I've got a broken rail on my bolt sled:

The gap isn't actually that wide; in the picture, I'm holding it open a little bit for visibility.

Is there a good way to patch this up so that it will have reliable integrity again? There doesn't seem to be room to glue even a thin patch onto it, and it seems like gluing the break itself wouldn't carry weight for very long before it broke open again. Any ideas, or do I need to buy another LS just for the damn bolt sled?

Fun fact: before I figured out that the sled was broken, it was behaving as though I needed a stronger spring on the trigger plate / plunger catch. I'd try to prime it, and it would rarely click. I guess I'm a dipshit for not noticing, but if you replace the trigger plate spring and the problem persists, that's something to look at. For future reference.

If you searched, you would of found two other threads with the SAME break. One is mine.

Buy a new bolt sled.

Reinforce it with aluminum after epoxing it back together.

Plastic cement or superglue work best here. They have the consistency of water, so they won't offset the side of the sled at all. I would also glue some aluminum sheeting onto the sides of the sled. Out of curiosity, were you pulling the bolt back too fast, or was there a spring replacement.

You can patch it on the inside of the location it broke. I would suggest superglue medium from hobby lobby.

I have a slide I can send you, but it is home 2 hours away.(if you just want to replace it.)

It would take me 2 weeks to get.

Mine broke like that on both sides and CS said it was a "Structural Failure" and I could not fix it.

You'd be better off buying a new one if you ask me.

Wouldn't sheeting get in the way, though? There's not a lot of extra room in there.

I really don't know. As far as I can tell, it happened quite a while ago and I only just figured it out. I've been spending all this time trying to wrap my brain around why the trigger plate wasn't catching, and it was because the bolt sled was broken and consequently wasn't pulling all the way back. I put a too-strong spring in there a few months back, but it was only in there for a couple of days before I replaced it with an AR-15 spring, and the break happened since then.

Any kind of reinforcement you can fit in the shell is in order. I use aluminum flashing, which is an ultra-thin, small aluminum sheet normally sold in packs of ten at Home Depot near the Building Materials aisle. You can cut them with scissors, and I recommend doing that because metal isn't a great food for Dremel cut-off wheels...

The flashing will fit on the inside of the bolt sled, but I would avoid using in on any surfaces that slide on or past each other, especially in something as finely tuned as the LS. For example, don't put it in grooves. Other than that, it ought to be fine...

My LS bolt sled was starting to show stress marks in the plastic, so I reinforced it with JB Weld. You could try super glue to fix the break, and a thin layer of JB Weld over it. Mostly on the inside so it will not interfere with the rest of the parts.

If you're confident with a Soldering iron, try this
Heat one side of the crack slowly with a soldering iron until it's liquid, then reconnect both sides. When it cools, run the tip of the iron along the crack, sealing it togeather.

If you really want reinforcement, Plexiglass and superglue work really well on LS parts. Just make sure they're small enough not to interfere with the rest of the gun

This happened to me too in almost the exact same way. I tried using super glue, it would work for a while, then it would break again. Lucky for me, it broke the next time during LCM, and another person's longshot's plunger got messed up, so he let me have his slider.

Just get a new one. Take it off an old broken LS.
