Okay. This gun is not completed yet. It's about 2/3 of the way done.
This is a homemade nerf pistol. But, it's not really a pistol.
It will have a clip in the front handle and a foldable stock (a la BBB).
Using ompa's clip, Bolt's GNS design, Flaming Hilt's variation Carbon's clothespin trigger(the extendable trigger), Angle's BBB breech, and Carbon's helpful advise, I present to the the SMG-R.
It looks like the SMG from Halo 2 and functions like a BBB. In order to cock the weapon, you pull the stock out. Fire. Then push the stock in to lock with the plunger and pull it out to cock it. Repeat.

Okay. Here's what's done so far.

Bullstock extended.

Posted Image
Bullstock depressed.

-Note: There is no shells. That is not an ejection port cut out of the side of the gun. I haven't been to Homie D lately and so I was obliged to use scrap pvc. The hole has nothing to do with the gun.

Side detail of the stock.

Plunger-
Posted Image
The plunger shaft is just some cpvc.
The real interesting part is the plunger head.
It is not just a 1/2" endcap with a groove cut into it for an o-ring. You see, my Home Depot doesn't supply me with endcaps with flat ends. They are rounded. These I cannot use for a plunger head due to the rounded edge.
But, what they do have are plugs.

Posted Image
The 1/2" plug fits into a 1/2" coupler. And an o-ring goes over the edge of the plug.

Posted Image

Posted Image
It's a #15 o-ring. Not like the #18 o-rings the Bolt uses in his homemades. But, mine fit none the less.

That's about all I have done so far. I will start on the fire control group next which includes the trigger and clothespin catch.

Okay, I'm going to try to explain the internal workings with this crude drawing in MS paint(not including fire control group/trigger mech).

Posted Image

The only pieces that don't move outer reciever(red), the barrel(pink), and the small coupler at the end of the outer reciever inside the stock(brown). That piece is what the spring depresses on.
The yellow piece is a coupler with e-tape around it and screwed into the stock it moves with the stock. When the trigger is depressed and the plunger hits home, this piece slides over the plunger shaft and catches in a hole drilled in the shaft, like Bolt's GNS.

If this doesn't make sense, tell me and I will try my best to explain it more throughly.

Let me know what you think.

Tips with the extendable trigger:
- Use something strong. After many failed attempts, I finally settled on 30 Lb. fishing line.
- Too tight will work, but too lose will not. I ended up tying the trigger end of the fishing line to the copper trigger inside of the trigger container and then pulling it forward some to get it in place. I think that had I not done that, it may not work as well as it does.
-Use something strong for the trigger. I used copper. You don't want your masterpiece bending or fracturing or breaking.

Anyways, now that's done with... good idea. I'm still not quite sure how you got the BBB-ness into it, but it looks cool and if it works, well... that's even cooler.

Keep the updates comin'. ;)

What is the outer receiver made out of?...

1 1/4" pvc.

...and why cant you use a rounded end cap?

Dunno. I never seen anyone successfully use one before.
I'm pretty sure it would work the same, though.
I'm just going with what Bolt has done.

Looking good. How is it going to be cocked? Any plans of doing a write-up?

Nice. Having never played Halo 2, or Halo, for that matter, I cannot comment on the authenticity of these designs, but very nice none-the-less.

Since the cockiing handle is also the buttstock, any ideas on putting a small fabric loop around it so you could cock it just with one arm?

I don't think I said that very well. let me try again: What you could do, is drill two holes through the buttstock, and put two D-Rings through there. Then, attach a piece of fabric that would loop around your arm. Then you could just push forward with your arm, the buttstock would stay anchored to your arm, via the loop of fabric, and the gun would cock. The, fire, and pull the gun back against your shoulder.

I hope that made sense.

Again, very nice, clean job on this. very cool looking.

Pat

I like that idea^ because you could get a nice rof. I like the plunger cap design with the plugs. It is really looking like the Halo 2 smg, which is cool. Nice work.

...why cant you use a rounded end cap?

A rounded endcap for a plunger head would cause the impact force to be focussed to a point, causeing a stress concentration and increasing the liklihood of failure. By using a flat plunger face you can distribute the impact load over the face of the plunger and minimize the chance of failure

Good work
Any hopes of seeing this as a proper smg?
Will it have a clip eventually?
I understand your still in construction but still just cant wait. I think ill try and make one with a couple variations to it. It just looks so "replica-ish" of the halo smg.

GOOD WORK!!!!

Time for an update! Yay!

Okay. First off, I finished the plunger.
I took ompa's advise of putting something in front of the o-ring to prevent it from coming off and I made the plunger head smaller to conserve weight.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

I also made part of the barrel. I say "part of" because I'm going to nest some brass inside of it. This is just the sheath or the outside od the barrel.

Posted Image

Posted Image

The barrel is screwed in place so that the stock can side over where the barrel begins.

And last but not least, I fabricated what I call "the yellow piece". It is not yellow. I call it that because it's the yellow piece in the picture I posted above explaining the internals.

Posted Image

Full assembled pics.
At rest:

Cocked:

Posted Image

Notice how the barrel doesn't move when the stock slides over it and back.

Here are some pics of what the stuff looks like on the inside.
At rest:

Posted Image

That's all for now, folks.
Next I'll be working on the trigger mech.

Now to answer some of your questions.

Will it have a clip eventually?

Yes, I plan to have an in-handle clip in the front handle.
It'll be a variation of ompa's pistol clip.

Since the cockiing handle is also the buttstock, any ideas on putting a small fabric loop around it so you could cock it just with one arm?

That's a very nice idea. I will definately look into it if I plan on making two of these to dual wield.

As for you not knowing what the Halo 2 SMG looks like.
Here is a small picture of what it looks like.

How is it going to be cocked? Any plans of doing a write-up?

Just think of a BBB. On a BBB, to cock it, you pull the rear handle back. Fire. Then push the handle back in to engage with the plunger and pull it back out.
Mine will be the same only you pull the stock out to cock it.

A write-up? Hm...
Maybe. If I can finish this without any major flaws, I might do a write-up.

Let me know what you think. :(

Finished the stock.
But, still working on the trigger mech. Little booger's harder to fabricate than I thought...

I've been waiting for you to post some updates, either here or on Boltsniper.com.

Anyways, looks wonderful! Great job on all the cutting and fitting, it looks extremely clean.

I eagerly await the completion of this gun, looks very promising.

Quick question.

Right now I've got the barrel at about 8"...
Is that too long?

The dart would rest at about 3" down the barrel due to the nature of the clip design.

Would the length of the barrel and the dart being so far down the barrel create a loss of max potential range?

That depends on how big the plunger is. I have a larger plunger than a BBB (larger diameter I believe, but same length) in the NEAR and the loss created isn't terrible (I'm getting 90' out of it). However, if you end up with something similar to the volume of a NF, then it's not going to work, like my first iteration of the clip-in-handle pistol.

When you say length, do you mean the length of the plunger stroke or the plunger itself?

Stroke. Sorry about that.

I'm assuming we're both using 1" thinwall as our chamber material. Now, I have used Crossbow and BBB springs in my homemades, and the results are as follows, using a clip system similar to yours;

Any stroke under 2" isn't going to make it out of the barrel.

Any stroke above 4" should net you decent results.

Yeah, I'm using the thin-walled 1" pvc for the chamber.

I've got around a 3" stroke with a LnL spring fully depressed...

I could go with a longer stroke, but, that would result in the overall gun being about an inch longer.

Hey, guys.
Sorry for the lack of updates... I've been real busy with school. Finals are coming up.
So, I expect to have the trigger done or almost done by this weekend or mid next week.
Thanks for all your patience

Hm...

I kinda forgot about this. After a while, I just slowly stopped working on it 'cause I was real busy with finals and I haven't really gotten back to it.
But, alas, I've already got something else up my sleeve that I've been working on these past couple of weeks.
So, I promise to get back to it when I'm done with my new project.

I like how the stock is used in the cocking mechanism. Thats a cool idea. I also think that it looks almsot exactly like the Halo 2 Smg. Can't wait till you finish it. Keep up the goodwork!

Yeah, this is a little old, but I thank you for bringing this up.

Ronster, hows the SMG coming btw?

I have realistic weapons like this one in paintball:

If I had the time and money, I would go for it.

I'am actually starting (slowly but surely) to work on this again.
I'm prooly gonna start over with a different, moore functional design.
Now that I've got more PVC and some lexan, I have more flexiblility.
I should have pictures of the new plunger this weekend if I can get out to buy just a few extra parts.
