So I figured it's about time to start posting some of the ideas I've come up with, since I'm in charge of the mod team for my campus' Nerf Apocalypse Society, this one is the most obvious, and I was surprised I hadn't seen it up here yet. It's probably because for most nerfers, this mod isn't that useful. But we play games at night, where a flash can temporarily blind a 'zombie' for 2-6 seconds, giving you vital time to escape. Very simple mod. All you do is dremel out the area where the orange springed N-Strike attachment is, on one side. Then cut the nearest (to the front of the gun) two pieces of melted plastic that hold the wire, to give me more room to work with. Make sure the wire does not get in the way of any moving part. I used E-tape to tape the wire to the plunger to help prevent it from moving into the way of moving parts. This next part is not necessary, but I had scraps of plastic left over from a minimized nitefinder, so hacksawed them to a desired size and used them as braces on the side to help the glue from running. I then covered up the hole I had made into the gun, the wires as well, because it's bound to rain in the 10 days we are playing. In addition, (not shown) I put a hot glue drop on the inside of the holders near the stock of the gun, and put another plastic scrap from the nitefinder below it just to make sure the holders work for stefans. I also had stretched the spring and removed the restrictors / posts from this gun. I hope I explained everything well enough.

Sorry I was not able to take pictures while I was modding, I had the person I modded it for take the pictures.

So you basically mounted the flash thing on the top? I gotta try that.

I have actually done this myself. I just cut out the plastic on the front and flipped the flasher up and to the side. It's inside the gun itself which probably reduces the brightness a tad. Good job man. I haven't tried it at night though so tell us how it works. <_<

It blinds people in relative darkness( one 45 W bulb 10m away, or street lights) for 2-6 seconds. Perfect for Zombies vs Humans, which is what my group is playing this semester.

If you wanted to make thing a little more complex, I see two possible improvements to this mod:

1) You can remove the red on/off indicator light and connect the circuit with a wire. The red glowing light could give your position away in darkness rather easily.

2) You can mount a momentary switch to fire the flash near the trigger area. This allows you to burst light without firing (say you have one bullet left and you want to save it, but you need to flash zombies).

Other than that, it looks like it serves its purpose well.

You might also want to think about putting some new barrels on that sucker. Stock firefly barrels are notoriously loose on darts. Switching to PETG should increase your range by a lot (it doubled for me).

Glad to see someone on the boards that doesn't bitch all day about how badly the firefly sucks. <_<

hell of a lot better than the maverick, I liked the way they made the seal between the turret and the plunger. The light isn't an issue, really, if he's going to use the thing, the zombies allready know he is there, as most of the time, humans do not use stealth. I actually bent the contacts twords the trigger so it fires much before the actual dart. I guess you could say that it is on a hair trigger. Thanks for the suggestion though, I might ask the guy if he wants his Firefly modded for the indicator light, becuase this guy bought the society a dremel, so, not afraid to go back and work on it, as we owe him big time.

I am currently working out a flash bomb based off this. I want to use about 6 FF or similar flash things hooked up to a 9volt in the middle then have switches coming out of every consivible area. It would be multi use and still used a switch so you can turn it off.

sounds near impossible(bulbs, fagile, 9V supplying all the flashes, timing, etc) I will be VERY impressed if you pull it off.

No timing. All done by switches. It would go off the moment it touched something and I've already tried it. Its ment to be used in urban nerf and you roll it into the room or toss it lightly. It currently works with only one bulb.

sounds like it'd break easily. I was toying with idea of replacing the "laser" sight on a nitefinder with a disposable camera's flash bulb. I think that'd be a little better then a 'flash nade" because it wouldn't be tossed around and potentially broken.

I think a ball of blinking white LED's are the way to go if you want to make a flash grenade.

LED's are far more robust than camera flash bulbs, and they are still quite bright.

That gives me an idea. I will (if I ever finish it) wrap it in a hard clear plastic shell and use tinfoil to amplify the light. But still, its a little far fetched for nerf I know.

Not for Nerf, Human vs. Zombies. Who cares if your creative idea is far-fetched. If you know it can be done and you know exactly how to do it and it enhances game play and actually gives the humans an edge on the zombies than go for it!

I don't feel the way I used to do.
I know its bad,

At one point on Day 4-5 the last humans were trying to move down stairs and a flash bang would have been great. I think having 3 or four of these instead of socks to clear a room would be great. Those, grenades and good teamwork would help humans clearing out any area. I am trying to go to MIT, Brown, or another moth/science oriented school in the area. Do you think in umm a few years that you will still be playing? If so... (thinks about how awesome H v Z is)... I want to visit.

It's settled then. Over the next few weeks I will go and search for flashes and make a re-useable flash granade. Thanks Angel for not belittling and nit-picking. And now it will be a project to prove nay sayers wrong.
