We have a problem, here. With a gun. A gun that is proclaimed to be good, but I am beginning to have my doubts. The Crossbow.

Okay, I just got one. It is shattered (and yes, I bought it knowingly broken). The things plunger head is warped, its plunger shaft is broken in two, and the casing needs to be reinforced. What this is is not as much of a mod, but something that needs to be said. We have pushed and improved the power of the Crossbow to the point to where we need to improve the basics. The trigger catch, the plunger system, the casing, all of it needs to be strengthend so we can add the power we want. It is said it is a great gun, but to make it as such, is it worth all of that? We are making it into a monstrisity, more metal than plastic. What have we done? We've killed it.

In this case, despite my griping, I am going to do a good deal of that above. I am going to push this gun to the limit, beyond the modded Crossbow, to the point where it becomes something else. So, any previous ideas on reinforcment are welcomed. I am going to look into all that is not done, so if any of that is tried and true, save me the time and money and tell.

Eh, I'm going to disagree with you and say that we haven't "killed it" (avoiding the argument about how a Nerf gun never really was 'alive' in the first place, nevertheless I get your point).

If you look at the gradual evolution of any Crossbow modifications, you'll notice the increased interest in wanting more power in such an already very powerful weapon. Killing it, well - I don't think we've killed it, people are taking it to the next level today, a step up from the previous mod, if you will. Take Rawray's Xbow for instance - it's reinforced, not to the point of completely blowing up but hey, it does what it's supposed to, and that's be accurate, fast, and be able to shoot 75+ feet flat (no range inflation there). I wouldn't say an integration like Evil's 'Daemon' are considered a Crossbow, I think it's much more than that: needless to say it's in a Crossbow shell, it well...just doesn't have any of the internals. That's not killing a Crossbow, he's totally inventing something new VIA using the shell of a Crossbow. I guess it's up to you to discern whether or not it's worth it in the end, but I think from Spoon's good old fashioned "barrel relocation mod" for the Crossbow, you have to admit that we certainly have come a long, long way. Making an "uber-xbow" that's capable of shooting 3 times in every direction though, I must admit is pretty fuckin' rediculous. Adding an extra gun to it (my 'Guru') or integrating a valve and pump to the bottom of it (Howard's 'Pamela') certainly add a fun mixture to the battle scene in the sense that it's something different and alters the ergonomics of the gun. Hell, if nothing else, it's fun as shit. If Nerf didn't keep changing...why would you want to play it?

I'm ranting. I'll stop.

Check out Ray's link I mentioned earlier for reinforcement tips. Reason I think I blabbered so much is because I'm rebuilding my Crossbow, too.
