like we have a war on!

Perhaps Wheaton Regional Park in Wheaton, MD? I've talked to Crankymonky about hosting a war there one of these days. It's got a lot of space and later in the day we may be able to use the playground for a couple rounds if there aren't any kids there.

Me plus one would be a VERY tentative maybe depending on location, date etc. It doesn't really matter which day because honestly I have no idea what the family has planned for either day. But, if the stars align and everything works out, it will be me plus one.

As soon as we hammer out a location, and as long as it's on Saturday... I'm still a maybe. I might be needed at work on Saturday, or I might not. If it's Friday I definetly won't be able to come.

*Edit in reply to CaptainSlug's post below mine*

Bruin Park looks like, it's closer to me and I'll spend less time on the beltway which is always plus..

It might be nice to use Bruin Park again.

Worked well for SuperNoVA, had plenty of space and variety, the local cops are nice, and it's not a deal-breaker if other people are in the park.

Sounds like Saturday is the most accomodating and I like the idea of Bruin Park. It's been tried out and is a pretty central location. So, any objections to Saturday at Bruin Park? Sound off and I'll update the first post.

Well I CAN commit to being there, but if the attendance doesn't increase much, I may not come either. Do you have a cut off number in mind, or will this war happen no matter how many people say they are coming?

Edit: I will be there for sure. Numbers are looking better by the day.

Darts and Blasters for him won't be an issue...
