As my colleague Groove put it two months ago, it's time to get outside and Nerf. Summer is THE time to get out there and enjoy the hobby; it's when many of us separate out the pretenders.

There is one war in particular that I would like to highlight for you all. As lame as it sounds, I'd like to drum up some publicity for the war I've been co-organizing for the last 7 years, Apocalypse. It is THE summer war on the East Coast. As of now, we have 5-6 Canadians, lead by Forsaken Angel, joining us. Forget a cross-country Nerf War, we have an International Nerf War on our hands. Last year's war had over 45 participants and had as many as three battles going on simultaneously. Not to mention the 20+ vs 20+ battles. It's one of two wars this community has where you will experience such a volume and a variety of players on one field. The location, Deal, has terrain ranging from wide open fields to wooded trails. You can expect rounds that vary from the team death match norm, and are intended to shake things up a bit.

If you can't make it to this, well no matter. Grab some guns, make some friends, and have Nerf wars in your backyard. Most of the people you see organizing wars that bring Nerfers from all over got their start in a backyard, basement, or park with their friends. Establishing a core group of Nerfers in your area is the best way to keep active in the hobby.

I'll also make another plug for the Summer Nerf War Schedule. It has wars from around the country listed (ie. Armageddon & SENO).

I feel like I shouldn't comment in this topic, because it basically says everything that needs to be said, but I just want to say how much I agree with what Shindig is saying.

I've noticed recently on the forums how a topic entitled "Wtb Or Wtt For Xbow Or +bow" will get 350+ reads and multiple replies while a topic such as this one will only be read a little over 100 times and not get any replies. I've been wanting to draw this to attention for a while now, but this was the first good oppurtunity.

Nerfing is comprised of two different parts: Modifying, and Warring. It seems that the vast majority of posts on this website are about the modifying aspect and that nerf wars are getting the short end of the stick. And if you look closely at things, it is because of the huge influx of new members on this website. If you were to make a chart of member numbers to whether that person posted more in the Nerf Wars forum or the Modifications forum, I am sure that you would see many more for nerf wars in the lower numbers, than in the higher member numbers. I am not just throwing that out there, I did do some minor research on the matter and my hypothesis was correct, the lower the number the more likely he has posted more in Nerf Wars.

I guess the only thing I am trying to say by writing all this is I, like Shindig and Groove, and I'm sure many more of the veterans of this website (for the record, I am not grouping myself with those people) would love to see more nerfing and less modding.

Like Shindig says, get a group of friends together to nerf with. That's how I did it. I took four mavericks to a lock-in at my church last year, all stock mind you, and I nerfed with a bunch of my friends all that night. They realized how cool they were, and later when I got a longshot, and we started to modify the guns all my friends wanted to play. I mean, many of your friends, I'm sure will think it is really stupid, many of mine still do, but here is the best recruiting technique: Leave one of your highly modified weapons on your bed when your friends come over, your friend will notice it and be like "Dude, what's this? You're hella lame", and you'll say, "Yeah I guess so, but let me see that for a sec." BAM! You shoot him in the chest, and when your testosterone filled num-nuts of a friend realizes that he just got a welt from a nerf gun, he will forever want to nerf with you.

So please, everyone on the Nerfhaven forums, you've never listened to me before but please listen to me this time because I am backed up by Shindig and Groove, go outside, and nerf.

Eh, I don't think that post counts have too much to do with whether a person contributes more to wars or tech. There may be some correlation, but it really comes down to what that person is here for. We're here to Nerf and have fun [though personally that means 3 great wars in a 4 week period].

Modding and wars don't have to be at odds with each other. Simply mod to fight. I don't find any joy in modifiying something or building something unless it can be debuted in my next outing. And don't tell me that modded guns don't have a place, just look at them all at our big wars hehe. Mods enhance Nerf wars naturally, they need not be discouraged except those with no practical or intended use. It's a recurring theme anyway, comes up every year - especially now, the prime time for major wars.

But whatever, everyone knows that the field of battle is where the fun is :P .

Sounds awesome. Some day I'll attend Apocalypse too, but for now I can't leave the country due to attending civilian service (see slavery for reference) until the end of 2008. Bummer.

Next time, I'll bring some friends from the Netherlands and Germany. Take it as a promise.
