I've got the original LS spring in as well as another, sturdier, probably way too powerful for the longshot spring in, and its a bitch to prime. Last time i did I think i heard something snap, but i'll check to see if anythings damaged in the morning. I used to have the original and 2 maverick springs (they fit really well) in, but i was unsatisfied with the ranges.

So how many springs (and what springs) do you feel comfortable with in your Longshot? Also, what ranges if you can give them.

You could use less springs or only one and just stretch the hell out of them.

Maybe, but like having at least 2 springs in at once.

I believe someone, Ice i think, told me on youtube how he got crazy ranges by using a combination of 3 springs in his. And not to say anything bad about him, but i don't see how thats probable. And if he DID use 3, the same 3 as me, im not getting anywhere near as good range.

Well, my longshot only has it's original spring in it, I really stretched it out and got much better ranges.

I'm running a BBB spring and the LS, my ranges are good, high 80's low 90's with it. 130 if I put a 30* angle on it.

Mine will get about 45-50 feet flat and about 60-70 feet angled

It all depends on what springs you use. LS+BBB tends to be a good combination. Don't stretch your springs by the way, it weakens them over time.

I would use a BBB spring if i had a spare one..
Maybe i'll try to buy one. Has anyone ever found one in a hardware store with similar qualities?

Yeah, there's one at Home Depot of similar power, but it's about 3/4" too short and bounces around when you fire the gun. You could try TrueValue, they have a WIDE selection of springs available for purchase (usually about $3 per spring.) I had to do a little research on this subject when I was building my SNAP-Twin (a variant of the SNAP-Duo.) If you're in need of spring, go to TrueValue.

Talk about the blind leading the blind. I don't usually advocate judging someone's expertise based on their post count, but here I might make an exception. Stretching a spring may give you a temporary increase in the force which is applied to the plunger, but the spring will quickly return to it's original state. On top of that, stretching the spring causes the spring to loose it's shape overall, which may result in the spring ending up weaker than it was before.

Langley is totally right. If any of you had ever taken Grade 12 Physics (I assume many of you aren't old enough for that) you would know that stretching a spring that is designed for compression takes it beyond it's elastic limit. Once you go over the elastic limit don't expect the spring to perform in a consistent fashion for very long in it's new state. Simply put, if a spring is built to a certain length don't try to change it, it may work better for a little while, but chances are you'll lose a fair bit of performance in the long run.

You could try a screen door closer spring. I have part of one in my BBB and in Daedalus. I have a Longshot spring, and these are stronger in comparison. In case you don't know what I mean, I'm referring to one of these: http://www.lowes.com...-000214-V820AFB

You have to break it apart though, to get to the spring.

Thanks for the suggestion, for some reason I always thought those had the reverse springs in them. (the ones that are stetched out as opposed to compressed)

It's not the number of springs that is important, it's how strong they are. You could have 10 springs in there and get worse ranges than stock as far as I'm concerned. Generally people use the longshot spring in addition to a BBB spring or a NF spring. Remember, the catch plate is designed for a plastic child's toy. Unless you're going to reinforce that, don't go crazy with springs. It will break.

So i put in all the springs (listed above) and it gets maybe 60-65ft.
Oh well, my BBB is my primary gun anyways. I'll use the LS as a back up if I need it.

Has no one read the recommendations for LS springs? First and foremost is the AR-15 Buffer spring. Available online or at most gun shops. And for good reason. When cut to the correct length, it works VERY well. Use the search people!

Before my LS broke I had a Ace #49 and the stock spring and it was getting 60-70s. If that helps.

I would have posted the exact same if only I looked a little earlier. From what I've seen, Captain Slug prefers an ar-15 spring cut down to 4 3/4 inches, along with the longshot spring. That is what I'll be doing to my longshot once I can get ahold of that spring. There's a link to order it from an online store in the "Modifying a Longshot?" thread, I think. But beware, if you don't find a gun store around you that carries it, you'll end up paying twice as much for shipping the spring as the spring actually costs.
