May I suggest trying a slightly longer barrel? It seems like it should be able to go quite a bit further than 5" for barrel length.

... possibly even using LongShot clips. It would be compatible with the upcoming Raider's 35-round Drum that way.

We don't know how well that drum works or if it will even fit stefans. Longshot magazines already are oversized for stefan uses.

The drum doesn't have any pegs, and it is meant to hold streamlines. I'm pretty sure it could fit stefans as long as they're not too thick.

I'm new to nerf but feel like I'm good at modding and at playing.

Currently modding every gun I can get my hands on.

Working on my own mod. I can't wait to finish and get the write-up...well written up. =)

So this is my understanding. When cocked, the plunger head comes right up in front of that groove, and the spring is compressed, correct?

I might be able to go farther but I think I will stick with what I have now. My plunger volume is actually pretty small and I'm not sure extra barrel length would benefit. I am also happy with the ranges and the overall look of the gun. If I add anymore length to the gun it may just look weird. I still want to preserve the 'pistol' look.

That is correct. The draw is about 3-1/4".

I don't want to use the LS or raider mags because they are just too big for stefans, and I want to try my hand at making my own drum mags.

Meh. My stefans are 2.5" long, so I never think about stefan compatibility when it comes to LS clips.

If you could create a working design, a homemade drum would be much better than a raider drum anyway, simply because you would be able to use space more effectively. The Raider's drum is horribly inefficient, with darts only on the outer edge of the drum...

Very nice job. I am currently designing something similar, but I am getting hung up on the catch design. Could you take some more pics of the catch setup and explain it a little better? also when you build a smaller magazine could you possibly do a write up?

What do you mean by catch? Are you referring to the trigger/plunger latch assembly?

As for the magazine, its just a wood box. Nothing special. I knew the size of my darts, cut pieces of wood to fit them (4 sides and bottom), and glued them together. I have a picture of my 'slide' that pushes the darts up on the first page of this topic, and the design for that is also quite simple. I also gave the part # for the spring I used. All the info you need is pretty much posted but I can try to get some pictures of the assembly when I make another mag.

By catch I mean how the plunger gets stuck then released by the trigger.

Ok, here is my simple MS paint rendering of how the trigger works.

Posted Image

What goes on here is that when the plunger gets pushed back it pushes down (in the picture the part actually gets pushed up) a L-shaped brass rod that is glued to the PVC at its far end. When the plunger passes, the rod springs back which catches the plunger. The actual trigger mechanism is also simple. There is another brass rod over the business end of the L-shaped rod who's orientation is into/out of the page. This acts as a pulley for a metal cable. This cable, when pulled, pulls the L-shaped rod up and releases the plunger. This pulling is done by the trigger which is mounted on a pivot. You can see all the mechanisms clearly in the 5th picture of my first post.

thank you. That really helped me understand. I saw the pic on the first page but did not see where the string went. What materials did you use for the plunger rod and the white catch thing(i am assuming pvc but what)?

The whole plunger system is designed in the same fashion as the +bow, so I used 1/2" nylon for the rod, and sandwiched a rubber washer between two steel fender washers at the end. The catch end of the plunger has another steel washer with some PVC after it which was sanded to a cone-ish shape to help depress the catch pin. The white part that supports the 'pulley' is 3/4" PVC and the part that holds the far end of the catch pin is a small section of 1-1/4" PVC.

I got around to painting my gun. Everything is coming together well. I also made a new smaller 8 round magazine for the gun as a smaller profile option. I have to paint both magazines and make a new handle to cycle the gun which I should be able to do tonight. I'll post some more shots of the gun in its finished state when I get those things done.

I love your clips so much! How much would it cost for you to make me a 12 round clip and the wooden piece the clip slides into? I am making a version of Boltsnipers BS-9 except with a removable clip. This means that I wouldn't use the steel piece that makes it so the darts won't pour out.

Angry monk, I love the gun, it’s one of the nicest homemade I’ve ever seen. The only thing is it lacks the eye raping color scheme, and looks similar to a sten gun. I could see real problems if you walk outside with that thing.

All this time, I thought this gun was awesome.

Now that it's black, I think it's one of the gayest things ever.

PAINT IT NEON ORANGE!

Very oversized, I think not.

Seeing the size comparison with the Longshot makes it not seem that horribly big, but it's no SSPB.

Nice job. I really like well-thought-out homemades.

So Monk you make any progress on a larger scale version? I have been working on my own version and i am thinking if you increase the plunger diameter and stick it in a larger upper case you could keep the same length and increase the air out put substantially. I am thinking 2" PVC encasing a polycarbonate tube 2" in diameter.

I do plan to make a larger scale version of this gun, by not now. When I do, I think I will take the +bow plunger and simply put it inside 1.5" PVC. I might make the plunger length longer, but I'm not sure. I really don't want to step unto 2" PVC because I just find that too big for a good portable nerf rifle. I have some sketches I made for the initial design and it seems very doable. The only real change I will make is to use the tandem breach instead of the LS version I used in this gun. I found the LS breach too hard on the darts. It tends to bend them when pushing them into the barrel... Its sorta hard to visualize unless you've seen this gun work. There are ways to fix it, but combined with the fact that there is also a huge gap between the plunger tube and the dart, I have to say that the tandem beach looks like a better option.

But fear not, the reason I am holding off on the riffle now is because I have a different gun that I'm working on now. I decided to try my hand at an air powered nerf gun, just to see what it was like. I have oppositions to air powered guns for several reasons; not all of which are entirely sound, but that's just the way I think. I'll get into them when I post about the gun later on. My plan with my next gun is pure power. I'm going to be running it from a large external tank, max firing pressure is going to be ~90psi, if not more. The gun will hopefully have enough internal reserve air storage to fire 5 rounds at near full power, and empty the ~10rd mag at lesser pressures. This gun will be heavy, big, not very portable, but it will be a monster. It will not be something anyone will want to get shot with closer than 100ft. Its basically a loser riffle. I'm just going for range and power. I already tested the internals and it shot a dart clean through 5 layers of 1/8" corrugated cardboard @ 90pis. It can also shoot clean through a soda can at 70 psi (soda can is just sitting on a surface, not held down at all). Oh yeah, it will also be semi-auto.

Regarding the VOS pistol.. I'm tweaking the 8rd mag, it and the gun don't want to play nice together. Once that's done and painted I'll post the final pictures.

Slug made a homemade xbox?!

Anyway I wouldn't use anything more than 1.5" PVC for a springer because it's just too bulky and rubber washers don't come in that many sizes that large.

Lt. Stefan with my idea I only need a 1 7/8" washer because that is the id of polytube that fits in the 2" pvc. I think it could really work, but I first plan to make out of stuff I have.

Crazy, huh? Yeah, I found his topic a while back, I though it was an odd diversion from nerf but hey, people have other interests, right?

Sorry 'bout that, typo.

well I'm working on a full scale version as well. But as soon as I saw this topic, I nearly punched the screen cause it's similar to my design. but it's going to be made with acryllic.

The gun is finished. Finally. I got the 8rd mag to behave and play nice, and got it painted. I am very happy with the results from this project. This gun has the feel of a very effective sub primary or large secondary. Now it just needs another larger version to take point, in my opinion.

BTW, I didn't paint the tops of the mags because I didn't want the paint to add friction to the magazine loading system. I really don't mind the odd look, everything is supposed to look cool in the gun anyway.

Here are some picts and I even shot a demo vid of the gun and posted it on youtube for your viewing pleasure: http://www.youtube.c...re=channel_page

No. Black. I liked it before. Now...I'm sorry, it's just too "take-it-outside-and-get-shot-because-people-think-it's-a-real-gun." Work on getting some orange onto there. I mean, it's still kinda cool, I guess...the black brought down my feelings on it a bit.
