Please post your opinions along these guidelines:
1. Do they look cool? What about other colors of camo such as blue? [as opposed to the usual bush green]
2. Are they practical for losing or stealth? Even if you had one, would it make much of a difference in a war?
3. Are they worth paying for/working for? Is the look worth the time or money?
Any opinions are appreciated. I am looking for answers because I wonder if I should sell camo jobs to ebayers or NIC members. To prevent me posting a stupid listing or paint job just give me your 2 cents based on questions 1-3.
Thanks for your time

1. I'm a little picky on what looks cool; usually it varies from gun to gun. I wouldn't paint your entire arsenal in camo but one or two guns might be cool. And yes, I do think the color variations can be great. Experiment with different combinations though... IE if you're going for blue, don't be afraid to do gray, black or green instead of just dark and light blues.
2. Probably not as much as you'd think, but more than the people who condone the word douche bag think. It's certainly less visible than the bright yellow, orange, and black pjs Hasbro switched to recently.
3. In my opinion, it depends. If you plan on using the colors for other things, then yes. But a good camo job would probably require spraypaint, and buying three or four different colors of paint for one gun is a little over-the-top (in my opinion). If you were going to eBay a bunch of them, then it'd be fine but if you don't plan on painting anything else with the paint, then it's probably a waste.
The only time I can see camo be useful is during a war fought in the woods or at night. But because more darts get lost in both situations, they are played less than daytime games. However, if its done well, a camo paintjob has the potential to look very cool.
I do second that.
...and ideas are bulletproof. "

Actually I just did a black, grey/chrome, and blue one with hammered on silver barrels, cocker rod, and trigger. I would post a pic but my computer/camera cord is in the mail coming from my friend's house that I left it at. I'll post it when I get the cord.
EDIT: gun painted was a NF

Don't get me wrong... I still think camo jobs are cool, heck, even I do them occasionally:
Anyway... If you want to offer a Paint Service, go for it, good luck making any money... So far I think the only person who regularly makes anything form that Is Direct Threat. I've only had 2 people in the NIC actually pay me to Custom paint guns for them, because it's a pain for them to pay to send it to me, and to get it back... not to mention material costs, and the cost of the actual WORK... Most people in this community aren't willing to pay that... no matter HOW GOOD you are, I KNOW.

I didn't really say I was going to offer a painting service, but hey, if someone wants it, I'd be glad to do it. I was going to paint my own guns, then sell them on ebay or here, but people here get first dibs if they want it. Of course I would like to have the skills such as yours or threat's, but I think no one here is polluting ebay yet, and I'm sure some of the 100000's + of people that get on ebay will like them, even if it is a small percentage. Anyway I'll show a pic of the gun when my cable dealy gets here.I think that Camo Jobs have their place in Nerf, and there's all kinds of ways to do them. But I really don't think they serve Any Tactical advantage, then again, I use Nerf tactics like running around a corner yelling "NACHOS!" or "Prepare you bladder for Imminent Release!"

On the topic of that... That Manta I posted... Only sold for what I listed it for, and it was bought by a forum member, I'm not trying to discourage you, I'm just saying it isn't easy. And it's just as much about being lucky as it is being good.
In reference to the fact that I posted, I'm not that special, yeah I'm a Diligent modder, Paint my guns well, I'm Legitimately active in SoCal Nerf, and I'm quite literate...But That's all... I don't deserve any fucking hero worship...It's just weird.

Well that's fine, I actually sold a three panel paint job NF that was modded for 51 and then a flat job with barrel/trigger and cocking rod silver and body black for 40. A dtb I painted also sold for 41, I believe, so I think I'll be okay in the respect of selling them. Thanks for the advice though, I'll keep it in mind. And about the hero worship, sorry, and although I like your painting, it was kind of a joke. I'm just a fan of cool pj's and you are definitely in the big three.
Back to topic however, I only have 3 views on camo paintjobs... anyone else?

Since I'm new and everything, I would like to get a few opinions on thoughts about paint jobs with the camo pattern.
1) They look extremely cool, and I wouldn't mind having camo along the lines of blue/ purple/gray.
2) I consider myself relatively experienced in Nerf (6 years), and I play with stock colored blasters (as in orange/blue SM1500s, orange/purple SM5000s, red and blue AT2000s), and cannot see any advantage to having the blaster painted in camo or not. Then again, we play mostly urban-styled CTF or elimination so movement is king rather than "camping" or hiding. And things like Baghead's yelling "Prepare your bladder for IMMINENT RELEASE!" is more my tactic than doing the Mark Wahlberg thing.
3) I think if you want camo you should experiment with your blasters, make it your own, unless there's something you absolutely must have (and I'd love something by Baghead, with wild colors...that's more of the spirit of practical Nerfing, although Direct Threat's cosplay jobs are something to behold, too...just not my cup of tea.). Then, and only then, would I consider a commission, and that would only be through a process of PMs/ e-mails to make absolutely sure the painter and myself are on the same page. That would prevent me from being disappointed with the end result.
That said, I'd probably do it myself.
I'm not even going near the eBay part. That's a whole nother strange world there. Like the Bakara Market in Mogadishu.
If you're thinking of doing ANYTHING for hire, to blasters belonging to anyone on NerfHaven, NerfHQ, or anyone else in the active community, I'd do a "search" on a fellow named Starbuck, or TheNoid (on NHQ). Read about Artemis Arms, what he offered to do, and the resultant feedback. Ask yourself if you're willing to commit an inordinate amount of time, not only doing paintjobs, but disassembling, prep, reassembling, packing, mailing, doing your accounting, and dealing with being timely on your work. There are still people waiting on their blasters from AA, and Starbuck, though I still think well of him, has a lot of explaining to do to folks like Nerfer 34.
That's why White Dog Armory is primarily a free service, and pretty much limited to Hawaii (although Hound_Dawg hasn't taken up my offer to mod AT2ks for them yet). Just about every Nerf blaster that's been modified in Hawaii (especially Honolulu and Molokai) has been done by me. I do it for fun, not profit.

But really, it looks really cool if done good, but its not worth the time to get a few questions and some credit (unless your Baghead's Manta Ray) in my opinion....
Also- What about paper machia-ing (sp!) your guns and putting a clear coat of whatever over it?

I think your idea of a camo paint job would look cool especially if you did them in different schemes such as woods, desert, snow, urban, etc. It would add flair to the look of many guns. Good luck.
I was thinking the same thing... like putting a small leaf and some twigs over my guns after giving it a basecoat and then spraying over. Snow and desert is a good idea too. Thanks again for all your help everyone. Of course more opinions are welcome.

The one thing that you absolutely need to understand is that if you take this on as a big project, you need to become familiar enough with taking these guns apart and putting them back together again that you can do it fast, and in batches of 5-10, even 15 or more at a time. I have 17 Mavericks that I'll be taking apart, taking off logo's, adding various wear and tear, priming, basing, and putting back together on Tuesday afternoon.
Have a workspace set up. Something with lots of space, something semi-permanent. Get either a big piece of foamboard on a slant or less effective, cardboard, label each gun on the sheet, and punch your screws into it, lay tape out to put all your odds and ends and springs on. Get a method for unscrewing guns, do it the exact same way, every single time. All this really helps getting through these fast.
Just my two cents, hope it helps.

Thanks, pmed. Any more ideas are welcome. If you do decide to do this on a commission or ebay basis, feel free to get in touch with me, I could probably save you a LOT of headache by telling you want to avoid and such. Ebay is such a pain in the neck that I rarely use it more than once a month, and thats really just to drum up commission sales.

I was having an intresting comversation with one of my friends about your new camo paint job. It looks really sweet but when will you ever have to hide your gun in a place with white, blue, and purple. Come to think of it, When do those colors appear next to each other in nature? So on the subject of camo'ing. Its only worth it if you actually camo it. If you put werd colors in a camo pattern then its not worth it. However if it was jungle or desert camo it would be cool.
Never heard of Urban Camo, eh? There are lots of camo patterns that have nothing to do with blending into natural surroundings.

Yes I have. My uncle just came back from saudi and more reletives in the army. And i can't tell you how much urban camo sucks. I great example is in Rainbow six Vegas. They have a really good camo system. You can wear the blue and purple poke a dot camo. EVERYONE SEES YOU and you get killed right away. Go for a black or dark color and move fast, they never know your thier. And by the way, by defenition camoflage is the act of blending in to your sorroundings.

1: I had no real camo paint, [will get some soon]
2: I like blue camo.
Yes, camo is not at all practical unless it matches your surroundings. However I'm not going to eat shit people with my NF from under cover, but as ninja said, [and I dare to agree] it looks cool. So to summarize I think a real camo job would do well for a longshot or c-bow, but for every person there is a different style, and mine for that NF was blue camo. It wasn't meant to be practical at all. However I will paint one real camo as soon as I get the paint, you can always check out my latest at the paint job show off thread pinned at the top, [I'm sure you knew that but for the sake of others]
Can't really figure how to end the message....
