It's like a nitefinder, with a side of awesome.

It's a bit BETA at the moment, but I will provide pictures and a short description.

The back half (obviously) is a nitefinder, the front is a Recon. The internals have taken me a week to re-work, and they're still about 1/4 inch off, but I'll fix that tomorrow. The spring in it is about half of an AR-15 spring, and it works quite well. I still need to fix the internals, and then finish the bondo-ing to make it look nice, sand and paint.

Let me know what you guys think, and if you want a write up.

So... you cock it with the recon slider? It's an NF with a clip?
That's pretty cool.

If that's not the case, just attach the slider to the NF cocker.

you can cock it with either, but the breech only opens if you use the recon slider. In order to accomodate the way it works, that pull ring has to be on there. it's a little odd. Please though, more critisism. I want the gun to be in perfect working order for a war I have next week.

Looks very very front-heavy to me. I'd add some weight to the back, but then again I'm not the one using it.

Nice work.

Ring? I don't see a ring...

As long as you can cock and reload with the recon slider, that's a shiz gun.
And by shiz, I mean, "the shiz..." nice work. No further suggestions, except maybe with the aesthetics...

Well, as a former engineering student, I don't have much to offer without internal pics.

A write up is in the works, but it may take a little while, like till the end of the week. I have to cuz back on the amount of modding and stuff i'm doing, because of school, and because my roommate has begun to complain. But fear not, it will be here.

The only thing you guys may take issue with is the way the plunger tube and breech are done. It's modeled of a longshot, so that the breech pushes the plunger back to cock it as it opens. I couldn't figure out a good way to do it, so it's not exactly the best as far as ait-tight seals goes.

Either way, I hope to have the write up by next sunday.

Wait does it shoot with the nightfinder or the recon. If it shoots with the nightfinder thats pretty sweet.

Ummm... then what would be the point of glueing a NF to a RC?

To use the strength of the NF combined with the clippage of the recon.

Looks pretty nice. With some more body work and a paintjob it could be very lethal.

Did you elongate the plunger road in any way? It looks longer than I remember mine being.

I think you already said this, but if you're doing it the way I think you're doing it, you're going to have to worry about the seal. But I can't really comment without internal pics.

Here's the way it ended up. I'll have ranges and such after I'm done with the final sanding, and the clear coat of sealant. Preliminaries suggest that with the current spring, it'll get about 60'.

Nice job. I was trying something like this when I got my Recon. The only thing I did different from you was that I tried that make the NF's internals go into the Recon. After seeing this I might try that idea again.

Ok, I have internal pictures up, and am now fielding questions about it.

Given the nature of the two guns, (one opens with the internals on one side, and one on the other.), it's very finiky to put together. The internals are all aligned so that they are on the same side as the nightfinder as it hold the majority of the parts. With out further adieu.... Dysnomia, spirit of lawlessness, daughter of Eris, goddess of chaos.

This is a shot of the all the internals, minus the muzzle and dart tooth, as they are on the other half of the shell. You can see the extended plunger tube, and the re-purposed barrel/ breech.

Posted Image

It's blurry, but you can sort of see how the breech was re-purposed. I cut off the original breech/ barrel, and some of the wider part of the inside, just behind the o-ring. Those were bonded together, and then I added a larger o-ring, and some e-tape. It makes a perfect seal, and it's easy to lube. All in all, not the *optimal* solution, but a solution none the less.

Posted Image

Here is an image of the extended plunger tube. To do this, I stuffed a large spring into the two halves, so they were flush and then used a solvent adhesive. When it dried, I epoxied on the outside of the tube. Through all of this, there were multiple checks to make sure that the transition area was as seamless as possible. Again, it works quite well.

Posted Image

The bolt sled does need to be cut in order to accommodate the lack of the back half of the Recon. It's a simple cut really.

Posted Image

To elminate dead space, the plunger head sits flush with the end of the tube, and when inserted, the end of the barrel/ breech. It does this by means of a longer spring. It has, I want to say, about half of an ar-15 spring in it, but I got the spring pre-cut from a friend, so it may be closer to 1/3 or even 1/4.

Posted Image

All of the gray stuff seen in the pictures is Bondo. That stuff is amazing, and thanks to FA_24 for the inspiration to use it. Also, this whole endevor took a considerable amount of time and energy. To fuel it all, you'll need something like....

Posted Image

(no idea where the hell we got that stuff, it tastes like skittles....)

So, that's it. Questions? Comments? Suggestions?

Nice Job! I think the finished product really looks awesome.

Two questions:

Can you still fit the front "barrel extension" piece on the gun? and if so, how does it look?

How comfortable is it to hold? It seems like it would be a little front heavy to hold with one hand, but it also doesn't look like there is a comfortable way to hold it two handed.

As top heavy as it may look, the bondo in the middle adds enough weight to make it comfortable. The front extension will still go on, and looks like just you'd imagine: Ugly.

Wow! That is amazing. Very clever. What kind of paint did you use? I have some krylon vinyl paint that works great, but it doesn't give that kind of almost rugged look. I love that.

It's not like that. I put lube on it and its the same. Its just stuck. And when I cock it back it goes farther back then usual. Also I push as hard as I can and it wont go back in. I've tried the methods and they wont work. Also pics are up.

It's road striping paint. It's designed to be used on blacktop, and never come off....

The plunger looks thinner though...

How well is Bondo for using as an adhesive?

I like it, but I would never do it to mine because Its too much work for too little ranges. What spring did you use though?

How does the cocking mechanism work? do you need to pull back both gun's primers or just one of them?

you cock it with the recon slide. Also, the ranges are low because of the test spring I used. It can handle a handyman. I'm going to upgrade it as soon as I get the inspiration to open it back up.

Awesome mod, but I can't exactly figure out what you did from the pictures. Are there more coming, just out of curiousity? I've been working out a similar concept, but something that is totally contained in the Recon casing, wanted to use this for inspiration.

I looked at putting it all in the recon casing, but there's just no way to make it work. It's designed for one thing, and one thing only.

Did you have a specific question? I don't have more pictures, but I could answer a question, or clarify where you need insight.
