I got really bored today, so I made three pumpkins. Sadly only one of them has to do with Nerf, and the Jack Sparrow one was a request from my sister. Anyone else have any cool ones?

Not nearly as impressive as those, but I had fun with mine this year. I incorporated baby cut carrots to good effect.

The fun thing is that as the carrots dry out, the teeth get even better looking.

Just because you can't see me doesn't mean I'm not there.

Well to start off the light that is inside of the pumpkins is a car light used for auto maintenance, so its really bright. The other thing is, I didn't actually cut out anything all the way through the pumpkin. Its a technique called scratching/scraping. People use it to give pumpkins a different color, or to create shading effects.

Links to my favorite website (besides this one)
Colored LEDs in Pumpkins
Scraping Method

The second one is basically what I did, but with more than one layer of shading. But I think the reason mine are so red/orange is because the light I used inside isn't a candle, its a 15watt bulb. Hence the chord sticking out of the top of the pumpkins in the pictures. The Red color seems to come from my camera, in reality they are more of a dark orange. The 5 year old digital camera doesn't do so well in the dark. And you can see pictures of them not in the dark on my photobucket.

Thanks for the complement, hope this helps.

Edit: Cool idea on using other materials on the pumpkin Carbon. Did you just wedge them in the side of the mouth or did you glue/stick em' in there somehow?

A combination of gouging a hole and toothpicks. I've used red peppers for tongues, too.

Scraped pumpkins have always really impressed me, for the amount of control you can have with light and shading. Any special tools or knives you use, axelion?

I read about a Cylon Centurion jack-o-lantern using LED's. It was pretty slick.

I really like the NERF one though!

Everyone: Thanks for the compliments, hopefully they don't turn to smushy goosh in a few days, I wouldn't mind having these around for a while.

Carbon: Yeah, Ive had my fill of carving for the year. But the tool I used my mom just picked up at the supermarket. Its only my second year of doing the scratching/scraping technique, so I'm just getting started.

Here is the tool 4 in 1 carving tool, I used that for everything.

Frost: Man that cylon pumpkin is cool, I plan on doing something with LEDs next year, regular candles just aren't bright enough. Or ridiculously awesome enough.

My amateur attempt at Chuck Norris last year.
Posted Image

I just tried my hand at scraping this year. Nothing too large scale, just the eclipse design from Heroes.

2 more pumpkins to go so We'll see what happens.

I had eight inch flames shooting out of the top of mine. I may get pictures up later.

I basically used a coke can full of used motor oil, and used rags as wicks. It was really smoky and smelly, but it was pretty cool looking.

Alice came to the fork in the road.
"Which road do I take?" she asked.
"Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat.
"I don't know," Alice answered.
"Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."
