Well usually for friends it's a 1/2 split between people that think it is dumb and people that think it's cool. But once you show them a gun and how cool it is they really like it. Thats how I got a few people into nerf. My mom doesn't really care about nerf but if she sees one at Good Will or a garage sale she will get it. My dad likes nerf. He helps me on mods sometimes he even gives me some cool suggestions. And my cousins don't care. But when I told them about nerf they said they had a gun and it was a SF. They will be giving it to me next time they see me. Which is most likely going to be Christmas. And my Grandma is pretty supportive. She goes to allot of garage sales and good wills every day. She even got me a X-bow once. But she almost didn't get it because it didn't have the bow attachment and she thought that that was how it fired. But my mom said that I could probably fix it so she got it.

I guess you have some heavy duty industrial strength toilet paper holders. Do they advise you to wear eye protection when changing rolls?

You'd better kiss the ground your mom and grandma walk on. No, seriously.

My parents (and other adult family) are fine with Nerf. Otherwise, I've only really told three people.

My younger brother is into Nerf, but not as much as I am.

I showed a standard-modded NF and AR-removed SMDTG, plus Bolt's homemades and The Eyes of Fire to a college buddy...he thinks it's pretty cool, but I suppose he's not really into it. Too bad...he's pretty good at laser tag (according to him) and athletic (unlike me), so at least some of that skill would probably carry over.

I also told my cousin (who is a few years older) about Nerf on Thanksgiving; what brought it up is that we were talking about some Zombie-related activities he was considering up at his school and I suggested HvZ. It really wouldn't be a bad idea, considering there is already a group of nerfers at his school. He thought it was cool, but haven't talked to him since then so I don't know what, if anything, he decided.

So, my score:
-Genuinely interested---1 (my brother)
-Fine with it-------------->2 (parents and other family)
-"Meh"-------------------1 (my friend)
-I don't know------------1 (my cousin)
-Totally against---------0

It could be worse, I suppose...could be a lot better, though.

My parents both think that Nerf is a great hobby for me to get into, it helps me explore my mechanical creativity without wasting hundreds of dollars each time I buy something new to try. My younger sister thinks I'm a loser and that I have no life, but she is the kind of girl that watches MTV on the idiot box all day long. However my older sister (senior in college) thinks its a pretty cool hobby and a great way to meet new people, especially when I go to college next year.

I've been in and out of Nerf for the past few years, but now that I found the Haven I think I am in for the long run (life). My friends have always thought the blasters were cool and always enjoy shooting each other while still keeping it safe. But when I tell people at school about my hobby they always give me that weird look. Something along the lines of "Those plastic toy guns?", I respond with a "Hell yes!"

What does it matter what other people think?

Just get out there and have a good time nerfing. If they want to play, that's great, if they think it's dumb, that's their loss.

As long as the nerfers have eye protection and i use safety darts, my parents are fine with it.

My friend Nick is afraid of my guns. But, probably because my LBB shoots metal balls. <_<

My friend Robby might get into it. Of course, only if modded does he even CONSIDER taking it seriously.

Everyone else is either OK with it or think its stupid. If they think it is stupid, or it is only for babies, i shoot them with a NF with uncovered weights.

Alot of my friends think it's stupid, until I hit them in the temple with a singled, brassed AT2K.

But seriously, I show all my friends FA24's and Boltsnipers work, and they usually lay off.

Everyone I know thinks it's cool, or if they don't, they don't say so. I got an LS for my birthday from family so that's good.

WHOOSH!"AGH!" Now he doesn't.

No. Its some kind of Magnetics metal ball things i got from my German Grandma. Plus, there are these holes were you screw in plastic rods. I connect 3, and the thing gets recoil! Can anyone explain that?

Dark Shrimp: Well, you joined at 13, and i assumed you were modding. How do they not know? Do they know you are posting as Dark Shrimp yet you often exclaim "I LIKE TURLES"?

PS: Is it supposed to sound like your mildly retarded when you say that?

EDIT:

Plus, there are these holes were you screw in plastic rods.

Hehehe. That was seriously unintentional.

My mom and dad thinks its cool, and my dad would really get into it if he had the time. My mom doesn't really like it. Shes trying to relive her childhood dream through her daughter. *cheerleading*

A couple of my friends thinks its cool, but everyone airsofts, so I'm beginning to get into that.

Keef, do you ever get the feel that the other guys at your school think that airsoft is a manly sport and that Nerf is just childish? Because around here some guys are like,"I play paintball" and their tone of voice is like, "I just saved a life"

Noone in my life is really against it...they are more wary of the fact that im a member of a Nerf forum than that I actually Nerf.

I imagine this is a problem with a lot of younger nerfers. When "Nerfing" went from the occasional trip to Home Depot to wanting to attend a war like DCNO, they got a little more apprehensive. It just appears to them like I am "going to hang out with people I met over the internet" but it obviously doesnt deserve those negative sounding connotations. How do you guys deal with that?

I did join at a young age and I did mod and my parents found out. They were totally pissed at me and threw out all of my guns. They also refused to let me visit nerf haven. I wanted to get back into the sport but I knew my parents would never allow it. So I've been doing all of my moddin in secret. If you skim through my posts you can see that I stopped posting in '03 and started posting again in '05.

My parents think it's dumb as hell, so they won't buy me anything nerf related, but their fine with me wasting my money on nerf stuff so it's ok. My cousins love it and play when ever their over, and their all around my age. My uncles are all kids at heart, and love the mechanicle aspect of modding, so they think it's great. Their wives think it's funny to watch grown men play with childrens toys. I'd say about 7 of my close friends know about, and love my nerfing hobby, they pay me to mod guns for them and make their stefans, and a war usualy breaks out at my house every time their here.

It's something I dont tell alot of people about mostly because of the lengthy explaition that always follows when you do. I'm sure you've been through that before.

Someone posted earlier about being in nerf for life, and personaly I can't wait till we're all nerfing in the retirement home, because i think it's gunna be funny as hell.

Edit: Is it just me or did it take any one else a long time to figure out you could shoot each other with nerf guns when you were realy little.

Well, my parent's are just glad that I got a hobby, but my friends are going through this "airsoft is manlier" phase. The thing is, I have more manliness in my bigtoe just because I can modify my guns. The best they can do is pretend their video games are real.

most all my friends think its gay, I am also one of the most popular kids in my school so I think it would be better to keep it a secret because if you think about it for a minute we are shooting foammy projectiles at each other and thats a ittle weird but I will never totally give up on nerf. But some kid that I got in a fight with two days ago came to my door and I told him to wait a second, then I brought out my singled titan(that can shoot threw an inch of cardboard) and shot him in the chest, now everybody that heard about this is scared of my nerf guns. As for my mom, I showed her my titan yesterday and how I made this whole breech and crayola clip system, well now she thinks Im going to be a great engineer or something which I would say she wants me to stay into the nerf scene. So all together Im bringing nerf into my school and area, I would say thats pretty cool.

rokor- I'm in the same boat as you on this one, that's another reason I don't tell many people about nerf.

In highschool I can be known as one of the following:

The only freshman on the best varsity hockey team in the league, and a generaly popular kid,
or...
The fifteen year old who obsessivly plays with toy guns, and frequntly discusses them with 30 year old men on the internet.

so the first one is the obvious choice there.

My parents think kind of neutral about it, they are not aginst it, but they don't like[font=Impact][size=4] it. I mean, I have terrets, and a hot glue fumes are a trigger for me, so they dont like me working with chemicals. And yes, make fun of my terrets. And by the way, it isnt like I randomly shout out curse words like everyone thinks terrets is. <_< I always used to get made fun of at school, so now I am homeschooled. Everyones happy! -_- Sorry for the life story guys.

Well, a couple of my friends that have 1 or 2 nerf guns themselves, of couse they dont mod them or do a whole lot with them. They think it is pretty cool, because most of them like airsoft too which probably has something to do with it. My parents think it is incredibly stupid, and have only bought me a few very cheap nerf related things, if I think of a good reason why. They get mad even if I buy stuff with my own money! They dont worry about the violence part of it or anything, they just think it is stupid. They think I have too many guns. I really have like 5 that i could actually use, and about 5-7 more that are total garbage. The only reason I keep them is I dont want to take the time to sell them, and as an extreme backup.

I'm not dissing you here or anything, but why would you care what other people think? If they make fun of you just because you like something it just means that they are not mature at all. Just brush it off. Thats just my two cents.
