Here's a pic of everyone you'll need to complete this mod, plus a Recon (not pictured).
PLEASE DONT POST UNTIL IT IS DONE. THERE WILL BE A 'FINAL PRODUCT' PICTURE AT THE END.
Specifics,
-4 ½” of ½” PVC
-1” PVC end cap
-Epoxy putty
Here’s an internal photo of the cut of stock.
Now, onto the mod. Unscrew it, and be sure to get these ones:
Bitch to open up, bitch to get back together. Internals.
Each side of the cocking handle is attached to the apropriate side of the shell, and are held on by screws which you can probably see in the picture. Now take out the bolt and bolt sled.
Cut at the line.
Now take your dremel/drill and drill out the ARs from the longer piece.
Cut a 1” piece of 17/32” brass, and begin sanding the AR-half until it fits. Goop it in.
Now sand out the other side, and then goop the whole thing together.
To make sure it’s going to work, try sliding it into an LS/Recon clip. If it slides without trouble it’ll do.
That piece of brass isn’t only acting as a pseudo-coupler, it will also help build up pressure if a dart gets pushed in. But we have to get the dart to push in far enough. Cut along the sharpie.
Doing this pushes the dart tooth down later, thus allowing the dart to be pushed that much further in. Sure, it’s not much, but it’s a plus. You could also cut further, but I’m not going to risk ruining the gun. After cutting:
Now lets start increasing power. First, wrap some e-tape around the plunger tube, as so (it should be fairly thick).
Then use an exacto knife to cut it down to 1/8”.
Go get the end cap. Putty in a ¾” brass stub (I used ½”). This isn’t completely necessary, but reduces the chances of the additional spring getting scrunched up if it’s small.
Now Get the black piece which when around the end of the gun, and your 1” PVC. Rough end of each up.
Stick the PVC onto the black piece with some putty. Avoid putting putty over the screw holes. IF you do get some over the screw holes drill it out carefully. This putty gets HARD really fast. It’s like rock after about 30 minutes. (Picture is with the end cap on).
Be sure to leave the hole the end clean of putty, if you have any inside it clean it out with an exacto knife.
Now grab your cut off stock and the end cap. Rough up the ends of each.
Now putty them together.
Let the putty dry, and then put the gun back together. While you’re replacing everything make sure to get this hole in the bolt sled on the spoke on the cocking handle.
Finished internals.
Looks pretty much the same on the outside as it did stock.
Now grab the black end piece with the PVC on it, and screw it onto the back. Try not to strip the screws, as that would make it impossible to open up again (without drilling them out, which would render the stock mod useless).
Now all you have to do is place a spring in the back and put the end cap on (the stock part). Depending on the strength of your spring you might need to glue the end cap on, which you probably should anyways. I haven’t glued it on just yet, incase I decide to make it removable etc.
A picture with a variety of springs. I’m using the largest one, which I found on a windowsill at the vets’. It’s pretty strong, and you have to compress it a good three inches to fit it inside the stock.
Finished product. Don’t worry, the duct tape isn’t permanent, just until I know which spring I want exactly, or get some industrial strength Velcro to make it removable. I’ve only had it pop off once, but I don’t want it to do that in a war. It’s going to get a PJ sometime, and more cosmetic work. I’ll post and major updates as they come.
I’m convinced that Hasbro designed this just so it couldn’t be modified well. I fired off two clips, and they all went around 40-45’. A good dart sometimes landed at 50’. With the dart tooth mod it’s gotten more reliable, and with chubbier darts it shoots farther more consistently. I haven’t tried with streamlines yet, but when I do I’ll post those ranges.
So it doesn’t look like it’s ever going to be a good primary. I’ve done literally everything I can think of. I do, however, have to say that for indoor wars this gun could be good. It shoots at a wall 25’ away with considerable force, fast enough to make it hard to dodge.

Thank you. If everyone does something small to make this gun better, I'm sure the NIC can make it a decent primary.Well Done. I think we're making progress.
you mod whore...
Great Job. You're really on a roll!
Is it hard to cock with all those springs in it?
Thanks . It actually isn't, which is why I chose the long spring I have. With a TTG spring it's slightly harder, but doesn't add much range. With a ex-3 NF spring it should be relatively easy to cock. Oh, I think I get what you mean. Those aren't all in there, they're just size comparisons and examples of what could be in there... Should've clarified that.

I finally got around to picking up a Recon yesterday, so I figure I'd share a few of my ideas for modding it as well. The case itself is big enough, and the slide has enough of a "pull" to actually integrate a full NF plunger into it. Coupled with something similar to an Angel bolt, I think the Recon might be able to become a rather potent sidearm. However, I've also found that the Recon might be able to accept an even larger plunger; the pull on an NF actually seems to be less than how far the slide moves on the Recon. However, I don't have any of my other springers on me, so I'm not sure of the draw lengths of the various other possible replacements. If anyone knows of a springer with a draw of around 3", know that it might work well with the Recon. Also, the slide could be extended back using fiberglass to engage the plunger from the back end, instead of the current method of the bolt itself pushing the plunger back.
Sadly, I can't think of a whole lot else that could make this gun more usable, other than using a larger diameter homemade plunger, using a similar type of system mentioned above.

I don't feel the way I used to do.
I know its bad,
After what we had,
But I’m just not the angel you knew.

Impressive! Nice to see more progress on the addition of a spring, while helping stabilize the stock. Also, nice to see something other than hot glue.

I know someone did integrate an NF into one of these... I can't remember who though. I'll find a link. But yes, if it had a substantial plunger it could be a good secondary/sidearm, albeit a bit bulky.
Forsaken, thank you. You can expect 1-2 more write-ups this weekend .

Talk about short, sweet, and to the point...Good form!
I really liked this mod. If only I had access to brass, and if only my Recon was'nt in my blaster graveyard... My recon is having a funeral this thursday if anyone would like to come... But man, you are really on a roll, you really have a chance at becoming the one of the new contributors. And, instead of an NF spring in the PVC stock, put an AR 15 recoil spring in there, it is stronger, and I think it might give you a few more feet in range. I am pretty sure that is the type of spring DecitefulSteve used in his spring-in-the-stock mod.
It's not like that. I put lube on it and its the same. Its just stuck. And when I cock it back it goes farther back then usual. Also I push as hard as I can and it wont go back in. I've tried the methods and they wont work. Also pics are up.

A stronger spring would definitely help range. I'm using something thats slightly weaker than an Ar-15 spring, and I like that it's easier to cock. But yes, it would add some more range. Thanks, btw.Talk about short, sweet, and to the point...Good form!

If memory serves me the person that made the NF/recon actually had to cut and bondo the shell with part of the NF shell. I don't remember how I turned out though. I really hope ompa can make a good solution to the plunger, because it is the part holding back the recon. Good luck ompa!

I consider my Recon my secondary actually. I have a single shot NFbow that i'm working on for my Primary "range" gun, then the Recon for RoF mid range and eventually i'll remake another singled cutdown NF for the pistol slot. If the Maverick was smaller I'd honestly select it for pistol because of it's RoF, but it's so damn bulky.

Carbon uses a similar method to keep his SNAPs together.
EDIT: Also, your screws don't have to go very deep, so you don't have to worry about the screws affecting the spring. Great mod, by the way! I have yet to buy the Recon, so I can't say much about the mod itself.

donz, I just took out the AR the way I did because of the brass part. A bit more efficient.
Green, thank you.
Frost, thank you for that idea. I was contemplating using industrial strength velcro, but I'll look into that alternative. Thank you btw.

Trust me that is not going to hold. I can't even get it to hold the plates on my Jango Fett armor for very long.
Good job with the throwing together of all the mods out there for this gun.

I used it to attach my TTG to my 3k. Ask BG guy (Skitzo's friend). I was shaking that thing like crazy and it barely moved.
What are you using the velcro for? I didn't see it.

Nice alternate on the stock. I actually really like the coupler attachment, and I honestly never thought about attaching the extra spring tube directly to the pistol. I like that I can take mine all the way off though in case i needed a more "stock" pistol.

Thank you. The stock mod is the best thing that every happened to the Recon, kudos to you.
I recently followed through with my velcro idea:
2 strips for 1.79... Not bad. They have adhesive strips on the back, so I just stuck the loop side onto the piping.
Then I cut the hook strips in half, and covered the adhesive side with e-tape.
Then you just pop the spring in, twist the coupler on and add the velcro! It holds very well.
There you go!
I'll update this again when I paint it.

You did a lot of work. I only did a basic AR removal, and mine gets 40-45 feet.
He's been dealt with already. Let this die.
