...and send you to oboe lessons every day after school.

Yay! Oboe!

Sorry MAC, you don't have much luck in regaining the ability to nerf. Although I understand why they're angry. If by any chance that they let you keep nerfing, give all your guests a waiver (that you write) and tell them that if they don't follow the rules, they'll probably get hurt, but you're not liable, even though it's your gun and your rules.

Wow, that's a tough spot you're in. I've seen some nasty eye-shots in my time but never one that laid a kid up for a week. As far as you nerfing again, you may have to take it back to square one.

First off, you're going to have to have a serious talk with your parents about the whole incedent. You're going to have to admit that things got out of hand and your blasters were being used in a way that you didn't approve of. Let them know that you're still interested in Nerfing but would appreciate their help in finding a way to make it safe and ensure that this type of thing doesn't happen again. It might not hurt to mention that Nerf is still safer than Paintball or Airsoft, and that it's a fun outdoor activity that you enjoy.

Second, if the kids you're nerfing with are on the younger side (ie; under 16) you may have to start things off with unmodded guns. The truth is that most of the mods that are found on pages like NH are intended for the use of young adults. If your friends aren't treating your blasters with the appropriate respect they deserve than hand them an unmodded RF20 or something. This might also work in conjuncture with what I said above. Try explaining that you still want to try modding some guns because you find it interesting and challenging but that you don't think you want you and your friends to use them in a game until you're older.

Finally, if the guns they're using are yours than you should absolutely insist on everyone wearing the appropriate protection. If any of your friends try to give you a hard time you're gonna have to be a dick and tell them to fuck off. If they're gonna use your guns they have to play by your rules.

Note:
When speaking to parents try adhereing to these vocabulary choices:

DON'T SAY- Guns, Ammo, Wars, Fired at, Hit
DO SAY- Blasters, Nerf Darts, Games/Matches, Launched, Tagged

Wtf is up with this??? One of your friends shot his brother in the eye when he was taking a break? Why in gods name should you be punished whatsoever. Hide ALL of your guns. If your parents are a wee bit dumb, take advantage of that. Anything to play Nerf. Good luck.

Hide your best guns, and have your parents throw out like a few crap guns, and maybe one gun that they saw you with.

and then when they go to throw out the guns, tell them to sell them on ebay, and they can keep the money if you can keep other guns.

(do you have an EaB?, I'll buy it off you).....(or maybe an x-bow?)...(or a defender)...(or a BBB)

The answer is that his friend's brother got shot in the eye by a gun that Mac owns while playing a game that was Mac's idea. Add these to the fact that apparently none of his friend's parents (especially his) don't like Nerf and you have all the reason a parent needs in this world.

Anyways, yeah you could hide your guns and play dumb or try to fool your parents but you'd just be setting yourself up for the same thing to happen again. Even when we first started out, none of the Horsemen (or kids we used to Nerf with) ever had to try and trick our parents. We were just upfront and honest, followed any guidelines they suggested to us, and we sucked it up and didn't make a big deal if one of us did get injured while playing.

Anyways, it's your life so do what you want. You can either try what CX or some of the older vets have suggested; have a calm, mature conversation with your parents and work towards compromise. Or you can just try lying to them, hiding your guns, and hoping they won't say anything when you and your friends start Nerfing again.

I totally agree with Talio on this one, you must be honest. Unfortunately you don’t have a whole lot to stand on in this argument. I think that a good compromise may be in order that may work out for the best. I don’t know if this is possible in your situation but it is certainly worth a try. Admit that nerfing can be hazardous it also has many redeeming qualities, it teaches tool use, encourages out door exercise, team play and many other things.

There are plenty of other, less wholesome things that you could be doing such as playing video games and watching TV (I bet you thought that I was going to say dealing crack didn’t you?) but you and your friends have chosen nerfing. Recent events have proven that nerfing as you know it today may not be appropriately safe however this can change with parental supervision, support and involvement. Not only can an adult officiate but they can bring new aspects to your game.

It is far easier for an adult to enforce rules than for a peer to do the same thing. Also through their years of experience they can see problems coming and will better know how to deal with problems and emergencies should they arrive.

If this doesn’t work you can always ask for a red rider bb gun for Christmas and blame an icicle when you shoot your eye out.

Here is exactly wat happened...or what everyone told me since when the kid got shot I was down my basement grabing more ammo.
The only warning in advance i had was the ear splitting scream from a 12 year old shot in the eye.
They were all takeing a brake and eating some chips, and one of the kids was out looking for stefans, and when he found one, loaded it in the maxshot he was using. He then saw the 12 year old sitting on a curb eating chips. He thought that it would be funny to shoot him in the stomach while he was sitting there
He did not take into consideration that his eye protection was off. The reason he got hit in the eye, was the exact moment the gun was shot, the 12 year old bent down. (wierd timeing)
well...

Good news sorta....I managed to divert my parents away from my guns long enough for their anger to subside. Now instead of saying they are going to throw them out, they say i can only use them by myself, which isnt very fun, but at least ill be able to mod sum guns.

I secreatly called all my sane nerf friends, and we all agreed to try to slowly start nerfing again when summer starts. Right now were gonna let things cool down, and when summer starts tell our parents that were going to start nerf wars again, but only with kids old enough and we will tell them we will only nerf with adult supervision if they care that much.

About not having wars for a little while. . . .

It's not too bad. I've only had a few wars, and they were with kids that barely knew what they were doing.

So I'm confined to working in my basement and staring at the computer screen.

It's not too bad.

. . . . For a while.

I dunno, I can't tell you what to do. I nerf by myself in the winter just shooting at targets and modding guns and stuff. Then in the summer my friends use my guns in my basement for nice little 2 on 2 knock out wars. The one day the one guy's lil bro tagged along and got shot in the eye, we flushed it out with water and went out side so we wouldn't lose vision wearing sunglasses in the house.

From a parent's perspective;

What cx said was true. What Famine said and what Talio confirmed is also true.

Be straight up and forward with your parents, and come up with solutions, not excuses/ running from responsibility.

Hell, my boy is honest and responsible, and I build all his guns, and play with him too. (We also have fun shooting the stray dogs that come here and try to mate with my retreiver, but that's another story).

The last time he was dishonest with me, and spouted off a bunch of excuses, I simply exercised my authority. I sawed his toy shotgun in half in front of him, then threw it away. When he understood the concept of consequences for disobedience, I bought him a few Nite Finders.

Simple, huh?

Be honest. Be sincere. Be responsible.

Man that seriously does suck. I'm gonna go with everyone else on this and say that you shouldn't lie to your parents. Why don't you tell them that its better nerfing for a hobby than sitting at a computer or in front of a TV all day. Maybe its just personal experience when I say this, but don't bother them about it for awhile, let them together talk it over. With my parents, the more you bother them about stuff, the less likely they are to let you get what you want.

I got shot in the eye once, from 10 feet, with a cpvc'd at3k (and a stefan). It stung, a lot, and after I stopped rolling around in pain, I got up and washed it out. It hurt for 10 minutes but I wore eyewear while I nerfed from then on. Tell your friend he's a moron. Tell his brother to get well soon.

How is that funny that you haven't been shot in the eye, but someone else has? How is that funny? Would you have liked it if you were the one shot in the eye? I don't think you would be laughing right now.

Now you see, this is the type of thing that gets Nerfers like you in trouble. You made the dangerous assumption that 1/2 & 1/2 thinks, odds are that he doesn't. Likewise, Mac made a similar assumption that the kids he Nerfs with think. As a result of that erroneous conclusion his Nerfing rights are now endangered.

MAC, like others have said before me, your best bet is to just sort it out with your parents. Making excuses and lying can work, but if you get caught, the consequences will be even more severe. Not good.

Sorry to say it, but it's truly your fault for the whole situation. I'm not saying that you didn't, but you really should've emphasized towards your friends that Nerf aren't little toys once they're modified for performance. You'd be surprised at how many non-Nerfers pick up a modded gun and make the assumption that it's the kind their friend got at Toys 'R' Us. That's exactly how accidents happen.

As a matter of fact, the other day, I had a friend over, who I trust with my Nerf guns because he knows the safety precautions. However, with him he brought one of his friends, who had no experience whatsoever with modified blasters. He picked up my brass modified Splitfire and pegged two shots in my leg from six inches away. It really hurt. I yelled at him, and he did it again with a CPVC modified Nite Finder. He completely underestimated the power that comes from a modified Nerf toy. That was the last time I let him enter my house.

Basically, the fact is, whenever you are Nerfing with somebody unfamiliar to unmodified guns, you should always emphasize that they are not toys and meant to be treated like a real firearm. I doubt that kid would've shot your friend in the "stomach" if he was using a paintball gun rather than a Max Shot.

This isnt the first time they have all played. We play almost every weekend, and are usually extra carful. I dont know what the kid was thinking when he decided to shoot the gun. Before he shot that kids eye he was usually respectful of the dangers of modified nerf guns.
