How I added a trigger.

Well, a while ago, I bought the Umbrella gun, and did some basic mods to it. I did safety removal, and added a barrel.
I enjoyed it, but one thing bothered me, and that was the push-button trigger. Solving that problem took a few days, and some experimenting, but I was satisfied in the end.

I present, my new and improved National Geo Gun-

The trigger, although not in the most convenient place, gets the job done well. It sure is better that having to press the button with my thumb.

Here's a picure of the inside.

I drilled a 3/8 inch hole in the case, and made a trigger out of a few things. I'll get to that soon, but first.....

This is what I took the trigger from. Its a cheepo, made-in-china, snap-on "Spray Paint Gun"

The gun just pops open, and you can easily take the trigger out.

I made the (national geo gun) trigger out of this, a small wooden dowel, and a small piece of plastic from the original push-down trigger.

This isn't a write up, I know, but feel free to ask questions. I'll try to answer them.

Not a bad idea. How reliable is it? Also, why did you cut a slot all the way down tha handle? Couldn't you just remove the plastic where the trigger rested and moved?

AllStar: I got it at target.

SHA: It's held up so far, (two days :lol:

) but it really should be fine. Where I connected the small piece of plastic, and the trigger body is solid. I used loctite superglue, and a small screw. You can see it on the top of the connection. (The small yellow piece of plastic that is angled at 45 degrees, there is a small shiny thing. That is the screw's head. It goes down about a centimeter into the trigger body.) Also, just so you know. The plastic trigger is actually pretty thick, It certainly doesn't feel flimsy. As to why I cut a slot down the entire handle, I incorrectly measured some things. Its no big deal.

Edit: If by reliable, you meant if there were misfires, I haven't had any so far.

By misfires, I actually meant if there were times it would get stuck and keep the tank open, or if it would slip and accidentally trip the tank. I probably should have explained it a little better. On a side note, how forcefully do you have to pull the trigger? Is it about the same resistance as an NF trigger, or what?

Also, how many pumps does it take to fill the tank? If the pump tube is flimsy or needs reinforcement, try adding a vertical section of 3/4" PVC between the pump cylinder and the barrel and glueing it there for reinforcement and as a vertical foregrip.

Just out of curiosity, is it similar in size to the titan? The airtank looks quite large.

Also, is it accurate when stefans are used (if you use stefans)?

Yourface: I haven't tested range, but the rocket that comes with it goes pretty far.

On a side note, I am talking about the rocket that comes with the red version (it looks like a pointy dildo with flaps coming off the sides), the yellow launcher's airplane-rocket thing sucks. See, I had the Idea to put a trigger in when I only had the yellow version, I fucked that one's system up, because I cut the pump off intending to replace it. I bought the red version, and put it's internals inside of the yellow case which I had already done work to.

Zaxbys: No ranges yet.

SHA: Nothing like what you just descried has happened, I know that the trigger wont trip it accidentally, because of how it's fired, See, the red thing with the spring under it has to be pushed down. And that spring is quite beefy. That should answer both of your questions. (Yes the trigger pull is harder that most guns, but you don't notice it since it is pulled such a short distance.)

Thanks for the advice, I'll be sure to add reinforcement if I decide to make it shoot stefans (I like to use the rocket though). It takes 30 pumps to get it to scare the shit out someone, but the pressure release valve doesn't even kick in at 35 (and I haven't plugged it). That is lots of pumps. It's not so bad, it slows you down, but not hard to do. The pump is just so damn small.

Ixius:

There is a picure comparing it to a NF with the handle chopped off. Also, You can see the dick-rocket. I think that it looks hilarious.

z80: As I said before, no I didn't plug the pump.

Did you do a barrel mod? I can't tell if you have a stock barrel, or if you nested something in the original one.

Well, the barrel is actually part of the air tank. So no, the barrel is stock.

I must add, I just bought this gun today and it seems this mod would be extremelly useful.

I have to ask though, how do you put a new barrel on this monster? I can't figure out how to succesfully do it, seeing as the barrel is part of the airtank.

What I did, with my first gun, was take a piece of 1" Pvc (just long enough to cover the barrel) and a cut-in-half 1" Pvc coulper.
I connected the two pieces, and then, to center the Pvc over the original barrel, I wrapped the original barrel in a few layers of e-tape. Then with the coupler-side down, I slid it over the original barrel, and glued it down with plumber's goop.

Then, You could connect different sizes of pvc onto the end of the barrel.

Oh yeah, also the trigger is still unbroken. (Just so you know.)

I first want to say that this gun is AWESOME. Right now I dual wield it along with my maxshot and have gotten countless kills with it already. To attach a coupler you take a BBB plunger tube and glue it on the edges, then glue a coupler to that, for a barrel I used about 12' of CPVC nested inside PVC.

Just out of curiosity, why did you use a BBB plunger tube? Wouldn't it work better to just glue the coupler directly onto the end of the air tank?

it doesn't fit, on it directly because its got these edge thing on it which prevent you from glueing it directly onto the plunger tube if that makes sense. With the BBB plunger tube you have a flatter surface to glue on the coupler.

Shadow: That sure is a funky way to attach a barrel. I think that your barrel is too short though. This thing has so much air, 12" is just not enough.
