Matrireals:Dart,unsharpened pencil.

How-to-make:
1:cut the edge of the pencil.(about 1cm long)
2:rip the sticky part of the dart off.
3:stick the pencil piece into the edge of the dart.(blow thru the darth to make sure air dosen' t come out.)

Results:you should end-up with a normal dart, exept the sticky part has been replaced with a 1cm long pecil piece.

Its a diffrent look. My first homemade dart I used a pencil Earaser and that worked fine for me untill I started useing bigger guns like the BBB, Titan, and ect. You should probaly glue the pencil in somehow. (sorry if it already is I cant see the picture)

Here are the reasons why your idea is bad:
1. The dart will fall apart after repeated firing
2. The is the possibility of wounding someone
3. They are most likely quite inaccurate
4. You waste a pencil for every dart you make

You might not waste a pencil for every one, if you sharpen it after you cut it off you might get 5 or 6 from a #2 pencil.
But you're right, not only could this wound someone, it could make them sick from lead(or whatever that stuff is, maybe graphite) poisoning if you had a gun that could break skin with it.

Yes the pencil could wound someone but it won't give them lead poisoning for two reasons.
1. "lead" in pencils are graphite, the lead you can get poisoning from is a heavy, comparatively soft, malleable, bluish-gray metal, sometimes found in its natural state but usually combined as a sulfide in galena.
2. A #2 pencil had punctured my ring finger when I was 9 and I am still alive, nothing was wrong with me, and I never got sick.

Graphite isn't toxic enough to seriously poison you in the small amount you would receive if poked by a pencil.

And seriously? You're shooting people with pencils? Even if they're unsharpened the wood could splinter and become sharp. Please don't shoot anything that isn't foam.

or hotglue, bbs, etc.try replacing the pencil with a thumbtack (pin towards the back of the dart) and covering it with hotglue. Or use a fishing weight instead of a thumbtack. In any case, every so often a new type of ammunition is invented that revolutionizes the nerfing community. This, however easy and cheap it is, is not one of them.

Alice came to the fork in the road.
"Which road do I take?" she asked.
"Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat.
"I don't know," Alice answered.
"Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

When I was about six, I poked myself in the hand with a pencil and it broke the skin. I have a mark under my skin on my left palm,it's been there ever since. Anyways, my slightly random story just goes to show that yes, pencil graphite is not toxic.

When I read it, I got the impression that he was talking about an unsharpened, new pencil - so the "pencil" was just a round wooden weight that was about the right size to fit inside a dart. And by "got the impression," I mean "read the first line of the post."

Matrireals:Dart,unsharpened pencil.

Anchor it in there with glue of some sort and you've got an easier-to-obtain alternative to BBs, fishing weights, etc.

Here are the reasons why your idea is bad:
1. The dart will fall apart after repeated firing
2. The is the possibility of wounding someone
3. They are most likely quite inaccurate
4. You waste a pencil for every dart you make

1. Not if it's constructed properly. But really, even my stefans fall apart after "repeated" firing - part of the normal wear-and-tear of being shot out of Nerf guns.

2. Point. BBs, steel shot, and lead fishing weights are much safer.

3. But you didn't bother to find out for sure, right?

4. You use 1cm long pencils? Mine are significantly longer, maybe up to 20cm. What about all those BBs, washers, and fishing weights wasted on regular stefans? Who will mourn their passing?

It's a new way of making darts that could be useful to people who don't have ready access to conventional dartmaking supplies.

Also, when I was a wee laddie, I stabbed myself in the palm with one of my dad's metal-tipped mechanical penciles - the one with a very skinny metal tube that surrounds the last couple millimeters of "lead" before it comes out. Embedded a piece of pencil lead in my hand (that was at LEAST 10 years ago), and it's still there, visible, to this day.

To add onto the pencil stabbing stories....

I stabbed myself right before a math test with a newly sharpened pencil. It was in there DEEP. The whole tip was in my right palm. So I went the nurse and she was digging through my hand with big needles and tweezers. It didn;t hurt at all until she got under a vein and yanked up on it.

My vein broke and I had this wierd inernal bleeding. It surprisingly wasn't painful. But yea, she eventuallly got some of the graphite out but still today there is a very distinct mark that is visible from 10 feet away on my hand. So don't stab yourself with pencils by accident!

You know if you really wanted to use pancilsm you could cut a half inch instead of a c. then use ductape to cover it and hold it in place. this way ithas decent weight distribution. and obviously dont sharpen the pencil.
this worksi have done it. they don shoot as far as stefans but they get good distance.

In the first grade, I stabbed myself in the palm with a real lead pencil. Bonded lead, made in 1990. There is still a faint mark, but it's not like anything really happened.

Anyway, as long as the tip of the pencil is covered with hot glue, the dart should be stable enough. Weights come out of normal stefans all the time, regardless of what's in there.
