After you spray paint your gun, you have to scratch it, sand it, etc. to make it look weathered. I don't think you can do it with spray paint alone. Here's a good link.

Weathering is by far the easiest painting technique you could ever do by hand. I don't understand why people want to paint something to look substandard (spraypaint, and no, unless your work looks like bags, don't tell me your spraypaint skills are anything BUT subpar), and make it a bigger hassle for yourself. Whenever I sit down to paint, weathering takes me the least amount of time compared to any of the other painting techniques I use.

Step One: Build Homemade with all metal parts.
Step Two: Spray single coat of flat black exterior paint over surface of gun.
Step Three: Use gun.
Step Four: Repeat step three until desired look is attained.

If you're really serious about it, look into prop making sites. There aren't a lot of people online who devote massive resources to making their nerf arsenal look weathered, but there are people who spend half their paycheck on working on their boba fett armor or improving their 'Aliens' machine gun.

Wow, nice.

But, one question. How well does that Maverick work? I wouldn't devote that kind of time and money to make a shitty gun like the Maverick look great. Unless it was a NiteMav...

Thanks shadowkid, but thats actually an older gun of mine, just the first one I nabbed out of photobucket to toss up here. Thanks for the crits though.

Yourface - I larp, or sells guns as props and whatnot, I don't really nerf much at all anymore. In my case, the maverick is an amazing sidearm to have in a less frenzied game than most nerf wars. Its got every available mod for base mavericks in it, fires fast and clean, and with a decent range. All in all, it cost me time, but really only a few bucks in paint that I already had sitting around.

That particular gun isn't for sale, its my personal gun, probably the only one I've ever kept and not sold. Keep an eye on the trading forum tonight or tomorrow morning, I'm just finishing up my pricing for gun commisions for the second half of summer. I just finished my summer projects about 2 times faster than I was anticipating, so I have a lot of open room.

I was sort of joking. I don't buy stuff from the Internet, except for actual company sites.

I just realized, we totally dominated this poor guy's thread. 9 out of 12 posts.
