Topics I've Started

Once More With Feeling

10 March 2011 - 01:08 AM

Date:
-May 28, 2011

Location:
-General Getty Park, Silver Spring, MD (Google it!)
-Picnic tables, can't miss 'em. It's a pretty small park but makes for some fun nerfing.

Time:
-10 AM til whenever we feel like ending

Rules:
-No JOBARs, No Cobras, no singled Titans, no singled SM5Ks, no singled plugged-pump airguns designed to shoot anything larger than a Mega dart. (If you are unsure about whether your blaster fits this description, bring a back-up just in case.)
-No exposed metal barrels
-No blasters painted flat black
-No dressing up in camouflage
-Bring a pistol or two. We will be having pistol-based rounds.
-Bring some other weird crazy fun blasters. Ball guns, proprietary missiles/arrows, whatever.

Shields:
-Manta Rays and Laser Fang wings only.

Melee:
-Melee hits count as barrel "taps". If your melee weapon gets shot it counts as a blaster hit.

Lunch:
-Pack one. There are places to eat within driving distance, not really walking distance.

Match Types:
-Deathmatch (3-15, 5-20, etc.)
-Not Deathmatch (will figure out what once I get a better idea of who will be attending)

M3 Encore

06 April 2010 - 07:05 PM

Since it seems no info has come up for Spring DCNO, and since M3 went so well, I figured I might as well host another one. Maryland May Mayhem, I guess?

When:
May 22, 2010
10 AM til 3 PM

Where:
General Getty Neighborhood Park
10000 Woodland Dr.
Wheaton, MD, 20902
More info here

It's right off of Georgia Avenue, walking distance from the Forest Glen Metro. The Q2, Q4, Y7, and Y8 buses stop right in front of the park on the Georgia Avenue side. This park is smaller than Wheaton Regional, but should be far less crowded.

Rules:
Pretty much the same as the first M3, so I'll just paste it here.

- No singled Titans, SM5Ks, Ultimators, XXL Bazookas, Jobars, or Cobras.
- No singled and plugged 4Bs, LBBs, SGSLs, Nat Geo guns, Roto Rockets, etc.
- No homemade air blasters or homemade air tanks.
- No exposed brass or aluminum barrels.
^^^ These are very important, as they are all for the safety of the players. Also if I feel anything else is a safety issue, I reserve the right to disallow it.

- Bring at least one "primary" and one sping-powered pistol. You might want to bring back-ups in the event something breaks.
- There may be some crazy rules in effect for several rounds, so bring some out-of-the-ordinary blasters if you can. Ballguns, stock missiles, arrows, megas, whatever.
- Barrel taps only count if the blaster is primed and loaded. Melee weapons count as barrel taps.
- Manta Ray shields (stock or fabricated), Crossfire shields, and Laser Fang wings count as shields. (Also if you can prove that Nerf intended for any other product to be used as a shield, it will be allowed as a shield.) Anything else will be counted as a hit. Blaster hits count as hits as well.

- Don't even bother showing up wearing camouflage and wielding blasters painted all black. You will be promptly asked to leave.
- Don't be a dick. Keep profanity to an absolute minimum, and throw your trash out. Really, just use common sense. Anyone showing signs of dickery will be promptly asked to leave.

Extra Stuff:
M3 was awesome because nobody took it very seriously and everyone was just there for fun. Again I strongly encourage attendees to bring "out-of-the-ordinary" blasters for a couple of the later rounds during the day, because the last two rounds at M3 were hilarious.

Ratchet Blast Beef Up

07 February 2010 - 11:48 AM

Since it seems nobody has written about this before:

Yes I know, Hector looks constipated.

I've primed it about 100 times and so far there have been no signs of wear or stress on either the plunger rod or the handle.

Adding a stronger spring makes it much, much harder to prime one-handed (my twiggy arms aren't really a good barometer of how hard it would be to prime something, but it's safe to say that the average teenager wouldn't be able to do it without straining their arm), and as such reduces its effectiveness as a one-handed pistol.

Range is dumb. Don't as me for it.

I shoved some PETG barrels in it and so far it fires just fine. It's pretty fun to use. Just make sure in the act of one-hand-priming your darts don't fly out of the barrels. Make sure your material is tight around your darts at the bottom of the barrels so they stay in place.

M3 Take Two

08 January 2010 - 04:31 PM

Because I'm tired of waiting until May for a DC area war, and I wanted to try this place out as a potential war site.

Where:
Wheaton Park
2002 Shorefield Road
Wheaton, MD 20902

Wheaton is about 10 minutes outside Washington, DC, and about 30 minutes south of Baltimore.

The Shorefield area is the place with all of the picnic tables, the massive playground, and the famous train ride. It's walking distance from the Glenmont Metro station, and there are a lot of places to get food around as well. Even if the playground area is packed with kids, there should be plenty of areas for us to nerf.

Date:
April 3rd, 2010
10 AM 'til sundown.
I'll try to get a picnic table reserved ASAP.

Rules:
- No singled Titans, SM5Ks, Ultimators, XXL Bazookas, Jobars, or Cobras.
- No singled and plugged 4Bs, LBBs, SGSLs, Nat Geo guns, Roto Rockets, etc.
- No homemade air blasters or homemade air tanks.
- No exposed brass or aluminum barrels.

- Don't be a dick. Keep profanity to an absolute minimum, and throw your trash out. Really, just use common sense. Anyone showing signs of dickery will be promptly asked to leave.
- There are plenty of places to get food and drink within walking distance of the park, and there are a few vending machines here and there, so a bag lunch is recommended but not essential.
