Would it be possible to make a quad-clip? Like with 24 darts instead of 12? Or maybe a drum or box clip?
Newb: Paintball is better than nerf, I mean common there weaker than hell.

Of course it would be possible to make a quad clip. The most difficult part would be working the spring to cover that distance without jamming. It would also stick out from underneath the ls pretty far, reducing its mobility slightly.

Practically, I can't see the need for a clip larger than 12. Although I haven't timed myself, I would say it takes between 3-6 seconds to switch clips.

24 would also be a pain in the ass to load one-by-one. And there will be spring problems, as noted by shoeshine5. .. and it would be really big.

Take two 12 shot clips, turn them so the open ends are opposite, and tape them together, staggered slightly, so you can still insert the clip.

But really, I think it'd be easier to just carry another clip in your pocket.

As for a drum clip, I have no idea how that would work, but it is an idea.

Edit: Dang, carbon you beat me to that. I was just pushing post and I saw you said that.

Yeah I think 24 would be going overboard. A 12 shot clips seems perfect to me.

The problem with drum clips is that the spring needed would be about 30 inches long, have to be self wound, and would be hard to make. The power it would need to move that distance would cruch the darts. Simply, the spring needed would be to strong and crush darts.

Also, for a 24 shot clip, you would need to reinforce the hell out of it. It doesn't seem too practical.

A Drum Clip would require a constant-tension spring, like those found in all small engine recoils and wind-up clocks. Also, it would be awkward to build, which is why nobody (presumably) so far has built one.

My answer is no. 12-14 is the upper limit that will work without deforming the darts.

What about attaching a homemade bottom half to the top part of a LS clip? If the parts were carefully assembled and smoothed, would you not be able to turn both of your clips into larger ones instead of combining them and ending up with only one? It seems to me that the tolerances required would not be excessive.

It's coming up with a design that's the problem. I've looked into it, and coming up with a good spring is ahrd enough, let alone plastic sheeting thin enough for homemade mags.

Why? We don't put high-power springs in anything except plunger tubes.

On the other hand, the closest to a 24-round MAGAZINE (please, stop saying "clips") would be taking two 12-round mags and doing this, although it would still be relatively bulky. It's the closest solution that you're going to get, and probably the most effective besides dropping the idea.

People call them clips because Nerf does. It's incorrect, but that's what they're sold as and therefore what they're called.

A spring long enough for a 24-capacity mag must be quite powerful when fully compacted. It might not break the mag, but you might need shells or something to protect the darts, which would (needless to say) be complicated.

A 24 round clip would need reinforcement for the same reason a 12 round clip would, because it would so damn long, and easily breakable, not because the spring would be too strong.
