Is there anyway to cut a breech into brass without using a dremel? If so, how?

it would be hard with the corners but if you cut at angles it is possible...

I advise that you get a Dremel, they provide you with a lot of flexibility in mods. As for the breach, I don't sugest that you even try right now. There is no easy way, since a hacksaw will not cut lengthwise across a small portion of the tube. Any other options would be far too difficult.

well just make those angles match up and ta da. it would be easier than a 90 degree.

Yeah I do need to buy a dremel. I can't even believe I used that abbrieviation (sp?). Im on aim right now so it slipped. I apologise.

The bits that you will need for all purposes. From left to right: reinforced cut-off wheels (for cutting in straight lines. Try to find the carbide or diamond cut-off wheels for more durability and a longer effective life), multipurpose cutting bit (cuts with its sides and cannot be used as a drill, but it is good for widening holes and cutting curves that a cut-off wheel will not be able to complete), rotary cutters/burr removers (I use the lowest one pictured, but any of them ought to do. These remove burrs, or shards of material that need to be cleaned off of the piece, and can cut notches in the material as well. They work like the multipurpose cutting bit, only cutting with their sides). Also try to buy a multi-speed Dremel that will be comfortable for you to hold. They usually come with some of the bits seen here, so you may not have to buy everything separately.

its not easy but I've done it for several of my mods (I have yet to get around to investing in a Dremel). I did this by drawing the rectangular breech on the brass and making many diagonal criss-crossing cuts (e.g. X's). From there, I slowly bent/pried of the triangular sections as needed and filed down the edges. This needs to be done carefully - you don't want to warp the brass tubing. Takes a long time but it is possible.

I have cut breeches in pvc and brass with a hack saw. I cut many small sections horizantally and then ripped them out with pliers. Then sanded it out.

If a hacksaw proves unwieldy, try using a jeweler's saw instead. They can cut through what you'll be working with much easier due to the much smaller size of the blade, and you should be able to find them at any hobby shop.

I read this thread and started making a breech with a hacksaw and needlenose pliers. Looks bad. But I think I got the right concept. well I put it in my couplerd maxshot put the dart in and it just fell to the ground.. I think that barrel is way to tight..

Do you have pictures? Those could help us tell you what's wrong.

I'm pretty sure there's a topic in the modifications board with this exact name that details how to make a breech without a dremel

CaptainSlug did FA24's LS breech without a dremel. He doesn't even own one.
