Hey, ofall, I am doing this mod, and I wrapped the smallest amount of e-tape possible around the CPVC, and I cannot get it to go in smoothly but snugly at the same time. Can I just put one end in w/o the e-tape and still get similar ranges?

It's not like that. I put lube on it and its the same. Its just stuck. And when I cock it back it goes farther back then usual. Also I push as hard as I can and it wont go back in. I've tried the methods and they wont work. Also pics are up.

I have to remod the SF now. Next time can you not keep a secret and laugh at us when we don't find out what to do.

I could not RE mod my SF. I did score a good kill with it. Envy got ninja killed with it. Too bad he barely felt it. Someone had to verify that the STEFAN hit him. Funny and sad.

Sorry about that, I was on my phone last time and couldn't post very much without annoyance and I missed your post. To answer your question, I believe you could. I know some CPVC is slightly larger in OD, and some is smaller. Or your chamber is just different. If you do do this, try putting a small amount of o-ring lubricant (the jelly stuff) to help make a little bit better seal. If you don't have access to it, then just go ahead and try putting it in without e-tape. If it really is snug, it should work well.

Buck: Thanks. I don't mind at all :P.

Silencer: Thanks. You can also get them as one of the Tech Target versions for ~$15.

Okay, thanks. I tried lubing it up and it still was too big, and I even sanded out the chamber and the CPVC a bit, and it still would'nt fit, but ya, I'll just do the regular lubed CPVC. And I said this earlier in the topic, but you can get a scout and a titan both blue, for $20 @ target. (In a set)

So, what? About 40 feet for ranges? In my opinion, i would rather go with a night finder. It could be that i hate guns with slides and reverse plungers. But, you made it work well, decent ranges, easier to do, and a dab of innuendo. Nice mod. :P

Hey Ofall, I did this with PETG.

It worked, but only when I lubed it a lot. with a normal stefan, it had to be pretty loose to get 15 feet.

The mods great, but the gun not so much.

Try teflon tape. I was building up an o-ring and I couldn't fit it in th plunger tube with one more layer of e-tape, so I put on like five wraps of teflon tape and it worked great.

What is teflon tape, and where can I find it? How much tack does it have/ How well does it hold? Hmm.. I wonder if packing tape will work, or is teflon tape packing tape?

Teflon tape can be found at Lowe's, Home Depot, or your local hardware store. It's going to be in the plumbing section, as it is used to seal the threads on threaded piping. It usually costs about a dollar for a roll. As for tack -- none, really. It's not sticky at all; however, it will stick to itself fairly well.

Anyways, I know the nut helps, take for example the +bow. It has three cocking notches, each gets a different range by compressing the spring at different forces. If you pulled the plunger rod of an NF an inch and let it go, would it go as far as when you cock it and shoot? No. Refer to Quillan's equation.

Hope this helps everyone in the future (I wish I didn't kill both my Crossfires for the springs...)!

Um, the examples you quoted gain a range increase because the further back you pull the plunger on both guns, the more air you have in the plunger to push the dart out with. Less pull on the plungers, less air you have to push out, less range. It's less to do with the spring than the amount of air you have available to power the shot with. Which is why adding the nut or pennies to the back only makes a minimal increase in strength:

The amount of air is always going to be the same in the plunger!

No matter how much more compressed your spring is, it has a limited travel distance because of the constraints of the plunger size. So at most, your spring will push at the same strength throughout the stroke of the plunger as you pull the trigger. It doesn't make your spring any stronger than it is, which is why there's no alternative to a good spring replacement.

Go grab a spring. Now try to compress it to 1". Then try compressing it to 1/2". Does it get harder? Yes it does. Now does it bounce back harder when you compress it to 1/2" than 1" Yes, it does. I know my analogy was rather stupid and honestly I don't know what I was thinking. If you don't believe me, then that's fine. All I know is I got a consistent 3-5' more using the nut (and the same darts).

Now can we stop arguing about nuts already?...

GeurillaMan557, yeah, it's pretty easy. I think it's the easiest mod for reverse-plunger guns. Good luck!

The spring will bounce back harder because it has that extra distance to travel in a free space. It doesn't have this free space when inside the gun's mechanism; it is constrained by the plunger travel distance and other parts of the gun's mechanism, which I noted in my post earlier. Now to make it fair, you should compare a spring that has been cut down a little and fully compressed to a spring that is stock and is not fully compressed.

As Splitlip said:

Force from a spring = spring constant * distance compressed

Since the distance compressed is essentially the same (because of the plunger's space constraints), it will output the same force. That extra 1/2" of force is wasted pushing the plunger hard against the pvc rather than pushing the plunger further another 1/2" giving you another 1/2" of air to power the dart with.

It keeps the darts far enough out that you can grab them, because without the foam, the darts would slip all the way into the gun.

And try not to post in old topics. It's in the Code of Conduct

Sorry if this is really late, but I just have to say that this mod works very well in a strikefire, or crossfire. Just add a coupler to the tip and glue it on the front. Very good crossfire in the end!
