As most of you are probably aware of, a bridge on one of Minnesota's biggest highways collapsed into the Mississippi River today, killing several and injuring many. I feel it is pertinent to make mention of this and to encourage you all to turn your thoughts and prayers to those who are experiencing the impact of the event. It was indeed a shock.

It hit close to home for me too, because I attend school only a couple miles from the bridge and have crossed it often on the weekend. I called my buddy today to make sure he was ok, and apparently he avoided taking that bridge today on his way home from work. Had he not, it could have been quite possible that he could have been caught up in the traumatic experience there. It's tough to imagine how panicked many of the families of the victims must be. I wish the best to those involved in the accident and hope for a quick recovery.

He's the only one I know....as far as memory serves me, that resides in MN. Does those two crazy kids, elf_avec_gun and Flaming Hilt, live in MN also? Lets hope they're all okay.

I live in Plymouth, MN but my girlfriend's grandparents live in Duluth, fairly close to the bridge. I just traveled that bridge a week ago. Kinda eerie I guess.

Thanks for worrying about me, I'm alright. I guess there's a first time for everything; never been near something tragic like this before.

My mom works at the downtown library, and I have a few friends at the U of M, but myself and everyone I know are unharmed. I was working all night tonight slingin' dough at the Lil' Caesar's, but my heart goes out to anyone who lost a loved one here in Minnesota.

P.S. my local cell phone couldn't get through to any other phone #'s in the Minneapolis area, anyone know if that's common when lots of people are using the phone networks?

That's very common. Networks aren't designed to handle that many people on the system at once. On the news last night they were urging people to stay off their phones, since communication lines for rescue workers were tied up. I would think that they'd communicate on alternative frequencies, but whatever they need to get the job done.

My thoughts and prayers go out to that area, the victims, and their families.

I live a couple miles away, you just never suspect something like this would happen.

Anyone who lost a loved one, or who knows any families affected by this, my condolences to you. Far too many tragedies this year, but at least everyone here seems to be alright, if not a little shaken. I'll be watching the news tonight to see if anything else has happened with the rescue out there.

I live pretty close to the bridge and my dad goes on it weekly due to work. We got lucky though someone very close to us was almost trapped in their when the very last exit you take to get off of he took since the traffic was to heavy, at that time it was 6:04. We only live about 10 minutes away.

I am also also OK, Carrtoon is also in MN, but he lives in southern, so hopefully he's also OK. I was backpacking since Monday and just heard about this less than an hour ago, crazy shit.
My prayers and thoughts go out to that area, the victims, and their families, as well.

My Ex-girlfriends brother was severely injured and was fortunately rescued in time before the rescue workers could no longer look.

He is close to me even though he is my ex's brother and I was truely scared when I heard the News.

Good to see your in good hands Janga and all other MN nerfers.

Brass, ask your mother.

She said your dad owes her three dollars.
