Would putting a crossfire, scout, longshot front gun, or maverick spring into the Nitefinder (combo with the regular spring) make the range better?

They're all too short. Plus, some of the springs may have trouble nesting in each other (I.e., the Mav. spring won't fit into the NF spring). I recommend taking Handyman spring #9713 and using that alone or with some bungee cords. Just make sure to reinforce the shell and plunger assembly very well.

Well, if all that you have on hand is those springs, then use the crossfire spring. It nests inside the stock nf spring with no problem, and will give you a very nice range increase. Hope this helps.

All i did with spring replacement on mine was go to home dopot and grab a handymanspring 9713 package. All the other springs i looked at to try and double it up were to short. Angel used a long spring in his pump shot gun mod that i was trying to lokk for. it might work but it was kind of hard to see if it could fit just from a picture. You might want to look for that. If you really wanted mor you put a piece of pvc behind the spring to make itget better compression like in the big bad bow spring replacement mod in the directory. Then just put some rubbeer band on it and it sould increase the range noticeably.

EDIT: I was look at other threads and saw the the charlie brown guy used the spring out of a toilet paper holder in his nitefinder the the original one.

No.

The springs FA used are far too long for a NF.

Not very hard to find.

If you don't see the Handyman spring at your local hardware store, look for one labeled #49. It should be about the right size and shape, but much stronger. I seem to recall that it was an Ace spring or something, but I found mine unlabeled but for the number at my local Hector's Hardware.

Well I got my Dad to drive me 20 minutes to Home Depot and there was absolutely no springs that matched the Nitefinder one. Went to Ace Hardware the next day (5-10 minutes away) and they had the sping that fit. The thing is that I tried putting the sping into my Nitefinder but it seems like the whole thing is going to explode. I can't even fully compress the spring with my hands and the gauge is pretty thick. I think I'll just try finding a crossfire spring instead.

Well, if you have a TTG, then use that spring. It adds quite a bit of power to the gun, but it negates the ability to use the original NF spring.

If you got the Ace #49 spring, don't worry about the power – it seems excessive/dangerous/explosive, but it's not as long as you use proper reinforcement and never, ever dry-fire.

Why not dry fire though?

If you dry-fire a spring gun that has had its spring replaced and/or has been banded, then there won't be anything to provide resistance and slow the plunger (the dart, in other words). This causes the plunger to slam into the front of the plunger tube at full speed and will cause damage immediately or over a few shots. Air-pressure guns can be dry-fired because they don't have any parts that must contact in so violent a manner.

Shit. I think I will just try finding a crossfire spring and double it with my current Nitefinder one... then just band it a bit.
