I know that boltsniper and many other people have used AR springs in their homemades and i was wondering if anyone can give me the dimensions(length extended, length compressed, diamert or radius) of the AR spring.

If I remember correctly, it is about 12" long. Everything else I don't really know.

If anyone has one laying around and could measure it that would be great. I just need the diameter the extended length and the compressed length

Why don't you just buy one? Get the carbine I heard its double the size needed for the LS.

If I remember correctly, mine is 7/8" diameter. Though I could be wrong. The springs I got from Gyrvalcon, from CaptainSlug, were 14" long uncompressed, and approx 4 3/4" long compressed.

One thing I never understood was why some people limited themselves to springs from guns. There are a lot of springs available in every shape and size imaginable. Try websites like http://www.mcmaster.com/ if you're looking for anything specific. The best part about websites like McMaster-Carr is that they give you the dimensions and tolerances usually, which helps a lot in the planning stages of any project.

I don't think it's so much that people limit themselves to springs from guns, per se...it's because the AR-15 spring is the one Boltsniper used, and a lot of people see no reason to mess with success. And anyway, Bolt probably used that spring because he already had an AR-15. It's like anyone...you tend to use what you have on hand.

I was looking to use this spring merely because it will fit my needs very well and multiple people have already used it succesfully. Why change something that is already proven to work well?

I measured mine yesterday. OD is 15/16", ID is 3/4", Length is 14". That makes the wire thickness approx. 3/32".

I've also noticed that 1/2" CPVC fits into it, with room for the spring to move around it. I used a small piece on the back of my plunger to hold the spring on, without fixing the spring solid. The srings also fits into 1" Thinwall 200 PSI PVC.
