I recently did Captain Slug's Big Blast mod and found out something rather interesting:

You can fit 1/2 inch copper pipe into a 1/2 Cpvc coupler, which can THEN fit into a 1/2 inch PVC coupler.
These connections are quite tight and do not need glue or tape.
This barrel turned my big blast into a welt-inducing longrange rifle.

Has anyone else tried this / what do you think?

Yeah, I noticed this about a month ago while I was at my friends house. It's a rather cool, because if your darts are too tight in CPVC, just get some copper: problem solved.

It's not anything new to me, but hopefully it can help newbies, and possibly even more expirienced nerfers.

That's exactly why I experimented with it. Cpvc is too small for my stefans, but the copper fits perfectly.

I did this the other way around i put a 1/2" CPVC pipe into a 1/2" copper coupler. It worked great for my LBB.

Copper coupler?

For coupling lengths of copper pipe, as it does not have a belled end.

Instead of using a 1/2" PVC Coupler and a 1/2" CPVC Coupler to fit inside of each other...

just save yourself the trouble and buy a 3/4" to 1/2" CPVC Reducer. The 3/4" Coupler size is almost (give or take) the size of a 1/2" PVC Coupler.
