Although I'm pretty new to the forums myself, I am tired of all the dumb asses that come here and make fools of themselves. I can only imagine what it is like for the older members.

This will serve as a guide on how not to be a noob.

1) Do not refer to yourself as a noob in any way, shape, or form. It will not help your cause and no one will take pity on you.
2) Do not start useless topics. . (self explanatory)
3) Grammar and punctuation are your friends. I don't care what you do, re-read. Even copy and paste it into word and spell check it.
4) Do not ask how to mod a gun, search for it. Search the Forums, then NHQ, then google. If you still cannot find it then ask.(You can also use the Mod Directorty LINK: http://nerfhaven.com...showtopic=7150)
5) Do not post in a topic just to post, Post something that will contribute to the thread. No one likes a post whore.
6) The edit button is also your friend. Don't double post.
7) Do not post e-bay auctions unless they are your own.
8) If you don't know what the fuck you are talking about, don't open your god-damned mouth.
9) Spell things correctly in arguments, or you just sound like a complete moron.
10) MOST IMPORTANTLY DO NOT PISS OFF THE ADMINS. They devote their time, which could most likely be better spent than banning morons.(but at the same time don't be a kiss ass.)

That is all for now, more to be added later.

Class Dismissed.

It is good to have this. Hopefully this will cut down on the things you mentioned.

I fail to see how your guide is any different from the CoC.

edit: july 9th, 2 am:

Since i'd like to stay under 100 posts, I'm going to just edit this one.

The problems I see with this thread are that it disobeys its own rule, and the CoC by the mere fact that a user would repost the CoC.
While the intentions are good, your delivery is poor.

Good nubs learn quick enough and the sucky ones get banned. Let darwinism take it's course and bear through the few posts a bad /mediocre nub will post.
There will always be nubs so there's nothing you can do other than quote the CoC when they make a few bad posts, and pretty soon they'll either clean up, leave, or they're off to b&l&

In truth it is no different then the CoC. Its more along the lines of a summary. Still, repetition is the best way to learn.

It's helpful to have this. But alas, I fear it is to no avail.

There is the CoC, Jergling's guide, and now this. There are probably many more. I don't think most of the newbs even check around the forum before they post, and if they do, then they are either incredibly stupid, or incredibly ignorant.

The scottish-dude just posted about 4 threads all having to do with the same thing. All of the questions could be answered by searching or looking at the stickies in that forum.

I really hope that the newbies either get better at following the rules, or they stop posting useless stuff.

I would like to add that while you shouldn't piss the admins off, you don't have to kiss ass either.

I'd also like to add that in arguments, always spell things correctly. And definitely know what you are talking about. Just about everybody can see when you are trying to bull shit around.

Exactly. I've been on other forums where someone comes back to all the points a noob makes and then the noob just responds "Oh yea?...well ur stupid" or something like that. It's hilarious, they're like little 6-year-old kids who want a toy. They have absolutely no reason or point but argue nonetheless.

Alice came to the fork in the road.
"Which road do I take?" she asked.
"Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat.
"I don't know," Alice answered.
"Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

are you kidding me? Take a break, this is a hobby man. I was just pointing out that it's not impossible to spout bullshit and be taken seriously. It was more a warning to people that even if somebody used technical language, they may still be full of shit. For example:

The problem with nightfinders is that their incredible modablility is incredibly inhibited by their low rate of fire. Coupled with their commonplace status as the weapon everybody has in their back pocket, the nightfinder is nothing more than a shitty over hyped toy, and i strongly recommend against purchasing it when two more dollars could get you the maverick, a high rate of fire weapon system with the hot looks of a texas style six shooter.

sounds educated, but it's total shit.

see?

In addition to not arguing with them mods, you might add not arguing with well respected individuals on the forum. Its not that hard to tell who they are. Look around a bit, you can't hardly miss them. As a side effect of being well respected, you can probably bet they know what they're talking about. If you're confused by something someone posted, ask them to clairify, don't go ape-shit on them. Chances are you'll just make yourself look like a fool.

A general rule of thumb that members tend to miss when they join would be to spend more time reading than posting.

I tend to notice that a lot of people have gone ape-shit on me, mainly because my "Join Date" is so recent. :)

I don't really see how this topic or the replies are really necessary to keeping this place running. It's hard to get users to read the Code of Conduct as it is. May I remind you that a copy of the Code of Conduct is emailed to all new users. Let's not forget the increasing number of stickies around here. I feel like NerfHaven is doing everything it can short of sending a veteran to your house to show you how to act. Add in the fact that we've had periods of increased leniency (or laziness) by the admin team.

If a new user can't adapt, then it is their own fault when they receive a 9999 special. Call this a lesson in Nerf Evolution (bonus points if you get the reference).

This will serve as a guide on how not to be a noob.

2) Do not Start Go ahead and use that punctuation you talk about at number 3 here, because Start does not get a big S useless topics. . (self explanatory)
3) Grammar and Punctuation Sorta like the above, but this time its more ironic are your friends.
5) Do not mention that you searched and found nothing, it will never help your cause. Way to contradict number 4. Not only does it let everyone know that you DID use the search button, but putting this in your post adds about a sentence to the whole thread.
9) MOST IMPORTANTLY DO NOT PISS OFF THE ADMINS. They devote their time, which could most likely be better spent than banning morons.(but at the same time don't be a kiss ass. You missed that ) here
10) Spell things correctly in arguments, or you just sound like a complete moron.
11) If you don't know what the fuck you are talking about. This period placement is the worst thing I've seen except when one shows up on a cruise DON'T open your god-damned mouth.

That is all for now, More Class, here we see what's called a comma, which is not followed by a capitalized word unless that word is a proper noun. to be added later.

Class Dismissed.

Alright, lemme break this down for you. I'm gonna forget about how shitty this list actually looks, and the fact that you put the most important item at number 9. Rather, I decided to highlight your weak features, ones where you provided instruction for improvement.

So, after some people actually comment on your thread, you call out Zaphod, but not Cennipe. Zaphod contended that bullshit is useful, which you'll hopefully learn someday, whereas Cennipe posted a more or less "That's cool" post. I'd side with Zaphod on this one, since Pineapple said in his last State of the Forums Address "That's cool" posts are to be looked down upon.

Get your fucking head out of your ass and into the game.

Thanks for that insightful post. Mantis, I'm not supporting Cennipe's "that's cool" post either. Zaphod's post and Cennipe's posts were both unnecessary. Furthermore, thank you for taking the time to actually read the entire post, and then rip me into an asshole. The reason why number 9 is "most important" is because I quickly edited it before running off and it never got changed.

Happy now Mantis?

I get the reference. I was supposed to work over at Nerf Evolution's mod department, but I put nerf on the backburner for a while.

Nerf Evolution was a site pioneered by the 'ole Foam Corner guys (Sandman, Cadmond... some other guys whose names escape me as of this moment) if I recall correctly.

Nerf Evolved....good times, good times.
Sandman and Cadmond were in on it, as were TIS and I. I think Evil may have contributed also but I'm not certain.

All I know is that Matthew Nitti is not one for doing things on time.
