Alright, the Horsemen are planning to throw a big war at our local park sometime in June. We're looking at a few weekends, but right now the two options are june 9th and june 30th. We need to get a handle on who can make it and when. We'd like to get a big chunk of the LCM along with anyone else who might be able to make the trek.

We hold this war once a year, and it has been a huge success so far. So if you're interested post here and let us know.

Updated 6/21/07

The date has been set for June 30 and the roster is complete. It's time to give you guys an idea of what you're in for. READ ALL OF THESE!! YOUR IGNORANCE WILL NOT BE AN EXCUSE!!

EQUIPMENT

Alright, the first of several updates pertains to what exactly you will need, and how you should prepare for this nerf war. As those of you who have been there before well know, these wars are notoriously brutal on the nerfer and his equipment, so don't take any of these suggestions for granted.

What you need:

1. WATER, and lots of it. It's gonna be hot, and we don't stop for long. People WILL get dehydrated. I recomend talking to the people you're coming with and going in together to fill a small cooler with plenty of bottled water. A gallon a piece is a rough estimate of what you should bring.

2. FOOD There will be a lunch break but you WILL NOT be leaving the park. There will be no pizza delivery, there are no Roy Rogers, and you cannot go out to find these things. Bring a bagged lunch. I'm gonna recommend something simple with some carbs. A bagel sandwich or two seems to have been the consensus in past years. Don't eat something that will sit too heavy in your stomach because lunch will not be lengthy and you will be pushed as soon as it is over.

3. WEAPONS. Obviously, but what weapons should you bring? Well we don't allow any manner of homemade weapons. In fact, we're gonna stick with our original ruling that no weapon not using an original nerf air chamber or tank will be allowed (should not be a big deal with any of the guys coming). Other than that you can bring whatever you like, but lemme make some suggestions. If your main weapon is a airjet...bring a backup springer, guns break and there are no time outs for weapon issues in this war. You also WILL NEED A SINGLE SHOT SPRINGER PISTOL! We're gonna have at least one pistol round and while I had originally held out that air pistols were fine, famine pointed out that some douche bag would likely argue that a 1500 is a pistol. Well that hypothetical Douche-bag has ruined it for you all. So at least one springer pistol each. Bring it or sit out.

4. AMMO. No one will be providing your ammo so make sure you have a supply. You will need at least 75 darts a piece (at least) as we move fairly quickly between rounds and switch venues often. Darts will be lost, so be prepared. Now this part is aimed particularly at the Z80 boys, though everyone should listen up, if your darts are poor, horrible, or straight up unfireable you will be turned upside down and shaken hard at the end of each round. If we can't fire your shitty ammo don't expect to hold on to anybody else's.

5. SHOES. You will be on your feet ALL day. We have no breaks, a short lunch, and we'll be roaming all over this massive park. If your footwear is not extremely comfortable you will hate yourself and no one will care. No one is gonna carry you, and no one is gonna wait for you.

6. EYE WEAR Anyone under the age of 18 is required to wear some sort of fucking eye protection. Sunglasses are the obvious choice, but who knows, maybe someone wants to get funky. I know the vast majority of us are over the age, but I'd still recomend sunglasses. It is going to be the end of June and there is not a lot of shade in this park.

7. MISC SUNTAN LOTION (no shade, bring it), an extra shirt to sweat through (Hersch, bring 5), bug repellent, a small repair kit to fix a slightly busted gun, and toilet paper (the bathrooms are 15 minutes walking distance one way from most of the areas we'll be nerfing in, and the longest we stop between wars is 5-10. If you are gone you are missing the round. The best idea is to watch what you eat, but if you have to take a squat you should be prepared to do it in the woods. I don't think we've ever encountered this problem before, but that doesn't mean we won't). These are not only all good ideas, they are things you most certainly will miss if you don't have them.

Finally, after all those suggestions I'm gonna give you one to the contrary. Bring what you need, but NOTHING YOU CAN'T CARRY! You will be carrying everything a good distance from the parking lot and lugging it from area to area between rounds. Coordinate with your friends, bring a backpack, and only the guns you need.

This war is a bitch. I cannot over emphasize that it is like no otherwar you've been to before. You will nerf harder and more intensely than you ever have before, that's a promise. Most of you guys are very familiar with the validity of this statement but for those of you who haven't been before ask around. This is gonna be a blast, and we make sure it is, but you will seriously regret taking any of the above suggestions less than 100% seriously.

More to come, but for now I'd like to see if anyone else who's been before has any suggestions for what to pack.

RULES

I'm not going to review the basic guidelines that govern each and every nerf war, because if you don't have a solid grasp on them already you aren't invited. What I will go over briefly are the specific and peculiar rules that govern Deal. This will not include the specialty rules for our unique round formats (these will be discussed as we explain each type of round) but instead the standards that will be enforced throughout the day unless otherwise stated in the rules of our special rounds.

Each war has it's own peculiarities, but here are the basics:
1: Gun hits always count unless that gun is a manta-ray (I generally prefer to only count gun hits when the weapon is blocking your body, but this ruling is in the interest of speeding up play for those not used to deal)

2: After being hit, a player has the option to either count-in where they were hit or behind cover of their teammates. The last 5-seconds must be counted out in a loud, paced voice. It is the opposition's responsibility to clear the immediate area in which a player is counting in and allow them to return to play unmolested.

3: Any hit disputes that cannot be mediated quickly (within 20 seconds) go in favor of the person being shot (i.e. the hit does not count). If this rule is abused the person abusing it will be forced to take ALL shots called on him without dispute. We don't foresee this being a problem, it's just a precaution.

4: After each round you must relinquish darts made by another nerfer if that person requests them.

5: All players must stay within the play area, on the grass, and between the walkways while they are active in a round (there are two play areas that are exceptions to this rule, and they will be explained when we come to them)

6: If a round goes 45 minutes those of us organizing the war will determine if sudden death is warranted. When sudden death is announced play is momentarily stopped and the hit points of all active nerfers are reduced to 1.

7: NO ROUND WILL BE OTHERWISE CALLED SHORT OR PAUSED

8: The only exception is in the case of bystanders. If anyone not participating in the war is withing firing distance play must pause in that area until the person is clear of fire. Any shots fired during that pause may be counted as hits to the person who fired them.

9: We have veto power over everything. There will be no disputing a choice we make during the course of the war unless it is in the form of a BRIEF and calm discussion. We will take all such suggestions under serious considerations, but our decisions will be final.

Most of these rules NEVER come into play. Keep in mind, most of the people attending this war are our friends of many years and understand that we are complete blow-hards. They are just in place so that we have all our bases covered and can handle any such problems in a quick manner without negatively effecting the pace or mood of the war.

We may have some additions later but that's all that comes to mind at the moment. It's only a week away and I'm really fucking excited. This is gonna be a ton of fun and I can't wait to see everybody at this park that we really enjoy. The updates are gonna come pretty steady now so keep reading and let us know if we've failed to address any questions or issues you may have.

ROUND SCHEDULE

We gave you all basice, now I just wanna preview how this war is gonna be laid out. The format for this information is "Round Number: Location: War Type: Hit format". Alright, this will give you a quick idea of how this thing will flow. We may or may not follow up with more details concerning our specialty wars. If we don't, you'll just have to wait for Saturday ho-bags.

1: Undiscovered Country: Deathmatch: 4/20

2: The Grove: Manage-Quatre (read, 4 team deathmatch): 5/20

3: The Grove: Deathmatch: 4/20

4: Purgatory: Gunslinger Heaven (this is a special pistol war that past attendees should recognize): 2/20 (special)

--Lunch--

5: Resurrection Forest : Deathmatch : 4/20

6: Resurrection Forest: Nerf Quake (New format that will be pending nerfer interest): 4/20

7: The Island: Take Many Prisoners (specialty war): 3/15

8: If we actually are still on our feet for an eighth round we will take a vote to decide the location of a final deathmatch.

Eat Me.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Updated 7/27

SPECIALTY WARS

Round #2: Manage-Quatre

- This is simple. 4 teams in a death match in the most open, and yet most dynamic field on the deal line-up.

Round #4: Gunslinger Heaven

- Before this war each nerfer will choose a partner and we will most likely break into two even battles, each with 6 2 man teams. You may only use a single springer single-shot pistol in this war. Each player begins with 2 hitpoints. When a player is hit for the first time he will take a flag out of his pocket and wear it somewhere visible on his person. This nerfer is now in Purgatory, and another hit sends him to hell (ie game over). However, if a nerfer in purgatory succeeds in sending another player to hell that player may remove the flag from his person (leave purgatory) and regain one hitpoint. Game ends when one team is left.

Round #6: Nerf Quake

- This war takes place in a large wooded area with 2 intersecting paths that form a large cross. As in ALL deal rounds players are forbidden from moving into the woods, or even the brush. If you are in the brush you are considered out of play and any hits you score will not be counted. It's easy, stay on the paths and in the clearings. Anyway, there are two teams and standard deathmatch rules apply. The wrinkle is in starting location and weaponry. The two teams will each be split in two and set on opposite sides of the cross where the paths go into the open. Nerfers are not to leave these paths and exit the forest at any time during this war. Each player will begin with a single pistol and will place their main weapon in a box on the opposite side of the cross. No one is permitted to use a weapon that is not theirs, doing so will result in ejection from the round. If a nerfer wants his primary weapon, he can fight his way through and grab it.

Now this war has been a point of contention between famine and I. I think it may be a little too complicated for its own good, but I don't mind cause I'm hoping this will just turn into a pistol war, which will be a lot of fun on the crouded forest paths.

Round #7: Take Many Prisoners

- Well I'm just not gonna say much about this one. I will tell you two things. One, there will be hostages, and Two, it is WAY too complicated. It's gonna rock your world.

That's it, Suck it dry.

DIRECTIONS (copied from famine's post on page 10)

Meeting Place: The Deal Test Site
Meeting Time: 10am sharp, expect the first 20 minutes to be spent lugging your crap from the cars to the play area. Round #1 kicks off no later than 10:30am.

General Directions:

-Take the Garden State Parkway to Exit #105 - Eatontown / Rt 36 East
-Follow signs for Rt 36 East - Long Branch.
-Make an immediate Right at the 1st Traffic Light onto Hope Rd.
-Take Hope Rd. for less than 1/2 mile, merge Right onto the ramp for Rt. 18 South
-Take Rt. 18 South for approximately 2 miles to Exit #12A - W Park Ave / OAKHURST
-Merge on to W. Park Ave heading East, continue for approximately 2 miles
-At the 4th Traffic Light turn Right onto Whalepond Rd.
-Take Whalepond Rd. for 1 mile and turn Right into the 3rd entrance for the park
-There should be a parking lot immediately on your right.
-If you come to a traffic light you've gone too far, turn around and then make a left into the first entrance you see.

I'll tell you right now that alot of people turn into the wrong parking lot when trying to get to this park. It's the third entrance and the parking lot should be immediately on your right. Another hint: If you don't see any of the Horsemen, you're in the wrong spot. I'll be PM'ing my Cell # to Shindig, Hersh, Groove, and possibly z80.

As of now, my schedule is open for either, but I doubt I'd be participating. I might get a few rounds in though.

This will be at Tyndall, right?

Like I mentioned in your previous thread, I'm definitely looking to attend this year. From where I stand right now June 9th would work best for me.

There are several ground rules we should prolly lay out from the begining. If you've been to any of the deal wars in the past you are likely familiar with these rules.

Rule #1. If you are not planning on nerfing each and every round, don't come. If something happens in the course of the war that makes you unable to play a few rounds we don't get our panties in a bundle, but if you come planning on sitting around we will not tolerate it.

Rule #2. If you have not attended a Deal war in the past you need to let us know you wanna come before attending, and you cannot bring guests without us giving you the go ahead.

These rules may seem dick, but they are neccessary. We don't fuck around at these wars, and we don't put up with bullshit of any kind. Ask anyone who's been before, this is a very good thing. This is not to say that anyone can't come to this war. We just need an advance roster, and we need to know you before you can come out. We have found a need to control attendance. We pre-plan each battle, and make all teams in advance of the war. This makes things run much more smoothly and it assures that we can take full advantage of the venue.

Now, that said, we're looking to get at least 18 people to this war, so PLEASE let us know if you want to come. It's unlikely we'll turn anyone away, we just need to know who's coming in advance.

Since I was injured 'in the name of the game'(if you will) and I can't say for sure one way or the other if I can in fact play every round, can I get a pass on rule one?

Dude, isn't your leg in a fucking cast or some such nonsense? Seriously though, Vacc has a point - if you're not up to 100% you may want to skip on this one. The park is pretty big and we tend to keep moving from one area to the next every other round or so, there really aren't any benches or tables to rest at. If you're not playing every round you're just going to wind up becoming someone's mule which I can't imagine is gonna aid your recovery much.

See how you're doing as it gets closer but don't count on getting a 'pass'. Getting injured 'In the name of the game' just means you were doing something wrong, stupid, or with Howard which is wrong and stupid.

Oh yeah, two or three points for anyone planning on coming:
1) Brown Bag Lunch - It just works out better and I never approved of eating Clams Casino during a Nerf War to start with.
2) Bring what you Need - As mentioned above we're on the move a lot so make sure you pack any supplies/darts/backup guns/weird medications you need into an easy to carry backpack or something. If you leave anything in your car consider it inaccessible for the remainder of the war.
3) Water - You're gonna need around a gallon per person. I shit you not. Phil didn't believe me and got dehydrated and almost passed out one year. No, I'm not joking. Yes, really, a gallon.

I can speak from experience, that this was by far one of my favorite wars that I have ever attended (Top 3 if not Top 5). It is NOT for the weak, faint of heart, or those who are nursing, pregnant, or may become pregnant.

I am looking forward to this like you have no idea. It takes my nerfing to a whole new level. The Horsemen have a way about them that makes this happen.

This war is like a training session at Gym Jones. For those unfamiliar with it, its claim to fame is where the actors from 300 trained to get in ridiculous shape. Basically, you have to write an essay to them as to why you are a bad ass, and then they decide to let you in. If you make the cut, you will probably regret it.

Check out the site. Their setting is like a dungeon and their training is incredible. Anyone who goes there can sure kick the shit out of any Marine/Ranger from that other thread.

June 30th isn't a bad date and I would like to see OMC there. Another advantage of it is that it would give those of us going to DCNO a two week break between wars, as opposed to stacking them one weekend after the other. Again, I don't mind either way which date this is but since no one has said the 30th doesn't work for them, I would like to see the war on that date for OMC and because it might evenly distribute our events through June/July.

EDIT: I WAS THINKING WE MIGHT ALSO BE ABLE TO SNEAK IN AN EVENT IN HUNTERDON (IF DARK SHRIMP WANTS) AROUND 2 JUNE BUT THAT WOULD BE EASIEST IF THIS EVENT (DEAL) WAS HELD ON 30 JUNE. I'D LIKE TO SEE US SPREAD OUR EVENTS OUT ONLY BECAUSE IT MIGHT HELP OUR TURNOUT; I'M NOT SURE HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN GET OFF CONSECUTIVE WEEKENDS IN SUMMER IN NEW JERSEY OR AROUND IT.

My leg is in a brace. While I can't run, I can walk relatively fast with no risk of further injury, but it does, however, tire me out more than walking normally would.

If it's the 30th, I will for sure be out of the brace though. I probably wouldn't be comfortable running, but, regardless of the brace situation, I can move around a lot.

I was running to take a piss to finish a round up (we had paused). I guess I was being careless, because I tripped and dislocated my kneecap.

I'm attending the LCM Summer Tune-Up this weekend, so, let's see how I do then, and then come up with a better answer. Sound good?

Mantis - We'd love to have you there and don't worry about even teams, we always manage to keep things pretty well balanced.

Rambo - See, this is where we Horsemen get such a bad rap. I tried to be nice, I really did, but it didn't work. I think I need to extend OMC's '300' analogy a little further here: </startanalogy>
In many ways Deal Park is like the Hot Gates; it's hot, full of sweaty guys, and the only reason it seems so sweet is because you're imagining heavy metal music playing in the background while you fight.
Now let's say that makes us the Spartans, we're there to kick ass and make overdramatic speeches in a forced accent. Everything's going well and then you show up ready to play; your guns are all modded out, your aim is perfect, and you're enthusiastic as all hell but unfortunately your leg is gimp and you can't be counted on to chase down that one fucker who just shot your last teammate in the back. That makes you Ephialtes my friend which means I just can't use you. You could come and fetch water or scavenge darts for the real Spartans but you'd really be better off just throwing yourself over the nearest rocky cliff. </endanalogy>

So it sounds like the 30th is the day to do this on. Consider it set in stone.

And if Rambo shows up with any Persians I'm just gonna call Homeland Security and have their asses shipped to Gitmo. Tom Ridge ftw.

Chill out. We'll see you on the 19th and we can assess how you're doing then. However, if you are not 100% capable of competing in every battle come june 30 we can't use you. We're not trying to be dicks, we just count our numbers and count on every one to make this thing go smoothly. If you are ready for it than we'll talk. If you're not, we'll be doing the same thing next year. I don't want to make it sound like you're going to live or die based on attending this thing (It's a fucking nerf war), but we take it seriously and we don't compromise when it comes to this. My appologies.

Now no more drama. Hersch, that's one hell of an endorsement. Matt and mantis, see what you can do about some of the other LCM. A twin here or there, maybe a little Andy.

I can't believe I'm going to do this, but I'm rallying for Rambo. Even if he's a cripple, I still think he should be there? Why, you may ask yourself? Well, someone has to document my awesomeness. I can't really keep up my "tough guy" reputation without proof. Word of mouth only travels so far. So if he's willing to photo/video if he is in fact unable to play, I'm all for it. That should not affect your months of planning and preparation.

I'm supposed to be somewhere for an awards ceremony sometime between the 22nd-30th of June, they haven't given me a defininte date yet, so we'll see how that pans out. I'll more than likely be able to make the 30th, but I'll keep you posted.

Fuck analogies. Either tell me I'm welcome to come, or tell me I'm not welcome. It doesn't matter either way, I'd just like a straight answer.

VACC

Heh, the fuck analogies bit was just a joke. I mean, yeah, I hate analogies, but I'm not going to be pissed either way, I'd just like to know. But, I can for sure film if I'm there, and I always bring free drinks  .

June 30th sounds good to me. It gives me enough time to take off of work and make enough ammo. I will bring a large water cooler if any one is interested. See you all on Saturday.

I have never been to a war before but I have 2-3 friends that would like to come also. Is this a little too hardcore for a first war? We aren't gimps or anything but I don't want us to be the laughing stock of the day.
