Those are both mine, I know they look similar to what other people have done.
The NF shoots about 80' and the Recon is stock minus the air restrictor.

I have used three different types of foam all of which got slightly bigger upon heating. I put my blanks in a pillow case in the dryer on high heat for 10 minutes and they come out very straight but slightly larger in diameter. I would recommend log home store foam it is good foam and not expensive and the stuff I have gotten from there did not shrink. My guess is that you got bad foam, maybe you got open cell instead of closed?

I know this probably gets asked a lot but where is a good place to get colored foam, something besides gray. I know log home store sells white and mile high sells black for cheap but are there other good online sites?
Where can I get good colored hot glue? (any color)

Thanks.

For what it is worth I find it helpful to melt a small hole in the end of my stefans.

#265375 Reverse Plunger Dead Space Killing Method

Posted by Roschili on 14 February 2010 - 04:38 PM in Modifications

That looks really good, I am going to try this on my Recon. Could you post a picture from the other side of the plunger so I can see how far in the foam goes, or could you tell me about how long you think the foam should be for a recon. Thanks!

#232228 Crayola Barrel Making - Full Write Up

Posted by Roschili on 24 May 2009 - 02:07 PM in Modifications

Very nice guide very helpful, but I found it was easier to use a Black & Decker Wizard(basically a dremel with a cutting wheel) instead of a hack saw to cut off the piece where the ink is. Great guide very detailed and good pictures.

#226402 Need Help Fixing My Recon

Posted by Roschili on 26 April 2009 - 09:28 PM in Modifications

My Recon is the only gun that I have never taken the internals out of, is it hard to put them back in? Also, when I paint I painted my Nite Finder I did not use primer I just used Krylon Fusion paint which is really good for plastic. I have not had any trouble with the paint coming off and it looks very nice.

Ok thanks, I'll try that out soon.

Posted by Roschili on 26 April 2009 - 09:44 PM in Modifications

Thanks. Yes, I think Krylon Fusion works very well, I used two coats and it looked really good and I have not had any problems with it wearing off. Krylon Fusion also works really well on PVC parts, my brother made a PVC t-shirt cannon and painted it with Krylon Fusion and the paint looks brand new. Do i need to take the barrel apart to paint it?

#220197 Need Help Fixing My Recon

Posted by Roschili on 27 March 2009 - 07:56 PM in Modifications

Hey, I recently modded my Nerf Recon CS-6 and it worked well for awhile then part of it broke on the slider. The orange end piece popped off and the gun will not shoot without it. I tried super gluing the piece back on and model gluing it. Both only worked for about 10 shots before it popped off again. Refer to the pictures below to see what piece I am talking about if you are confused, I am not sure what its called so I named it the slider

If you have any suggestions about how I could fix it, that would be great. If you know of something I can use to replace the piece that works too. Thanks for reading!

The little orange circle piece in the first picture is the piece that popped off of the end that needs to be put back on in order for the gun to operate.

Thanks for looking.

Ok, I have yet another question about my recon. For painting it what is the best way to do that if I want to paint the whole thing, can I just spray paint it as is, or do I need to take it apart and remove the internals? Thanks to whoever has an answer. :P

Is there anyway to make a recon shoot all types of darts without doing a barrel replacement?

#232603 Need Help Fixing My Recon

Posted by Roschili on 26 May 2009 - 10:03 AM in Modifications

If you open up your gun, just underneath the barrel there is a plastic column with a spring on the end. Thats the bit you want out. To do that you'll need to unscrew the piece holding it in, just to the left, and unscrew and remove the barrel. Then it will simply slide out.
Remember that I'm not guaranteeing this will work! :P

It is still worth a try :P

The dart tooth is the piece that sticks up through the barrel when the bolt is anything other than fully forward. Look down the barrel and pull the slide back slightly - remove that bit.

Oh Ok, how do I get that piece out?

#232598 Need Help Fixing My Recon

Posted by Roschili on 26 May 2009 - 09:30 AM in Modifications

I've heard that by simply removing the barrel tooth may let you do this, however I haven't tried it so I can't say for certain.

If I did that would the gun still work? Also I assume that is the long piece on the top of the plunger that juts out?

#225890 Need Help Fixing My Recon

Posted by Roschili on 25 April 2009 - 07:25 PM in Modifications

I got a new piece from diamond and I fixed my gun so it shoots now, but I have run into another problem. When I load the clip and stick it in the gun I can cock it once and shoot it but after that the gun will not cock again. Also when I put the clip in it will not come out unless I take the gun apart and pull the clip off. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks

And one other thing not relating to my recon, is the nerf eliminator IX-1 the same or better than a nerf attack unit?

Is the barrel hard to take apart or put back together? Thanks.

$50 in aus? 20 in usa.

The Wal-Mart where I live sells them for $14.99.

Thanks King that worked, I now feel stupid because I couldn't fix it by myself... thank you though.

Are you sure plumbers goop will work better than model glue or super glue? I was thinking about model gluing it back on then putting tape on the outside to ensure that it says in tact.

Zap a gap glue will fix anything, or you could fill in the void with hot glue or epoxy putty.

so are you saying to hot glue the piece back on
-or-
to fill the end of the tube with putty?

#220278 Effective Maverick Stefans?

Posted by Roschili on 28 March 2009 - 12:03 PM in Homemades

Ok guys thanks for your help, I went and made a few darts and came out with something that worked very good with the maverick and excellent with my modded nite finder. I used a 2.5'' piece of fbr and a .12g plastic BB. It flies great, once again thank you for posting your suggestions.

I used big scissors? And my pocket knife didn't do a good job but I did find a knife that works really good.

#220281 Effective Maverick Stefans?

Posted by Roschili on 28 March 2009 - 12:14 PM in Homemades

Hey, I find that with the maverick, its not about the weight of the dart, but the length of the dart. I find that 1" stefans fire great in mavs. In fact I've seen 1" stefs shoot farther than any stock dart in the maverick. Give it a try.

Well I have made several different sizes of maverick darts, the smallest being 1.5'' and I made those three different ways: with a 3/0 fishing weight, one .12g BB, and finally one with two .12g BBs. I found that the shorter the dart is the less distance it gets in a maverick. With nite finders the shorter the dart the more distance, this is just how it is for me.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

#220241 Effective Maverick Stefans?

Posted by Roschili on 28 March 2009 - 08:20 AM in Homemades

Hey, I've made a lot of stefans for my guns. I have made three sizes 1.5'' , 2'' , and 2.5''. These all work great with my nite finders but they all fail with my modded mavericks. I use very dense foam and insert a 3/0 fishing weight into the end of each one, but none of them shoot as far as the standard suction cup darts do. In my maverick I just did the simple mods, removed the barrel posts and took out the air restrictors. I am putting new springs in soon but I have not done that yet. I have also tried using the true flight red rangers from ebay and they work well with the nite finder but bad with the mavericks. Does anyone have any suggestions or know anything that does work well?
Thanks

How do you guys cut your foam, like what do you use? I just use a sharp knife but that doesn't cut very straight. Other than those of you who have automatic cutters what do you use? I have tried scissors, a hack saw, and wire cutters none of them worked to my liking, thanks to everyone who has a suggestion.

#229197 Mod Questions About Eliminator

Thanks guys, I also have one other question. :P

How do I reinforce the catch on my Buzz Bee RFR?

#228608 Mod Questions About Eliminator

Posted by Roschili on 06 May 2009 - 05:30 PM in Modifications

Ok today I got my 4-pack of eliminators in the mail and I immediately wanted to mod them to shoot my stefans but I ran into trouble taking the gun apart. I cannot get the gun apart after I took the screws out. I took all the screws out and it did not just pop apart like other guns. I tried wedging it apart with screwdrivers but I did not apply a lot of force because I did not want to break it. Here are some pictures of what it looks like. It seems to be stuck around the handle where there is like an oval shaped piece on the bottom that the extendable grip/dart holder is. I am unsure how to get the shell apart, any advice?

Ok now for my other question. I have a Buzz Bee RFR and I heard it was a good idea to reinforce the catch, can someone tell me how to do this?

Thanks everyone!

#228612 Mod Questions About Eliminator

Posted by Roschili on 06 May 2009 - 05:36 PM in Modifications

Cut off the ring between the slide-out handle and the main gun shell.

Is that the only way to take the gun apart? Will the gun be able to go back together cleanly? Finally, what should I used to cut it off?

Thanks 1337.

#229175 Mod Questions About Eliminator

Ok, I am still having troubles taking the gun apart and modding it. I would still like other suggestions on how to disassemble the gun. If you have done this before please post how you did it.

#229321 Mod Questions About Eliminator

Put the hot glue inside the spring, and while it is still warm put it back on the peg where it originally was.

Will the spring still compress like that?

#229354 Mod Questions About Eliminator

I tried putting the eliminator in boiling water and that did not help at all. I am going to continue prying on it in hopes of getting it apart.
