Is there a specific one for pump guns?
I had to do some cleaning in one. When it drys, I know there will be a lot of friction.
What should I get to eliminate that?

Silicon Lubricant.

Is it Silicone, or Silicon? I just assumed it's Silicon.

So a K-Y jelly sorta of lubircant will work fine, since they come silcon based I belive.

Someone had this idea a while ago. K-Y won't usually work well, as it's made to last a few hours, and not leave much residue/etc. whereas a silicon spray is made to last for days.

KY Jelly is water based. You need silicon based. Silicone based lubricants for sexual purposes are much less common, as they are not condom safe.

Just get industrial silicone spray lube.

I use Vaseline petrolium jelly. It works fine.

Vasaline slowly eats the rubber o-rings of spring guns, so it's not good for a lubercant. Same goes for WD-40

For the best lubricant do what Prometheus, and telekinetic said 100% silicon based lubricant, you can get it at any hardware store for around $4-6, don't use wd40 it slowly eats away at plastic, ky get's really sticky after a coupel hours and petro-jelly i guess is a quick fix, won't last very long gets nasty

Petroleum based products such as Vaseline will also eat O rings eventually. Use either Silicone lube or any appropriate "gun oil" that is used in paintball guns.

You can just use paintball lube. It is designed to prevent o-rings from swelling/wearing down.

Well, he was clearly asking about " a specific one for pump guns" I don't know about you guys, but my gun tends to take more than one pump, eh?

It also appears many of our members know more about "eating rubber" than previously believed.

On an unrelated note, if you replace the spring in a gun you'll also want to put in a more powerful trigger spring. Otherwise, your "gun" will go off before you see any "action", and you won't have any "ammo" when it's time for "gunplay".

AJAQ, Silicon Lube works in pump guns, you just spray it down the valve. It's especialy good at fixing broken splitfires, I've found.

So I put silicon lube on the shaft and I started pumping. After about 5 pumps it got hard to pump. so I stared pumping harder and faster. After about 10 more pumps the lube oozed out of the tip......



Anyway.


On a more serious note,(even though all of that was true) What if I get mineral oil?? No one has answered that yet.

Mineral oil may dry to fast to get any results, but I don't use it so I don't know. I prefer to use a Lithium silcon hybrid spray for automotive parts. Works OK for nerf guns. And why all of a sudden am I reading posts about K-Y on a NERF site. I mean really, I prefer the occasional off color joke, but when you start getting a whole posts about them, bunch o' perverts.

Ok, well let me just state all this in one post:

Silicone lubricant is SAFE for use with condoms. In fact, silicone lube is sometimes used instead of water based lubes for a good reason: it will never dry up or evaporate. Water based lubes are cheaper, but you have to use more of it for the same effect as silicone. Though it is not reccomended to use AUTOMOTIVE silicone lubricant during sex, since it is absolutely ice cold out of a spray canister. I mean, ouch.

Vaseline, Lithium grease, WD-40, and any other petroleum based lubricant is not safe for condoms OR Nerf guns. They will eat away rubber. I'm not sure about Lithium hybrids, so I guess I'll trust a first hand account of that.

K-Y Jelly is water based. Besides this, it is designed to dry up and be easily removed. If you try using K-Y Jelly in a Nerf gun, either spring powered or pump action, it will work. For about 12 hours if you use a lot. After that, it will either completely dissapear, or become dry, flake up, and clog your pump or plunger to hell. Easy to clean up with water alone, but you don't want to.

Also, silicone spray doesn't ooze. So, nice attempt, but ew.

I've used vegetable oil with some success, I know that Carbon used it in his early SNAPs.

Also, if you do end up using K-Y, make sure to give them a nice phone call to complain about their product after you use it and gum up your plunger.

Well mineral no one really knows if it works I guess...


Since I work in a the kitchen and I always am a baker for my school and work we use mineral oil for out mixers.
and it usual is long lasting. Like really long lasting.
I guess ..then again thats on a metal mixers.

I guess Ill have to try this one myself.

In my very early days, I used motor oil to lubricate my homemades.

Since then, though, silicone spray is where it's at. It's not terribly expensive, and a can will last you indefinitely.

I usually give my guns a thorough cleaning with "Rem Oil" then lube them with some good ol` silicon spray.

Step 1: Clean whatever parts you are lubricating with water until ALL grime, burrs, PVC and plastic shavings, etc. are gone. Use Guardsman's Goof-Off to remove E-tape and lubricant residues.

Step 2: Dry the parts with a towel or paper towel.

Step 3: Use appropriate amounts of silicone lubricant and apply them to the moving parts.

Step 4: If it is a pump or plunger, move it back and forth in the tube a few times to ensure equal distribution.

Step 5: Completely reassemble gun.

Step 6: Check gun every few weeks, and remove built-up dust, grime, and other unwanted substances from the parts in the same method as Step 1, making sure to re-apply the lubricant if you rinse them.

WD-40 and Vaseline destroy O-rings because of their composition. Safe substances such as silicone spray should be the only ones that come near your guns. K-Y Jelly, for those who need to keep it around for reasons I'd rather not delve into, is one of the other banes of your gun, because it becomes useless in a few hours and is just not something you want to advertise that you used on a Nerf gun. Despite the temptation to use it when you hear them called "plastic toys."
