Has anyone had trouble sending nerf guns through checked luggage when flying? I'm going south for DCNO tomorrow, and I'd like to know whether I should chance it or just ship them.

Checked luggage shouldn't be a problem. It's legal to put real guns in the cargo compartment as long as they're declared, so some plastic foam-shooting kids' toys shouldn't be a problem.

I even got through carry-on with them once. Oops.

Just bubble-wrap them with painters tape as if you were going to be shipping them and then put them in a semi-rigid suitcase (not a duffel bag).
I once checked a whole rackmount computer on a trip to and from Boston. I simply wrapped it in two layers of foam waffle-pad then armored the outside of that with sheets of plastic, then stuffed that whole wad into a huge suitcase. Came out fine both times minus a few loose screws I have to fish out and put back in place.

I've never had problems putting Nerf guns through checked luggage. If it was on the plane, that might present a problem.

I took my SF from Boston to Hawaii... erm.... I think it was three days ago.... I don't know.

If you have any boxes that you recently recieved from people, and they fit your gun, put your gun in there. Use peanuts or bubble wrap. Basically do anything to make sure that they won't get damaged. Also, a rigid, or semi-rigid suitcase helps (like CS said).

I hadn't got any trouble at airports yet concerning me carrying nerf guns in my luggage.

(But I was stupid enough to smash a blown up plastic bag around two security guards with Steyr rifles.)

Well, technically you can even bring nerf guns with you in the passenger compartment as long as they don't look real. I read that in a list of brings/don't brings when I was going to Florida. It said " You may bring toy guns into the passenger compartment as long as they do not resemble real guns.

They're still going to see what looks like and feels like a trigger when the item is X-rayed and you will be asked to put it in a checked bag. It will waste a lot of time if you don't just go ahead and do that to begin with.

It seems to vary. Last time I went to Las Vegas, the airport monitors were running constant video clips on what you can and can't do on airplanes (featring Vegas celebrities). A group of knights from Excalibur were told that no weapons could be brought on the plane. Naturally, they had to lose their swords, but they also showed them removing a Super Soaker and (I believe) a Nerf gun. I'm not exactly sure if they were being serious or not, but the message was pretty clear - nothing resembling a weapon on board the plane.

Of course, this was a year and a half ago...perhaps things have mellowed since then, and cooler heads have prevailed.

Just put it with the luggage... why would you want it to be carry on? Theres not much places to shoot it and even at the ground you can lose it.. and on top of that if it is modded it can be quite annoying to the people around you.

Just ask before you check. And put a note on the top of your luggage that says that they are only toys and cannot be made to fire real bullets.

You can check there if you want to. Also, I personally would NEVER take a nerf gun on a carry-on, there's no need to take one with you. I'm just saying, it's techinically allowed, but to save yourself the hassle of going through it, DON'T DO IT.
