I need a couple of opnions of those who have had experience with one or the other. For those who have no idea what I'm talking about a PSP and a GP2X are handheld video game systems, the PSP was released in Japan, Europe, and also the United States. But the GP2X was only released in Japan but has mostly English Interface.

What is your main purpose? Might sound dumb, but are you going to use it for a lot of games? Movies? Music?

Well from what I've read from reviews the Gp2x can go on the internet, watch movies, play music. I have an Ipod Video, so it will mostly just be used for gaming or others, and maybe a little music. The problem though is that I have had the real life experience with the PSP and I have to say it's pretty cool, espically with some of the mods you can do to it, but the GP2X I have not, but have heard excellent reviews from it, but I have also heard good reviews from the PSP. But the rumors I have heard from the PSP make me iffy, is it true that battery life is a little low considering the large screen? And also that it sometimes overheats if played in weather of over 80 degrees? Also I have heard that the screen is a little weak and can't sustain much dropping if ever occured.

~Well, also I've just been informed that the Gp2x does not have it's own games, but can run emulators and other supported games which really changes my opnion more toward the PSP.

If you had to choose, I only have experience with the psp but I don't like most of its games, but I have not experience with the gp2x, so go with the psp. The best way though is to save 50$ and get a nintendo ds.

You are a retard, macman. I hate to tell you, but just because something is not released in America does not mean it is generic. Your other statements are a load of biased bullshit. And yes, it probably will last at least as long as, or most likely, longer, than the PSP.

But the rumors I have heard from the PSP make me iffy, is it true that battery life is a little low considering the large screen? And also that it sometimes overheats if played in weather of over 80 degrees? Also I have heard that the screen is a little weak and can't sustain much dropping if ever occured.

I get about 3-4 hours of battery life on my PSP. Yesterday and today, Illinois has had 80+ degree weather, and I have not had any overheating issues. It is true, though, that the screen is pretty weak.

The best analogy I can make is that portable video game systems are just like cars: the old ones could sustain a hell of a lot of damage and lasted a lot longer than the newer ones do. I still have my old Game Boy color: and it still works as well as it did when I got it.

They just don't make them like they used to. </old fart sayings>

In reality, though, I would get a PSP just for the fact about the games. I would rather buy real games than emulated ones, especially since you can get PSP games here, as opposed to waiting for them to arrive from Japan. Plus, game stores (Eb games, Gamestop etc.), as much as they rip you off, will actually take PSP games back for credit. I doubt they will take games for this GP2X. I do like things with easily replaceable batteries, though. (Like the old Game Boys)

Thanks Commander Erik, it's nice to see people who know much about foreign systems, but what I have put to conclusion is that the GP2X is a Multimedia system that plays a few games on the side, it's basically and oversized Ipod that can emulate games 1000x better, the GP2X has no restriction within the system and the SD memory cards are a little cheaper then the PSP. PSP is a system designed mostly to run movies/ higher quality games, therefore making it more of a gaming system. They are both the basic same system, both run well FPS, bad side of the PSP though is it can't run many emulated games full screen it has to resize them, while you can just as easily make homemade games with the GP2X, also it does have some restrictions of it's modding, real good side of the GP2X is that they update it's firmwire which is a + in my book. I like both systems just as equal so it's going to be a hard decision espically since they are basically the same. Also does anyone know if you can run Stepmania on a PSP?

I have owned a White PSP for almost a year and a half now and i must say that it is one of the best decisions i have ever made, I can put all of my music on it, the original games for it are excellent... although most seem lacking, video and pics are simple... and if you really want to play some ROMs on your PSP all you need to do is find a hack for your current system version... overall i really don't know that much about the Gp2x... and they are basically the same except for a few details so it would boil down to the prices...

I heard that they were coming out with a second version of the PSP with better graphics and two analog sticks. I don't know if it's true, but if it was, I would wait for the new one.

EDIT: Well, it seems I'm correct. http://kotaku.com/ga...ming-242845.php

Well, I'm deciding to go with the GP2X for now, a possible PSP will most likely be in the future though, and the PSP2 is probally going to be 200+.

Huh. Wow. That psp2 looks amazing. 8gb flash memory would be nice... Along with touch screen. I hope the ram is better on the internet. Last time they only had 6 meg's. I could rarely check my email.

I think the touch screen would be pretty stupid, because you'd be better off getting a DS, which Ophra system is coming out on June 2, which is pretty soon. What it is, is a game cartidge that takes advantage of the Wifi and runs a Internet Explorer type internet of it and I believe the internet is free or fairly cheap around like 50 bucks a year or so.
