Steveep: Well for those that have not found a primary, they may use to this, but many of people have already chosen a primary, and a very comfortable with it. I think that it is more about being comfortable with a gun and knowing how to use it. As long as you have at least a decent rate of fire, like you would get with a coupler mod, you should stand a chance. You have to use the the advantages of your gun. So with your BBB, assuming it is similar to other modded BBBs, you have a decent rate of fire, and it's accurate at around 70' so you'll just have to get a little closer and be "on" with your shots.
Kuhlschrank: I agree

Well said, both of you. It is all about being comfortable with your gun , having a gun to better fill your objectives, and having a gun to suit your personal choice. One point I am trying to make is that all guns have their disadvantages. For example, while the the Longshot has everything everyone wants out of a gun, it is very cumbersome, and could end up being very tiring to carry around during a war. And while the Crossbow is very accurate and has excellent range, the poor rate of fire can end up getting the user pumped full of foam. And as Sam said, use the advantages of your gun as well. So their will always be someone using a brassed AT3K instead of a Longshot, as they are more comfortable with it, and it better suits their needs and personal choice.

I have not modded my Longshot yet, However, I have tested it with 3" stefans. (not the CDTS's, FBR stefans)

They load just fine, do not jam, and fire like a normal dart (much lower range tho). This is Completely Unmodded Mind you. Nothing Removed, Nothing added.

I'm planning on Taking out the Restrictor and Reinforcing the Plunger with another spring later tonight to increase performance. What i'm planing on doing, Taking a streched out and expanded NF spring, and putting it inside the Stock Spring. Than putting a Mav Spring inside that. Should give it a good amount of kick.

Just thought i'd throw that out there.

Mod-progress:

I added an o-ring to the plunger (I had added two, but one of the o-rings snapped over night, and they were such a pain to put on I figured I'd go ahead and trust one to do the job) and added a BBB spring to the existing LS spring.

Forgot to plug the hole in the barrel. 9,9

Put it all back together, and shot at the bathroom for awhile from across the basement. I'm lucky none of the darts ricocheted enough to end up in the toilet. x,x Serious power.

But there's a problem. With so much more tension in the system, it's now extremely hard to load and remove clips. The orange guide on the front of the plunger, which normally slips beneath the curved yellow shield on the top of the clip, no longer edges backward enough to let the clip slide in properly.

I think I'll try trimming that guide down next time I have it open, see if that takes care of it. Right now, you practically need three hands to force the bolt backwards while thumbing the clip-release and removing the clip. 9,9

I had the same problem. Dremeling back the guard will cure that.

Well, I'm quite suprised no one has posted replacement barrels yet. I did this a few days ago. It shoots my tagger, converted, and small 1/2" stefan darts quite well. The stefans fit in pretty loosely, but they shoot quite well. The seal is almost perfect now because I removed the tab that sticks up when the bolt is pushed forward and added a hot glue seal to the end of the bolt. She works great:

If you guys really want to see the internal pics, ask. It's just a pain taking out the 500 screws!

Is that PETG? How did you do it? Could you explain the Hot glue thingy a little more. Has range changed a lot?

I'm not sure if it was PETG, but I bet it was. It was a casing for a drill bit bought from fastenal. I'll get to posting pics right away. It may take an hour, though.

I'd really like to see how the hell you did that and how much the range has increased. Sorry to be demanding.

Thanks again Carrtoon.

I just got my Longshot a few minutes ago, and I wanted to ask a question.

What spring do you think I could use to get about 50 foot range out of it? I ask because I only have indoor wars and don't need my longshot to shoot 100 feet or anything right now, especially with the longest hallway here only being about 40 feet. Would a regular NiteFinder [v. 1] do the job?

If you remove the air restrictor in the back, you should be able to hit 50' flat with the stock spring. If you add NF springs, you may be disappointed. Not because of poor range, but because it makes a loud noise. This is because the NF spring is too short to reach all the way across the plunger rod. It makes an annoying ricocheting noise that made me take it out after a few shots. To answer your question, the stock spring should be beefy enough for 50'.

I was working on the barrel replacement pics, but the breech I made has grabbed my attention. I have a working clip and it works great on my crossbow. I should be able to get some pics tomorrow after work of the barrel replacement. Sorry for the wait...

Great mod carrton, this really helped me out with mine. Has anyone given any thought to sticking some 17/32 brass where the restrictor was and then nesting some 9/16 into the main barrel? I think it would make a pretty good seal and the foam nerf uses fits 17/32 pretty tight, which is what you want in a springer. It would a typical crossbow nesting set up. About 2 inches of 17/32 and about 8-12 of some 9/16. When I get my hands on a dremel and some more brass I'm going to give it a shot. I also need a 3b spring or something similar.

Another question. I know it sounds dumb, but after you set the trigger into the front gun, can you remove it again? Just wondering, cause I don't want to pull it out hard just to find out I wasn't supposed to.

Yes, it is removable. I took out all the screws and pulled the handle out of the pistol. I didn't try forcing it when the gun was screwed together, but I did get it out. Internal replacement barrel pics are on the way...

Ok, thanks for waiting. I've had lots on my mind and lots to do. I work 8 hours a day, helped my dad pack for Salt Lake City on Sunday, have to get ready for college in 2 weeks, and am leaving from Minnesota to California on Wednesday, so I've been really buisy. Sorry for the wait. Here are the barrel replacement pics:

The barrel is pushed to the bottom of the orange piece so the nub can be pushed into it also:

This is a hole that another orange piece went through to stop the dart from moving forward and it pushed the dart back near the plunger. This is a big place for air to escape, so I removed the orance piece and didn't cut a hole in the new replacement barrel:

Hot glue on the end of the plunger part of the breech to seal the dart better:

Underneath where the clip comes through (closed breech:)

Underneath where the clip comes through (open breech:)

And from above (open breech:)

This allows me to shoot my small 1/2" stefans, converted darts, or stock darts. The stefans fit in loosely, but really shoot hard. Questions?

So for those without PETG which would be better for a barrel replacement, PVC or Brass?

Thanks for proving that the thing CAN fire shorter stefans; I was actually a tad bit worried that it couldn't. Well, now I can lose yet another portion of my paycheck and buy this thing.

Those pictures were exactly what I was waiting for. More detail on the bolt was what I was waiting on, and that was perfect. Thanks again for the beautiful pictures.

Does this add any range, or just allow you to shoot stefans with the same range like if you were to shoot streamline darts or CDTS's?

SPU, brass would be better. You can't have a tight fit with the orange piece. It needs to be glued to the lower part of the orange piece. This is so the finger from the breech can still fit past it.

Ompa, no problem.

AODL, I'm really not sure. I haven't had time to do testing. It seems that the converted darts and the stock darts don't go as far, but stefans have a decent velocity. I'll try to get some vid of it firing before I leave for California.

Do you get over 100' now? Maybe you answered this question before(I didn't read through this whole topic), but did you fix the accuracy? If so, that would be great!

I added a spring to the longshot and cannot get it to stay cocked at all. Should I shorten the new spring, or remove the old one or dremel down the plunger rod catch?

The catch seems a little flimsy anyway, any ideas?

I am thinking your spring is too long. You definately need to shorten it. The reason it isn't catching is becuase the new spring is being coiled all the way but it is too long to catch. I hope that made sense. Just shorten the spring.

About the catch...Can't help you there.

It's actually shorter than the original spring, it's just that there's so much pressure now that I don't think the catch has any choice in the matter, it can't hold it cocked.

-----

I cut the spring to the nite finder length and it still won't cock. Now I will try using the original NF spring to supplement the LS.

-----

Seems to work out better. Ranges in about 12 hours

Carrtoon, I was wondering if it would be possible for you to crack open one of those magazines?
I'd like to see the type of spring and such with eyes.

And and also, out of curiosity, the distance from the magazine well to the front of the gun?

I know this is all asking so much but I would really, really appreciate all of it.
You've been a star.
