Well, I'm going to be creating some videos here shortly and want to add some music/effects... what program would you guys recommend? Something that isn't too complicated, but I want to be able to sync music, create effects and edit the videos. Different filetypes supported would also be good. Any advice would be cool, thanks!

I use the Adobee Production Studio programs, I.E. Premire Pro, Audition, After Effects and Encore DVD. I just got the CS3 Versions of them and I can't wait to install them. It's worth noting that I also run my own film editing buisness so that's why I use the top of the line programs.

I use the cheap 'n dirty microsoft movie maker. It's very simple and ideal for small projects.

If you're doing anything higher scale, then I've always had good times with Adobe Premier. I'm starting to learn how to use the Sonic MyDVD, which is probably on the level of MS Movie Maker's simplicity. I'm sure these sound like caveman's tools compared to some of the hardcore video editing software out there. It all depends how big/complex the project is. Sometimes I like to use simpler programs because I don't need all the features for the little clip I'm working on. Othertimes, all the bells and whistles go a long way.

Of all my very short clips demonstrating nerf mods here, I have used MS Movie Maker.

I'm on XP Pro.

Frost, did MS Movie Maker come with your OS? Or did you have to dl it?

Thanks for the info Bags, but I think that's a little much for me.

The MS Movie Maker is part of the MS Office pack. At least, that's where I got it from. I don't think they sell that exclusively (as in without the rest of the Office programs), but you might be able to download it or certainly something similar. I'll look around and if I find something good that's not already posted I'll give you the site. I have the same OS as you and am also looking for some different programs, just to experiment and contrast with MS software.

Yes, that would be why I asked him about OS.

Adobe is good if you're a student; they practically give it away.

Ya, good point with the adobe, I find it cheap, and hard to use though.

Camtasia Studio is a good one... ideal for small to medium sized projects.

I have used Adope Premire and I liked it a lot. I currently use magix movie edit pro 11. It's a knock off of the Adobe systems pretty much, but it works well and was $50.

Try SourceForge if you haven't already. It's the biggest database of shareware I've ever seen and there are plenty of video editing programs on there.

I've got XP Home, but no Office, and after I installed XP, I had Movie Maker - so perhaps it's a part of the OS?

I know Groove uses Videomach(or did on Chronicles of an East Coast Nerfer 2006).

Note: SourceForge is a tricky site. I'd recommend browsing projects(top button, "Projects") rather than searching. Find the proper category and then narrow it down on the tree on the right. Then, use filters to your liking. I have more success with it this way.

Frost, I just found Microsoft Movie Maker (I guess it comes with windows xp pro), and I love it. Very easy to use, and for the simple videos that I'm making, it's a blast. Thanks again guys.

I'm glad that you found it. It's a nice, simple, and FREE program that I still toy around with.

If you're ever interested in larger projects and more complex editing tools, then there are some great suggestions in this thread. I normally just use movie maker when I'm doing anything that lasts less than 10-15 minutes.

It's the "MSPAINT" of video-editing programs that's nice to use even after learning some of the better editing packages.

I was recently digging through all my old softwares and I found Cyberlink PowerDirector.

It's not free, but it's pretty good.
