Date: Sunday, September 30
Location: Saxon Woods Park, Westchester County, New York.
Start Time: 10:00 AM

PICTURES: CLICK HERE

DIRECTIONS:

GOOGLE MAPS DIRECTIONS - PARKING LOT

WHAT TO BRING:

- Bring lunch. Because of the field, we will be a hike away from anything worthwhile. A trip out to lunch would put a huge dent in our day. Bring your own.
- Bug spray. We're playing in the woods. And the weather is still uncertain. Bring spray.
- Wear long pants. Poison ivy and ticks are the respective state plant and animal of the New York Nerf scene.

HEAD COUNT:

Attendance: 18-24 (as of 9/19):

Confirmed:
-Team Nightshift (13)
-OMC
-D. Shrimp
-Keef (3-4)
-DX

Possibles:
- Vacc
- l337
- Shadowkid33

Battle For New York

Start Time: 10
End Time: When people are tired. (5?)

Directions:
NEW PARKING LOT.

Logistics:
- Bring lunch. We will be at least a ten minute walk from the street, and don't want to have to have people leave for lunch, as it will likely take too long between getting cars and getting to town and back.
- Bring bug spray. Sometimes the bugs can be pretty bad, but you never really know.
- Be sure to try and pick up your darts. We want to leave the park as clean as it was when we got there.
- I would wear long pants. I've seen poison ivy in the park, and I would think there are some ticks too.
- Optional: A light First Aid Kit in case you cut yourself running through a thorn bush or something of that sort (i.e: just a couple of band-aids and some disinfectant).

People: only post here if you are confirming that you are coming, not if you're a maybe.

Thanks.

Attendance: 21-23 (as of 9/29):

Confirmed:
-Nightshift (14)
-Keef +2-3
-DX
-Skitzo +2

confirmed to be a maybe?:
- l337

What if I'm confirming that I'm a maybe.

I mean I'm not, but hypothetically speaking....would that be ok?

If someone could bring a first-aid kit that would be excellent. I bang myself up at these things but after looking at the pictures of the field in the other thread it seems like this place has the potential for a memorable war and some memorable bruises/scars/breaks/snaps. Does anyone have a first-aid kit and would they be willing to bring it?

There may be some complications with the trains. Supposedly the Shore Line East does not operate on weekends, but Amtrak does. I'm not sure if transferring from Amtrak to Metro North occurs in the same station [I plan to transfer in New Haven, which has more than one]. Also, should I choose Mamaroneck over Larchmont? I looked at some maps and saw that Mamaroneck station is like down the road from the war location.

So far my plans are confusing, but keep me as confirmed. I have always found a way to attend wars that I confirm to in the past and intend to keep it that way. ^_^

Definitely take Mamaroneck over Larchmont. Good to hear your plans are working out.

It actually barelly matters. Whatever is easiest for you (though Mamaroneck is closer to New Haven and the war location)

If I come, I'll need a cell phone number so I can call one of you so I can find the playing area. It sounds like it's a hike, sort of like Apoc was. Alternativelly, I could use some directions to get to the playing area. Thanks.

This is because I'm 90% sure I'll be about 30 minutes late, as usual.

I'm gonna throw a question out there:
So, if we use the carpool system it will be kind of complicated, and if people come late, there could be a problem. But, if we use the main parking lot, there will be no parking complications; however, there's a catch, the walk from the main lot to the fields is around 0.8-0.9 miles (about 20-25 minutes on foot). The paths are really flat and wide, but still, carrying all of that stuff that distance is tough. My question is, which would you guys prefer?

Real nerfers can walk the mile. Well, unless you've got a shitload of stuff [OMC's wagon at Apoc comes to mind]. The reason why I'm probably getting off at Mamaroneck rather than Larchmont is that it's so much closer. If someone were to forget to pick me up, I could just walk it, which also appears to be around a mile, mile and a half, not bad.

Thats a monkey wrench.

Look, we're going to have to make special arrangements it looks like. Nature of the beast. But why can we not stick to our guns, and do things the way we've planned. If people come late to that parking lot, walking is not an issue.
The best we can do is answer questions about the field and access. We'll give out phone numbers and on the day if people have extra questions, they'll be answered as well.

Depending on my knee I might not make it; its been getting steadily worse now for about 7 weeks. I spent 4 hours in NYC today and I'm iced up and wrapped up and depending on how quickly I heal up, I will decide on whether or not I'm going. If it takes me days and days to recuperate from walking for 4 hours I don't know what Nerfing for 6 hours will do to it.

If I do come (and I want to), I might sit out every other round.

Wow Evil Angel that is so unlike you! I mean in the past when you missed events you had valid excuses like there is a chance that it might rain or the store I work at needs two people to sell Crock-pots signed by Mike Piazza. But making something up like an injury that's just gay.

I'm going on the disabled list (DL) until further notice. It is now Tuesday, early Wednesday and it looks like I'm going to see the orthopedist on Monday morning. The pain I've described to the doctor sounds to him like I have a patella tendon problem.

Have fun guys. At the very least I'm glad I managed to help organize this.

Due to complications with the parking lot we were planning to use, we have decided to park at the main parking lot, and walk to the playing field. There's just no other practical way to do it. As we will be walking about 1 mile to the playing field, please plan accordingly. Please make sure that you can carry everything that you need.
We will meet you all in the parking lot at ten oclock, be walking to the feild at 10:15.
Road directions should follow shortly.
Also some things about the game. Bring lunch. It makes it easier for everyone. Bring fluids too, as we will be in the woods, and can't drive down quickly to the store. This will not be the only feild we play at, but is the main feild that we will probably come back to after most rounds.
Goddamned pictures are giving me problems robbie. Post the trail guide for me please?

Trail directions:
MAP:
Posted Image
I have provided a trail guide, but use common sense. Remember, you're trying to get to the area labeled play area. If you arrive late, stay put and call one of us; we will come and find you.
Turn in at the Saxon Woods park sign
Posted Image
As you head into the parking lot, park on the left side.
In the left corner of the parking lot, closest to the road, there is a trail entrance.
Posted Image
The trail head should look like this:
Posted Image
After walking on the trail for a while, small trail will fork off to left; take the left trail:
Posted Image
After a short ways, you will come to a large trail; turn right on this trail
Posted Image
Looking down the trail
Posted Image
Keep heading down this trail. Eventually you will hit a fork; turn left.
(I know it says go right in the photo, just go left)
Posted Image
You'll know you're close when you see this large upturned tree stump:
Posted Image
You will see this when you have arrived:
Posted Image
The whole walk took us 16 minutes (with time to take pictures)

Unfortunatelly, I'm going to have to bail out on this one, because my dad can't drive me there. I'd like to thank TexanSharpShooter and z80 though, because within hours of posting I'll need directions, they both gave me their cell phone numbers.

I will be at DCNO though, for anyone who cares.
