Just thought it would be interesting to find out what you thought the first time you discovered there was an online nerf community, or for our older members, what was it like founding it?

Wanna hear your stories,

I used to have a ton of Nerf guns years ago, but I got out of the hobby. Then, last year I was thinking about a way to build a magazine-fed ping-pong ball gun and I stumbled upon boltsniper's FAR diagram on his website. That got me into Nerf again, and I'm still into designing all types of guns. However, I still lack the initiative to complete any of them. I need to work on that.

As for what I thought about the NIC, I don't really remember. Based on the depth and detail in the write-ups, the level of complexity of some homemades, and the general experience that everyone seemed to have, I thought that the NIC was a great idea and somewhere I could join to contribute. There weren't many idiots who blocked up the forums with useless posts, so I also thought that this site in particular was a clean, put-together site of people who actually knew what they were doing. That view hasn't changed, despite the Great Noob Influx (we needed a name for that event).

That's prettimuch EXACTLY what happened to me. The FAR got me right back into Nerf again. Most of my guns broke or got lost over time (I had at least 30 Hidden Shots laying around because the dollar store sold them for, well, a dollar), I bet if I'd bother cleaning my room sometime then I'll find a box full of old guns.

I remember my reaction when I saw the FAR, I was wide-eyed reading the write-up for about an hour afterwards. Then, I pulled out my NFs and did some work on them. From there, I decided to create an account and buy more and more guns (I managed to buy a Longshot when it was first released through someone on their own birthday, I still can't believe they bought it for me).

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. A good nerf gun is like a good woman. It shouldn't require extra lubrication.

My friend broke his Expand-a-Blast, and when looking it up online, we found Nerfhaven. A few months later, I purchased a NF and decideded to mod it using a Nerfhaven Writeup.

I don't remember exactly how I stumbled upon Nerf Haven, but once I saw the Modification section I immediately went an modified my SM 750. I was amazed by the ranges and was instantly hooked, now I'm on almost everyday.

I remember it like it was yesterday... I wanted to get better ranges on my nf so i looked it up and lo and behold i found nerfhq and the nerfhaven so after about a year of waiting to be validated i modded and perfected my stephan making skills. And after i got out of nerf for a while the FAR brought me back in just in time (because i just got validated) so here i am. Thats how i found out about nerf online

I remember getting a wildfire for my birthday when I was like 7, but my mom didn't let me keep it and she sold it at a garage sale. 5 years later, my little brother got a crossfire and I searched for the new blasters online. Then I found Nerfhaven. Of course I had to wait a few months before I turned 13, but that's how i found Nerfhaven. I still want that Wildfire back...

My Maverick broke, the little nub on top of the slide, so I cut acrylic into a rectangular piece and epoxied it on. It broke again, so I looked it up online, found Nerfhaven, and was hooked.

I was buying a gun for a nerf war. A school that my friend is at has assasins games so I was intrested. My momgot rid of a bunch of my old crap and I lost my original NF. I came home with a mav from target and looked on the internet for things to do with it. I stumbled on NH and believe it or not the FAR by boltsniper really sparked my intrest onto what could become of this. I immidietly signed up for NH and have been here since. I don't have as much of a history of nerf as others but after dabbling in airsoft, I decided I liked nerf a hell of alot more. You can't have indoor airsoft wars, and most nerf guns travel FARTHER than airsoft.

I bought a Maverick for the hell of it with leftover change from Holiday money, and I found a bunch of stuff on instructables, so I saw a Splitfire, and wanted one ever since. I'm trading for one  But Instructables is a great website, I found so much cool stuff on that site.

Bustaninja- WTF r u talkin about? I bought my first airsoft gun yesterday for a war on Sunday, and I goes 300 feet+ I have not seen ANY nerf gun go farther than that EVER!

Was it a really nice one? because some can go that far but nearly all of them drop after about 50 feet. Some even less. And also, watch that chat speek. And I bet you can go 300ft +. I would weep if you couldn't.
I'm sorry for being a douche just now but I have been airsofting for a while.

Its the Remington TAC-1 Shotgun, I got it for 40 bucks at Dicks. Its great for the money, shoots .12 but the accuracy is medium. The magazine sucks, and reloading is a bitch.

It was a joke with the aim talk too.

Lets keep this on topic shall we?

I first discovered the NIC when I was looking for more powerful guns to use in my first Assassin game.
I was reading reviews on guns over at Nerf center. Which were only useful if the guns was stock.
I was also the mods directory over at Nerf world a lot. Not only reading the mods on guns I had but reading every modification they had in the directory. Of course their directory was a hell of a lot smaller than ours.
I learned some good tips when modding and applied them to my first mod. The Nite Finder. Once I realized the difference in power and the amount of creativity that could go into nerf guns I knew it was something I could get into. A maverick and a LBB came next in my personal mods. Then I came up with the idea for the ABBB.

The rest is history.

I remember when stefan sent me an invite to the list serve. At that point cutting the nub off the front of a bow n arrow so that it could fire darts was pretty much the cutting edge. Back then it was toss some rubber bands on the plunger and call it a day; until people started relocating crossbow barrels. It's just funny that everyones story now is centered around modifications. Used to be just a good place to discuss throwing wars. Guess the focus has shifted.

I first discovered Nerfhaven when I bought a Maverick at Target. I had been eying the new guns that Nerf had been making for a while, and decided to get the sweet looking revolver. I was disappointed so I decided to find some way to make it better. I first stumbled upon Nerfcenter, but their site was outdated, however their reviews taught me that I had purchased one of the best Nerf guns around a while back(SM5000). After going from one dead Nerf site to the other I finally made it to the Haven. After using one of the mods, I quickly signed up for membership. From there on out, I've been making my own mods, with inspiration from the vast directory, or using ones that already exist. Thanks for helping me find a great hobby!

I discovered this place after I dug up a Firefly in my old toy room. I thought, huh, there has to be a way to make this better. So naturally, I googled it, and came up with this. Then the activation lasted too long and I joined Nerfhq. I'm VERY glad for google.

Within the years '05 to '06, I purchased a Mav and an LS (just because they were so cool looking), and they reminded me of all the nerf wars I'd had when I was younger.

Then, around the end of January or beginning of February last year, I was in my college's library doing some preliminary research on Wikipedia for a paper I had to right. I got bored and, thinking about y LS and my Mav, decided to search for "nerf" on Wikipedia. There, it had a brief mention of modifying nerf guns, and (I think) stefans. So, after some searching, I found NH and NHQ.

As a side note...

It seems that the Wikipedia page has since been modified, and currently makes no mention of modifications, etc. For once, my timing was good.

I think I stumbled upon NerfCenter about 7 years ago, sometime around the year 2000, and primarily lurked around on the forums there. I had very little modding experience and only a couple of blasters, my Crossbow, an Arrowstorm, and a couple SuperMaxx and Vortex blasters. My war experience was very limited, mostly to unmodded blasters within a local group of friends that lived in my immediate area. Very different to how things are now-a-days.

When I finally decided to join and post, my first post was actually a Nerf comic (which would later become the first Nerfaholics comic). It featured Spoon tracking down a noob from the forums and unloading a Powerclip into his frontside. The comic got immediate attention between NerfCenter and NerfOnline alike, and I was asked to join the staff of NerfCenter and NerfOnline by Andy and Hal. I decided to go with NerfOnline, where I met Spoon, VACC, cxwq, the LCM, and several others that I would eventually meet and Nerf with. Nerfaholics was a big hit, and continued to be over the next couple years until NerfOnline withered and died. Not too soon thereafter I was asked by cxwq if I would be interested in doing a similar comic on a new site he was working on, NerfHaven, in 2002 - and the rest is history. If you had asked me 6-7 years ago what I'd be doing in Nerf, this certainly would not have been what I had imagined.

I bought a Maverick at Target, and first discovered NerfCenter, as it seems many people did. I found a crapload of old guns at a garage sale later, which really got me into Nerf.

I got into nerf and nerfhaven (I didn't join any other sites) after some substance abuse and the spontaneous idea that we wanted to run around my apartment complex and shoot eachother without instilling fear in my neighbors using airsoft guns.

We bought 2 cases of beer and 10 nitefinders. I still have the same nitefinders and two at2ks. The beer is long gone.

It was incredible. I can't take nerf seriously at all because it was an impulsive, inebriated decision at the time, and that's what sticks with me.

I used to be a member on Super Soaker Central and had some Nerf guns lying around. I clicked a link on SSCentral and it lead me to the FAR. I was impressed so I kept browsing the forums and came across a mod for the SM750. I had two of these so I modded the both of them and I was very impressed with the range. I then destroyed an AirTech 1000 and decided to get a NiteFinder. I modded this and then a Longshot and decided to get a dremel and some brass and some PVC, you know the basics. I have now modded at least twenty guns and now I am a member on the forums.

So you're one of those fuckers who doesn't take our lifeblood seriously? Nice.

I've got a pretty familiar story.

Step 1: Get Nerf gun for some random holiday.
Step 2: Throw them down in disgust after realizing they can't shoot across your house.
Step 3: Search them on the Internet to see if there are better ones.
Step 4: Stumble across Boltsniper's site.
Step 5: Follow the link to NerfHaven.

Does it sound familiar? I think it happens to almost everybody.
