I've had my Wii for about two weeks now, and I just found a handy little feature that includes saving games to a SD card. Even though I can find the wii's save file, I don't know how to extract it.

The file is a .bin inside about five folders, just wondering if anyone has found a way to hack this file, or even extract it. (I wouldn't mind having a level 9999 player or infinite health in Zelda)

I'm also surprised that on a generaly technological community that no-one else has talked about hacking consoles (there were a good deal of "which console do you like better" threads though).

Just asking, I don't mind if you have no idea. ;)

There are sites that most likely cater to this. Unless you know what you are doing or have well proven directions, I wouldn't try it. Just some thoughts.

I don't have a Wii, but I really want one.

If you've got a game backup as a .bin file, from what I was reading on one site (about chipping your wii) you burn it to a disc just like a .iso or .img etc etc.

But to read these you need to have your Wii chipped. Costs something like $39.95 and a few seconds of soldering.

Sounds risky man.

Research hard.

Soldering is not that bad. It's voiding your warranty to play burned games. I hope they come up with something like HDloader for the ps2. That thing is pure genius.

Everyone says WiiKey is best, I think.

I investigated all this, after I went to a torrent site and everyone was posting .img's of wii games.
I'm like, YOU CAN TORRENT WII GAMES?!?!

So if it's old news to you, I take it you wouldn't mind elaborating advantages and features and such, to those of us who are less informed of the technology?
Thanks for volunteering, that's great.

I'll look forwards to hearing about it then.

Just because I knew about it doesn't mean I have a Wii or have researched the capabilities. However, if you're looking for information you should definitely check out http://wii.qj.net/ and QJ forums and I'm sure you will find all you need.

How to Hack A PS2...

Step 1. Download Codebreaker 9 off the internet or surf the internet and buy off a website.

Step 2. Extract the whole code 9 files to your desktop and go in the folder and click "Run"

Step 3. After a couple seconds- a minute depending on size of files on computer it will say your cpu information and at that point you enter in a flash drive into your USB and click Extract to... The USB flash drive.

Step 4. Now attach the Flash drive into your USB port on the playstation and do not enter a game into the console. A little flash drive will appear next to the memory card in browser. Click it and move on to next step.

Step 5: At this point you are entering the Codebreaker 9 files. Extracted right from your computer. Now you click a game in the list of about every single game out for PS2 and check off all the cheats that you want to enable.

Step 6. At the top of all of this there is a tab that says "Security' click it and it will take you to the screen where you disable your PS2's "Firewall" and make it so that it passes through the DNAS Scan for online playing... By doing this you enable the use of burned games and so forth....

Now... Burning Games

Step 1. Basically this is the easy part. Way easier and less complicated than the Codebreaker9 part. Now all you have to do is find a game (google or like limwire) and look for games that are in a certain format (forgot exactly what it is... I think .bsp, and then after downloaded simply go to limwire or ares or morpheus or Itunes and click burn....

Step 2. But before transfering to be burned the file must be turned into a .mpg. (Simply download a file converter program.

Step 3. Now you are set. Convert the file and then transfer to be burned with whatever program you are using and simply burn to a cd and then enter the disk into your PS2..

What's the legality involved here, regarding "hacking" a Wii, or a PlayStation for that matter.

I'm a dumbass when it comes to tech matters, but I'm going to assume it has to do with modifying the console to accept pirated and otherwise non-retail purchased game programs, shared over the net...is that right?

Piney, it is illegal under Federal Copyright Laws. For us to post how to hack the game systems (there is another thread now for hacing the PS2) and to teach people how to burn games (illegal copying of write-protected material), we are advocating breaking the law. Don't anyone out there try to tell me otherwise. The law is plainly obivous. If you have to go through any type of means other than simply doing a direct copy, as in you need software to copy the disc and need to do something more than just placing a disc in the burner, it is illegal. No questions about it. Just because everyone does it doesn't mean it is okay. In time, the video game industry will crack down on it like the music inductry did on pirated music.

If you copy a game disc, you are pirating the software and are open to criminal and civil prosecution.

Playstation actually supports the modifying of systems because they get ideas for future projects from ideas from the majority of people of a certain forum... i used to be a member of a Playstation modification forum and there were actually members from playstation that supported and even recommended some ideas on the forum...

Put it this way... PS3 would never be here if it weren't for some nerd that hooked his playstation up and therefore they are very grateful that so many people are interested in improving the systems.

Substance Abuse, that is complete, total, utter bullshit. If you thought Sony was/is condoning homebrew and modifications to ANY of their products, you we're sadly mistaken. 95% of PS1/2/3/PSP modders install homebrew/modchips solely to play pirated images. Now, Sony gets a kickback from all games sold. You truly think they want to support the something that contributes to a loss in sales/loss in revenue?

They are making billions a year as it is... A couple pirated games are not going to "ruin" the economy.... There are only a very small percentage that do mod their systems...

Plus they are making money off the consoles that they sell to the modders to so... they win both ways...

And it is a fact that the PS3 was originate by a guy that sent in his idea of a modification to Sony.

But they're not actually making money off consoles...

They're selling the PS3s at a loss and its standard for other consoles to be originally sold at a loss.

And the PSP homebrew modding scene is constantly fighting firmware updates/upgrades.

Firmware changes to PREVENT hacking.

Hmm... I guess that explains why they release firmware updates to block such exploits? I don't know what someone submitting their idea for PS3 has to do with piracy, but ok.

TRUE THAT. They depend on games to make money.

It actually states it quite clearly in the Terms of Use, TIG. Since this is a violation of Federal Copyright Laws, it can not be posted here at NH. Plain and simple.

Substance Abuse and wldworld, whether or not they make money off of the systems and regardless of the volume of profit they make on the mass quantities of games that they sell, it is still illegal.

I'm pretty sure Piney covered that aspect pretty well. I don't see anywhere in my posts stating that it isn't illegal. I was simply trying to set him straight in the head, because he apparently thinks they support such piracy.

Wow, that got out of hand, please allow me to explain.

This has nothing to do with pirating, if you want to do that (and get banned) make your own topic. All I was asking was if anyone knew how to unpack a .bin file. The wii can save to SD cards, and I found the save file on the SD with my card reader. I don't know if I made that clear... So yes, it is saving a backup (somewhat) but it's built to do that, it needs a save file-I just told it to save to a removable disk.

I just thought I could open the binary pack and change some numerical values, like my wii-sports "pro level" (it would be nice to be level 9999)

Also, no, I don't really need help with Zelda, it's my brother's game, thanks anyway.

How did this turn into a discussion about PS2 chipping, and then being kicked off the forum and furtermore arrested? Funny how that works
