Ok, we all know that SentinalofNight is a fan of bringing up 9 month old topics. But just fucking ignore him already, yelling at him obviously doesn't work so wait until cxwq bans his ass. Replying just encourages it.

Dude, there not going to go away, they will just post less, and act less n00bish...We need them, In a few years, when alot of people have stopped nerf, these n00bs will fill in, increasing the nerfing population, which further increases the population by bringing in new people, and after reading around, and honing their modding techniques, they wont be n00bs, or newbs. They will probobally have better guns than us, using their own ideas and ours(?) They will contribute to the community, and with more nerfers, there will be more nerf wars, funner nerf wars, thus more skill and tactics will be aquired.

That's where your fucking wrong. We don't need them. Chances are 1 in 100 that he'll be productive later. We don't kill all newbs and make it so that no one new could register, but you have to realize that some people arent going to be good nerfers or contributors. If they piss you off, wait for him to be banned. All those hippies that say we should never yell at newbs are totally wrong. Sure, maybe we'll scare one guy away. Oh well. With the exception of maybe Stefan and Cxwq, no one person has made a huge impact that no one else would have done.

Its funny you talk, Thirst. You're a pretty big newb yourself. What've you been here, 2, 3 months? I know length has nothing to do with maturity, but don't act like a freakin wise man.

I'm pretty sure the point of this site is to be a place for the newbs not to come. C has made that pretty clear.

Yes, he just came to the wrong place.

Anywho, I figure I'll attack rhino now, and yes, I'm stating that because this is what its going to be.

Rhino, shut up. "With the exception of maybe Stefan and Cxwq, no one person has made a huge impact that no one else would have done." I percieve that to be bullshit. If you think about it, you'll probably come up with 20 names of people who've made an impact, even a HUGE impact on our little community. I don't mean to show stefan or Cxwq any disrespect, but there are more pioneers. You're using a "what if" that will always remain a "what if" to make your statement true... Put more thought into your post, instead of throwing out your very own, knee jerk reaction.

I don't believe you have a crystal ball, cut out the fortune teller act.

You make some good points Cadmond, but I'll restate what I'm saying.

Some Newbs will be our future, others won't.
Being nice to annoying ones will not make them stop being annoying.
I mean that very few people have really done something totally themselves that no one would have done eventually.
Sandy's right, this is not the place for newbs to come.
I don't know what what-if you're talking about, you're using more than me. "What if he becomes a great member."

I should stop ranting, its getting me into trouble.
Alright, I got nothing more to say.

True. Using a what if against another isn't very "splendid." I figure it would be better to give examples than to naught, and what ifs would be the only examples I could give.

One such as "what if math kept on growing from the death of archimedes to the rediscovery of calculus by Isaac Newton?" Can't remember if it was archimedes or not actually, but that one guy.. you know.

And my brother's laugh is very creepy.

oh yeah

A little bird told me that there will be a "cleansing" of some of the people that don't belong here or need to go back to third grade, relatively soon. Actually, "cleansing" doesn't sound cool enough. Scratch that, let's call it "purging." Yeah, "purging." I'll be in my Papal Chambers if you need me.

I don't think I'm going to step into this conversation, but...

Newbs' are out of our control. Completely. Unless we invent some N00b-Away-Spray, we can't stop them. What we can do is to... Well, I don't know the solution. Just let newbies be, tell them to stay away from this place, and don't eat hamburgers.

Noobs will usually be noobs. Noobs are usually hated with a passion until they earn some welts, and so long as BBS's exist, so will noobs. I remember when I first came to NO, I posted stupid things, Vacc put me in my place. I was offended, but I got over it. It's tough love, baby.

I can only think of one noob that was well behaved and respected from the beggining. We'll call him WXQC(randomly generated name). He didn't just jump into the boards and try to act important by inflating his ego through post count or what he said he did. He submitted valuable ideas and gained respect through contributions. He posted when it was important and measured all his ranges. He went from "noob" to "vet" very quickly because of his contributions, not his post count. Of course, such a person doesn't exist; I just made that up as an example. Take notes, nubbies.

Now new nerfers are welcomed at some other websites(not to be named), but here we have the right to be bitchy. It is our responsibility to be cruel and unusually rude to newbies, or else they will never learn when to shut their cute little mouths. Yes, they are the future, but if we never steer them in the right direction and show them how to behave, then the future will be full of l33t speak and "OMGz." I for one, don't really see that as a good direction for the NIC, but if you do, go ahead and prove me wrong.

Length of time has nothing to do with it. You could have been around from the origonal nerf list, and still be a newb. If you still dig up old topics, or ask what the best gun is, or reply to every topic started weather you have anything to say or not, you're a newb. I suppose we should come up with a new, less confusing name for it.

I totally disagree with you.

If you take such a laisez-faire approach to newbs you're going to get walked all over by them. See, I think I'm one of the few people on this board who fucking speaks what's on my mind, and I'm really not afraid to say it, because - quite frankly I don't give a fuck what newberts think about me. They either learn quickly or they don't, just at a much, much, much slower rate (or in some cases, they just don't take a goddamn hint).

Don't get into the whole "omg ur such a newbert an I'm totally not, like whoa" whole argument, it's fucking retarded. We've been there, we've done that, we've got the tee shirt. If status really means that much to you (and this isn't directed at anyone in particular) then I have no respect for you. Does it really matter how long you've been here, if you've provided some sort of content which was received in a positive manner from the rest of the community? What matters more to you...how long someone has been here, or the quality of their content? Just thought I'd ask (for trash-talking n00bs however, that's a different beat).

You'd think some of these newberts would have learned "respect" when they graduated from Elementary school...I mean, if they graduated from Elementary school...you get my point.

Look here kids, the problem of "the newb" has plagued every Internet-based community since BBS's and e-mail lists were created. If I've learned anything from my hazing days, it's that you can't judge a newb based on how annoying he is, but you can judge him based on how he reacts to your criticizing his annoyance.

Take Goo for instance, he was annoying as all fuck when he hit the scene. We told him he was a newb, flamed the shit out of him, and basically said that he always WOULD be a newb. Well, he embraced this idea. He became Goo: The Eternal Newbie, and to this day his antics continue but the attitude he adopted towards his newbism begrudgingly earned him our respect as a community. Sure he would still say dumb stuff, but by making himself a large target it taught the other newbs to keep their heads low and mouths shut in the beginning.

I don't know if there was a point to this story, it's just kind of how I look at all these new comers. I mean, Newbie really is a relative term after all. But if you all are serious about getting these boards under control again then I suggest that you all quit talking and dedicate yourselves to working together towards a solution. A Final Solution. WE MUST SEPERATE THE WEAK FROM THE STRONG, SEPERATE OURSELVES FROM THAT WHICH HAS CAUSED US TO FAIL THROUGHOUT HISTORY! WE WILL TAKE THOSE WHO CANNOT CONTRIBUTE TO OUR GREAT SOCIETY AND CONCENTRATE THEM INTO SMALL CAMPS WHERE THEY CAN BE MONITORED. AND OUR FATHERLAND, LEFT ONLY WITH THE STRONG SHALL GROW AND PROSPER!!!

We start with WTRent..........

Anyone who registered in the last month and hasn't read the new users thread in site feedback, do so now.

Anyone who signs up and immediately starts half a dozen threads that have already been covered a million times will be deleted.

Anyone who can't be troubled to spell check their posts and uses tons of IM abbreviations will be deleted.

Anyone who doesn't like it can go elsewhere.

Nerf needs newbies.

NerfHaven does not.

As a new person to this site I feel the need to chime in on this topic. There are some people that are genuinely interested in the hobby of nerfing. It has particular interest to me because I've always modified toys and other things and I've just applied my efforts toward nerf guns. Just by going through the site I discovered that this was a "tough love" kind of website, just the kind I like.

I have had experience on other boards however so I know the procedures involved but many do not. This is a very punchy group from what I've seen but that's a given and I think that if someone can't deal with it then this is the wrong place for them to be spending time. Some people might take attacks personally and that's a problem with them, if they don't receive a response to a couple questions they ask they will probably just go away.

Indeed new members are needed to keep any hobby going but if they lack the interest to take a couple hits then they probably aren't too serious about contributing. I'm in the learning phase of it all and have started to develop some ideas for experimentation, it's all a natural progression and it does take time. Of course on any board you visit there will be people there just to cause trouble, unfortunately it's part of the internet try to ignore it and you'll be better off for it.
