Practically, I can't see the need for a clip larger than 12. Although I haven't timed myself, I would say it takes between 3-6 seconds to switch clips.

But really, I think it'd be easier to just carry another clip in your pocket.

What about attaching a homemade bottom half to the top part of a LS clip? If the parts were carefully assembled and smoothed, would you not be able to turn both of your clips into larger ones instead of combining them and ending up with only one? It seems to me that the tolerances required would not be excessive.
It's coming up with a design that's the problem. I've looked into it, and coming up with a good spring is ahrd enough, let alone plastic sheeting thin enough for homemade mags.

Why? We don't put high-power springs in anything except plunger tubes. Also, for a 24 shot clip, you would need to reinforce the hell out of it. It doesn't seem too practical.
On the other hand, the closest to a 24-round MAGAZINE (please, stop saying "clips") would be taking two 12-round mags and doing this, although it would still be relatively bulky. It's the closest solution that you're going to get, and probably the most effective besides dropping the idea.

A spring long enough for a 24-capacity mag must be quite powerful when fully compacted. It might not break the mag, but you might need shells or something to protect the darts, which would (needless to say) be complicated.
