Because I'm tired of waiting until May for a DC area war, and I wanted to try this place out as a potential war site.

Where:
Wheaton Park
2002 Shorefield Road
Wheaton, MD 20902

Wheaton is about 10 minutes outside Washington, DC, and about 30 minutes south of Baltimore.

The Shorefield area is the place with all of the picnic tables, the massive playground, and the famous train ride. It's walking distance from the Glenmont Metro station, and there are a lot of places to get food around as well. Even if the playground area is packed with kids, there should be plenty of areas for us to nerf.

Date:
April 3rd, 2010
10 AM 'til sundown.
I'll try to get a picnic table reserved ASAP.

Rules:
- No singled Titans, SM5Ks, Ultimators, XXL Bazookas, Jobars, or Cobras.
- No singled and plugged 4Bs, LBBs, SGSLs, Nat Geo guns, Roto Rockets, etc.
- No homemade air blasters or homemade air tanks.
- No exposed brass or aluminum barrels.
^^^ These are very important, as they are all for the safety of the players. Also if I feel anything else is a safety issue, I reserve the right to disallow it.

- Bring at least one "primary" and one sping-powered pistol. You might want to bring back-ups in the event something breaks.
- There may be some crazy rules in effect for several rounds, so bring some out-of-the-ordinary blasters if you can. Ballguns, stock missiles, arrows, megas, whatever.
- Barrel taps only count if the blaster is primed and loaded. Melee weapons count as barrel taps.
- Manta Ray shields (stock or fabricated), Crossfire shields, and Laser Fang wings count as shields. (Also if you can prove that Nerf intended for any other product to be used as a shield, it will be allowed as a shield.) Anything else will be counted as a hit. Blaster hits count as hits as well.

- Don't even bother showing up wearing camouflage and wielding blasters painted all black. You will be promptly asked to leave.
- Don't be a dick. Keep profanity to an absolute minimum, and throw your trash out. Really, just use common sense. Anyone showing signs of dickery will be promptly asked to leave.
- There are plenty of places to get food and drink within walking distance of the park, and there are a few vending machines here and there, so a bag lunch is recommended but not essential.

Put me down as a maybe. Unfortunately March is a little off my radar so I'm not confident either date is okay (but I can plan for it). I should post again about a week before the date with a more definite answer.

Edit: The earlier date would be preferable. Work accumulates with time... making it as early as is feasible seems best knowing that.

Sounds like fun, I got a bunch of stuff I want to test out.

I don't know about my timing as of yet, so I'll go in as a maybe.

Few questions.

Homemade meant only air powered, right? SNAP likes are good?

And what's the thought on melee?

I'm totally down for this!

I don't know my school schedule yet, so I can't say which date I would prefer, but I am so there!

Case-by-case basis on SNAPs... don't bring a singled SNAP XXL bazooka made of 3" PVC or something like that, but most SNAPs should be fine. +bows and most other homemade springers should also be fine.

Melee is like it was at Dart of War. The contact points must be padded in some form, and you must be able to take a whack from your own melee weapon full-force without crumpling to the ground in agony.

Ok, it's a SNAP pistol, and I think the rest is good.

Cool, I will hope to be there.

Sounds like fun, I may be down.

Do you have any pics of the area that you could post?

Either date works for me, go ahead and put me down as a maybe.

I'm a maybe for either date. I'll give a definite yes/no once we get closer. And maybe I'll bring someone along... we'll see.

That makes my decision of a date that much easier.

From the responses I've received, it seems that there wouldn't be any major objection to holding the war on the 13th, so I'll go ahead and tentatively set it for then.
