I decided to mod my nerf nite finder as my first mod.I've removed the air restrictors and am now adding a new spring.I decided to use one of the reccomended springs, the handyman 9713 from Home Depot. The problem is,the spring is too long and the plunger shaft (orange long tube) won't fit correctly inside the gun.Should i cut the spring down a bit?If i do that, will it effect it's power too much? Thanks for the help.

I don't know (I've never used the handyman springs), but you can find out more here.

For maximum efficiency?

1. Pump up. Count how many pumps.

2. Keep going until you hear a loud "bang".

3. Subtract one pump from the total. Rebuild your air bladder.

There you go.

Ok thanks.I searched that that thread already.I tried cutting my spring with needle nose pliers. The pliers broke and one piece flew at such awesome speed that it hit my new goggles and managed to pierce through it.The piece of metal is now in the middle of the plastic...

Now i just need to know how to cut down a spring without inflicting myself serious injuries.

With a Dremel or a smallish bolt cutter.

Glad to hear you were wearing safety glasses, and that you didn't get caught elsewhere on your face.

Ok the dremel was working for a minute then it just stopped cutting for some reason. This is HARD.How do you cut down the handyman9713 spring? Can i use some sort of heat-producing machine to weaken a part of the spring?

If you decide to get another spring, I would suggest an ACE # 49 because the length is perfect, and it provides great increase in range.

Otherwise I cut my springs down with either a hack saw with a metal cutting blade, and the spring in a vise, or I use a jigsaw with a diamond tipped blade, and again the spring in a vise.

I never used a handyman spring , but if u can get somthing else I strongly suggest Ace springs (7/8x4x.080 is the dimensions) or (C-836 is the sping number i think). When you get it you should cut it alittle only, it requires allitle muscle, but it increase the life of ur NF alot. I personaly did this and im selling it in the trading section (the title is Selling Nf (gets 80ft) ). well anyways I hope You are succesful in your modding

What bit were you using? A cutting wheel or grinding wheel has worked perfectly for me in the past - make sure you are using a bit designed to cut metal.

A dimmond coated cutting wheel will work wonders. They're usually about $6 and are sold at the hardware area or where ever brass is sold.

Cuts through plastic like butter too.
