I was at a gas station and I saw an mp3 player for around $40 or so. It looked like an iPod, had a built-in radio-tuner, and 512MB memory. Does anyone have any idea?

Might be an iRiver if it looks like an iPod. You'd really have to include pictures for anyone to get exactly what it is.

Edit:

Though I've never seen an iRiver for $40... I'm pretty sure they're over $100.

Pictures also help. We would at least know what we are trying to identify.

What does buying 4 Nitefinders with $40 have to do with buying an MP3 Player? Note this is on an Off Topic Forums.

Trace,
If your currently looking to find a new Mp3, go for iriver for a flash player. But if your looking for a hard-Drive based one, go for the Ipod or Zune. the player you saw at the Gas station, its probably one of those Made in China players. If it looks good and it gots a good brand name, buy it if thats what you want for $40.

(Sighs) What Mp3 Player doesnt look like an Ipod. There are millions of players that have that 4-way round directional button and a screen.

Yeah I'm sure it's a piece of shit. I did look at the x20 and really wanted to get it until I saw the mobiBLU BOXON.
pros- VoIP, podcast downloading software, cuteness factor.
Cons- no sd slot, 160x128 screen, 2GB max
I think this is a good player for me because I would mostly use it for podcasts and movies. I wouldn't think a 160x128 movie would take too much memory and I'm used to small screens.
EDIT: N-Strike PMed me about the MoblBLU site and I forgot to give him credit. My deepest apologies. The site is http://www.mobibluamerica.com.

That looks like an interesting player. I've never actually heard of VoIP on an mp3 player before. If you get it, I'd like some more info on it if it's not too much trouble.

I never heard of the mobiBLU BOXON, but its very similar to the Iriver Clix.

iriver site

Its much more better in features, sound and memory.
I really recomend it.

2nd Genration Clix
• Plays music, video, photos
and more
• 4GB internal storage
• Supports subscription music
services
• Ultra-bright, 2.2” AMOLED color
display
• Built-in digital FM tuner

1st Generation Clix

Ultra-compact 4 GB digital media player with support for music, video, photos, or downloadable games
Stores roughly 64 hours of MP3 (at 128 kbps) and 128 hours of WMA (64 kbps) files; built-in FM tuner
Vivid 2.2-inch color LCD display with 320 x 240 resolution; direct-click touchscreen control interface
Supports MP3, WMA, ASF, Ogg, JPEG, MPEG-4, and Flash Lite 1.1 files; compatible with PlaysForSure services
10 EQ settings and SRS WOW sound; measures 2.7 x 1.8 x 0.6 inches (W x H x D); 1-year warranty

The diffrence between the two is that in the second generation has everything the 1st gen has but in a better more conveniate way. Plus you can change the back ground colors with custom themes. I have the 1st generation and it served me well.

Generally, buying electronics from a gas station convenience store = not too good an idea. Especially if it's a brand name you've never heard of before.

Made in China? Look around, just about everything you own now, including electronics, are made in China. It's a scary thought. Look at all your stuff. Including, I think, Nerf blasters.

Better to go to Best Buy, Circuit City, or even Wal*Mart.

EDIT; Sheet, people. Look at where your Longshots are made. NI HAO!!

Hell if thats scary, I heard that soon that cars will be made in china. Domestic and Imports. They should name all the Dollor Stores to Made in China store. Well Piney, even the Nice products of BestBuy and CCity say Made in China. My Iriver Clix says Assembled in China even though the parts are from Korea.

Really? Do you think these companies buy a majority proudly American made product range?

Anyway, I suppose it's happening in the USA as well, but Mattel toys is recalling half a million plus toys made in china, due to small parts falling off and high readings of lead paint.

I've decided to get the Clix gen2. I haven't decided 2GB vs. 4GB yet. It's a long time 'til Christmas so I'll have plenty of time to decide. BTW are there any other ways for a 13 year old to get money other than lawn mowing, baby sitting, selling stefans, moddifying nerf guns, selling custom homemade pens, and having your sister sell homemade bracelets(sp)? I went on a long vacation and I'm a sucker for giftshops.

Little kids are gonna be depressed for a while now because all their toys are from china and they just got recalled. watch out for rampaging todlers looking for new toys!!

I recommend Creative music players a lot. I had a Zen Micro, and now have a Zen Vision:M. They are both great players.

As far as Iriver's go, I HATE them. My mom has one and I despise the Windows Media Player-based interface. It's very hard to work with.

Well your mom's player had to be one of the older models right? 'Cause I know that some of those T-800 HD crap things suck from before, or so I heard. Though Iriver took it up a notch in the last 3 years with the U10 and clix. Cheack out their players now shadow. You wont be dissapointed
